Belt-drive Systems

General Information

Kendrion LINNIG belt-drive systemsA look under the engine hood of your bus or coach will reveal several Kendrion LINNIG components in the areas of engine cooling, air conditioning and belt management. For decades, the long-established company - headquartered in Markdorf near Lake Constance - has been the brand name for intelligent system

solutions in drive technology. Thanks to innovative research and development, we respond swiftly to the latest trends in the com-mercial vehicle industry and are a proven reliable partner to our customers.

From the crankshaft to the auxiliary units – Kendrion ensures smooth running! Many years of experience have shown that diesel engines run un-evenly - especially in the lower speed range - causing high levels of vibration at the crankshaft. These vibrations are transmitted via the drive belts to the auxiliary units, such as the A/C compressor and the fan drive. The consequences hereof are noise emissi-ons, wear and fastening problems as well as increased energy

consumption. This is where Kendrion LINNIG‘s drive-belt system comes in: It provides for smooth-running in the engine compart-ment, while increasing the service life of the auxiliary units and improving the energy balance. Advantages that will continue to play a decisive role in the future.

More stringent exhaust emission standards demand belt management – We have the solution!Belt management will be facing major challenges in a variety of applications. The vibration problem is further intensified through modified combustion processes, higher torques and power out-puts, the reduction of centrifugal masses, as well as through in-creasingly stringent emissions standards. The engines run with increased injection pressure and can thus tend to greater irre-gularities. The use of a dual-mass flywheel is often not sufficient here. Increased vibration behavior still occurs, possibly leading to

the above mentioned wear and noise problems as well as increa-sed energy consumption.

Not, however, with Kendrion Linnig products. State-of-the-art technology provides for quiet running in the engine compartment. By deploying deflection and tension rollers, with or without dam-ping function, as well as the torsional vibration damper, belt-ma-nagement systems are tailored to customer requirements.

A system matching your engine compartment is readily available. Feel free to contact us!

The advantages are obviousThe benefi ts that result from this consistent vibration reduction are obvious: Noise is minimized and all transferring components are gone easy on, so that their service life is considerably prolonged.

As the spring system itself does not take up energy, an advantage arises in the energy balance when compared to other damping systems, such as rubber ones, which heat up in operation.

Operation of the Kendrion LINNIG torsional vibration damper:

Kendrion LINNIG‘s torsional vibration damper, which operates on the basis of permanent-magnet technology, can signifi cantly red-uce drive-train vibrations.

The torsional vibration damper ensures double damping of the crankshaft pulley, based on the following two features:

■ Permanent magnets cause a smooth damping function when transferring low to medium-range torque.

■ Special rubber dampers are used as the stop for full power transfer of maximum torques.

In this manner, Kendrion LINNIG‘s technology meets the demand of ensuring optimal vibration reduction at any speed.eine optima-le Schwingungsreduzierung bei jeder Drehzahl zu gewährleisten.

The fi gure above clearly reveals: Despite signifi cantly initiated oscil-lations, the derived torque is almost constant. The rotational imba-lance of the crankshaft is absorbed.

The characteristic curve can be fl exibly adapted to individual custo-mer requirements, depending on the number and arrangement of the magnets.

This allows for different specialty maneuvers to be enabled at which the high load peaks can be absorbed, such as the start-stop func-tion, engagement of auxiliary units at high drive speeds or when stalling the engine. In this manner, the service life of auxiliary units can be considerably prolonged.

The unique characteristic: Wear-free operationThe decisive unique characteristic is a result of the properties of a permanent-magnet system: Contact-free power or load trans-

mission means wear-free operation, so that Kendrion LINNIG‘s system will not be outdone in terms of service life.

Flexible installation and customer-specific solutions – The optimal system for any applicational caseThanks to its flexible installation, the torsional vibration damper can be used for a variety of arrangements in the engine com-partment: Kendrion LINNIG‘s system can be installed both on the crankshaft as well as in the drive train. The solution is available either as a pure torsional vibration damper for up to three belt levels, or, as additional functionality on an idler with integrated damper. Here, different belt profiles can be used, such as the

classic SPB V-belt or the poly V-belt. The desired characteristics are adapted to the respective application, depending on customer situation. After dimensioning and designing the torsional vibration damper, it is tested in the vehicle in order to check the properties in detail. The required characteristic curve is temperature-inde-pendent, which underlines the reliability of the system.

Ready for a retrofit? No problem!Even when retrofitting existing fleets, Kendrion LINNIG torsional vibration dampers provide a convincing and practical solution, as the installation is very simple: The present pulley package can

be replaced as a complete unit – with the immediate result of quiet-running.

Feel free to contact us! We‘ll gladly provide for smooth-running in your engine compartment!
