If additional parking space is required to meet the homeowner’s needs, the homeowner must contact the Architectural Committee Holly Tree Plantation and submit a written request for this improvement along with plat plan, design, type or material and location and other information that may be required by the Architectural Committee. Approval must be given in writing by the Architectural Committee prior to beginning construction.

4. Detached structures, including, but not limited to sheds and utility buildings.

Also, please remember that all improvements, including fences, walls, swimming pools and other structures, must be approved by the Architectural Committee. Also, any alterations and addi-tions, including color schemes and materials (which would include any roofing), must be submitted to the Architectural Committee for approval. Lastly, no living trees greater than ten (10) inches in di-ameter at four feet from ground level may be cut without obtaining the approval of the Architectural Committee except such trees as shall be growing within twenty (20) feet of the radius of any building located on the Real Property. SHOULD YOU BE PLANNING ANY CHANGES, ALTERATIONS, ADDITIONS TO YOUR PROPERTY, PLEASE REVIEW YOUR COPY OF THE HOLLY TREE PLANTATION COVE-NANTS TO SEE IF THERE ARE REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO BEGINNING CONSTRUCTION, GRADING, ETC. We want to address violations in order to keep our subdivision attractive and improve the values of all our properties, and ask for everyone’s cooperation as to eliminating the violations and improving our subdivision. We want to address all violations in a reasonable manner and it will be very helpful if everyone will try to eliminate as many violations as possible and to strive to keep such violations from happening. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and assistance with the above.

SOS - SAVE OUR STREETS

Holly Tree has no provision for street sweeping as is common in many cities; our residents are our only line of defense against street degradation. We can easily do our own street / gutter maintenance; just a few minutes of gutter dirt removal followed by a dose of Roundup (or similar weed killer) will produce long-lasting results.

By doing so, we present a more pleasing picture both to ourselves and to prospective home-owners as they drive around looking at houses. All that is required is to sweep dirt out of the gutter; where there is no dirt for weeds to flourish and develop roots that will ruin the asphalt — leaving yet another spot for weeds to grow.

Just as we need to clear leaves from our yards, please be responsible for clearing your gutters of those pesky weeds.

RECIPE for FALL - - - PUMPKIN DIP

INGREDIENTS

6 oz tub whipped cream/cool whip (thawed) 1- 5oz box vanilla pudding 1- 15 oz can pumpkin 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice

DIRECTIONS

Mix all together. This is best served cold with apple slices, chocolate or regular graham crackers, and gingersnaps. You can also hollow out a small pumpkin and serve in it. Kids love this! Refrigerate any remaining dip. ENJOY!!

DO YOU RECOGNIZE THIS HOLLY TREE ENTRANCE?

THINGS YOUR BURGLAR WON'T TELL YOU:

1. Of course I look familiar. I was here just last week cleaning your carpets, painting your shutters, or delivering your new refrigerator; and thanks for letting me use the bathroom when I was working in your yard. While I was in there, I unlatched the back window to make my return a little easier. 2. Yes, I really do look for newspapers piled up on the driveway, and I might leave a pizza flyer in your front door to see how long it takes you to remove it. 3. If it snows while you're out of town, you can help me by not getting a neighbor to create car and foot tracks into the house. Virgin drifts in the driveway are a dead giveaway. 4. If decorative glass is part of your front entrance, and your security company has installed the control pad where I can see if it is set, thanks for making my entry easy. A good security company alarms the window over the sink and the windows on the second floor, which often let me into the master bedroom-and your jewelry.

5. It's raining, you're fumbling with your umbrella, and you forget to lock your door - - understandable. But understand this: I don't take a day off because of bad weather. 6. I always knock first. If you answer, I'll ask for directions or offer to clean your gutters. (Don't take me up on it.) 7. Do you really think I won't look in your sock drawer? I always check dresser drawers, the bedside table, and the medicine cabinet. Here's a helpful hint: I almost never go into kids' rooms. 8. You're right; I won't have enough time to break into that safe where you keep your valuables. But if it's not bolted down, I'll take it with me. 9. A loud TV or radio can be a better deterrent than the best alarm system. If you're reluctant to leave your TV on while you're out of town, you can buy a $35 device that works on a timer and simulates the flickering glow of a real television. (Find it at http://faketv.com

STREETLIGHTS / ENTRANCELIGHTS REPORT

Holly Tree is Laurens Electric largest residential customer, and our 100 streetlights, together with lights for our ten entrances, make up a significant power draw. Each of these lights has an iden-tifying tag that is used to guide repairs and/or replacement as necessary, and homeowners are asked to contact the appropriate Committee at [email protected] or [email protected], if and when one or more of these lights needs attention. The ID tag number of the light can speed up the needed action by Laurens Electric.

Leaf/Trash Burning in Holly Tree Per Article 2.1 of our covenants, the burning of trash, leaves, clippings or other debris is not permitted. From time to time, some of our residents either forget this covenant or are not aware of it. Therefore, look on this as a friendly reminder. The covenant was put it in place for the safety of the residents. Holly Tree is very wooded and surrounds a lovely golf course. Fires can get out of control very quickly and could lead to a significant amount of damage. This is especially a concern of the HOA as a result of the drought and the recent fire along Hwy I-385. Please contact your garbage hauler to arrange leaf and yard waste pick up. Also, please note that if you have access to a truck, yard waste can still be dumped for free by a resident at the Enoree Landfill on Ander-son Ridge Road.

BEAUTIFICATION REPORT: Nature’s Mulch

Got leaves? If you have trees, or if your neighbor has trees, then you have leaves. Many folks regard them as a nuisance. Gathering leaves and dealing with their disposal is the very definition of nuisance work. Hopefully, after reading further, you will see the benefits of keeping your leaves and using them as a cost-effective way to mulch your yard. The solution to the mounds of leaves that cover your yard is to shred them and either pile them up for fu-ture use or spread them out immediately. The two best methods for shredding leaves are to use a leaf shred-der specifically designed for that purpose or to use a lawn mover that collects the leaves in a hopper. Lawn mowers that bag ground-up leaves offer one way to speed up the decomposition process. The decomposing leaves are a wonderful source of nutrients for your soil. You may not want to use shredded leaves for mulch for every aspect of landscaping. However, shredded leaves are wonderful mulch for natural areas and will continue to improve the soil quality. For formal areas and foundation plantings, you may want to spread a layer of decorative mulch on top of the shredded leaves. Your areas look finished while helping to improve the soil and cut down on the cost of several loads of the expensive mulch. Shredded leaves are nature’s free mulch and will significantly cut down on your yard work and the expense of hauling the leaves away.
