ADVISOR INFORMATION CHANGES

If the organizational advisor for your club will change for the coming 4-H year, we need to know as soon as possible. It is also important that if an organizational advisor is leaving a club, that the club is made aware and another volunteer assumes that position. If a club is not going to re-organize for next year, it is critical that all members and volunteers are made aware as soon as possible, so that they may find another club with which to join. Please let Alison know of these changes, 376-7431 or [email protected].

Ohio State Fair Steer Identification for 2015 The OSF has adopted new protocols for identifying mar-ket beef animals. Protocols include the use of an electronic identification (EID) ear tag and a DNA sample for Junior Market Beef show. DNA collection will be in the form of a hair sample that MUST be submitted to the Ohio State Fair by January 15, 2015 to meet the ownership deadlines. DNA hair samples are to be submitted in official OSF sample kits along with the recording of the 15 digit EID tag number. Any market beef animal that is expected to be shown at the Ohio State Fair that has a pre-existing EID tag from BEST shows or an RFID tag, will not need to have an additional EID tag. For example, if the calf was purchased from a breeder that al-ready included a 15-digit RFID tag in the animal, or if the animal has been to an OCA BEST show where an EID tag was placed in its ear, a new tag is not needed. The animal’s existing 15-digit identification number will also serve as the animal’s Ohio State Fair identification number. Exhibitors can obtain DNA sample collection instructions and kits including an EID tag (if animal does not already have one) by contacting Stacy French (614-644-4049 or [email protected]). Exhibitors who have questions, who would like additional information and all who want to show at the 2015 Ohio State Fair should contact Stacey French at the Ohio State Fair by calling 614-644-4049 or by emailing at [email protected] and request an official OSF identification kit. These will be sent directly to exhibitors who request them from the Ohio State Fair.
