She led the team in her fresh-man year (2010-11) with 401 points and again in her sophomore year (2011-12) with 529 points. Kalu scored her 1,000th point in a 55-70 loss to Mis-sissippi State University on November 28, 2012. Kalu’s junior season was interrupted by an injury late in December. She concluded the shortened year with 161 points. Kalu topped her fourth year at SSU with 516 total points, av-eraging 16.1 a game. She played in 32 games, starting in 23. He was a four-year letter-man and member of the 1987 Voorhees Men’s Basketball EAIC Championship team. Since coming to Savannah State, Baker has gradually improved the women’s basketball program. In the 2013-14 season, SSU went 19-14 overall, 10-6 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), and 10-2 in Tiger Are-na; all records were the best in the program’s Division I era (since 2002-03). The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) enters its 45th year of operation heading into the 2014-15 academic school year. The MEAC is made up of 13 outstanding historically black institutions across the At-lantic coastline: Bethune-Cookman University, Coppin State University, Delaware State University, Florida A&M University, Hampton University, Howard University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State University, Norfolk State University, North Carolina A&T State University, North Carolina Central University, Savannah State University and South Carolina State University.

HISTORY IN BRIEFIn 1969, a bold ad hoc group of innovators long associated with intercolle-giate athletics met in Durham, N.C., to discuss the feasibility of organizing a new conference. Dissected from these discussions, a steering and plan-ning committee was formed to fully investigate the idea, present a detailed report with recommendations to interested collegiate institutions, and then construct a workshop to outline proposals. After adopting a program, seven institutions (Delaware State College, Howard University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State University, North Carolina A&T State University, North Carolina Central University and South Carolina State College) agreed to become the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Its major objective was to establish, organize and supervise an intercollegiate athletic program among a compact group of educational institutions of highacademic standards and with a sound philosophy of co- curricular activities. The conference agreed to seek Division I status for its sports.
