Winner of the 1984 Medal of Honor, Frank set school records for

recepons and yards by a ght end during his career. Finishing

with 121 recepons and 1,481 yards, he was a two-me All-Big Ten

honoree, earning the disncon as a junior in 1982 and a senior in

1983, and was named team MVP his nal season. Franks success

extended beyond the eld as he was named an Academic All-Big

Ten selecon and an Academic All-American his junior and senior

seasons and was a Rhodes Scholar nalist. Aer two Super Bowl

tles with the San Francisco 49ers, Frank returned to Ohio Stateand received his doctorate in June, 1992.

each teams third divisional contest of the year,

Minnesota carries a 2-2 division mark and Iowa is

2-1 in the Legends Division.

Breking Down he Leders Division: Ohio State

continues to hold the top spot in the Leaders

Division, carrying a 5-0 Big Ten record and a 3-0

division mark. Wisconsin is second in the standings

at 4-1 in the conference, Penn State is third at 2-2

and Indiana is fourth at 1-3. The Buckeyes, Badgers

and Nittany Lions enter the week having played

three divisional contests thus far, and each will

have two intra-division matchups during the last

three weeks of the regular season. Ohio State has

a bye this weekend, Wisconsin completes the non-

conference portion of its schedule against BYU and

Penn State travels to Minnesota on Saturday.

for the National Football Foundations National Scholar-Athlete Awards and are now finalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy.

Is Been While: With its victory over Purduelast Saturday, Ohio State extended its winningstreak to 21 games, which is the longest active

streak in the nation. It is the longest Big Tenstreak in more than 40 years, when theBuckeyes reeled off 22 consecutive victories

from 1967-69. Ohio States 21-game winningstreak is tied for sixth all-time in conferenceannals with the 1933-36 Minnesota squads. The

1901-03 Michigan teams hold the conferencerecord of 29 consecutive victories. The Buckeyesare one of just two teams in the nation boasting9-0 records and one of only seven squads with

unblemished records. The Buckeyes improvedto 9-0 for the seventh time since 1990.

BCS Trio: Three Big Ten teams appear amongthe top 25 in the latest Bowl ChampionshipSeries (BCS) standings. Ohio State improved to

9-0 on the year to hold steady at No. 4 in thelatest BCS poll. Michigan State knocked offMichigan to move to 8-1 and jumped five spots

to No. 17 in the BCS standings, the Spartansfirst top-20 appearance since ranking No. 17 inthe final BCS poll of the 2011 campaign.

Wisconsin defeated Iowa and stands at 6-2

overall to remain at No. 24 in the BCS rankings.

Division Mchups: Of the four Big Ten match-ups this weekend, two will be divisional games.Michigan hosts Nebraska in a Legends Division

showdown, while Indiana welcomes Illinois in aLeaders Division clash. As part of divisional play,the Big Ten has instituted a tiebreaker to deter-

mine the Big Ten Football Championship Gameparticipants, if necessary. After head-to-headmatchups, the next tiebreaker is records within

the division, which makes winning divisionalgames an important part of the Big Ten titlechase. See Page 11 of this release for the full

tiebreaker.

Bck o he Bowl Scene: Two more Big Ten

teams joined the bowl-eligible ranks followingvictories last Saturday. With its win over Iowalast weekend, Wisconsin reached the six-winmark and secured bowl eligibility for the 25th

time in program history. The Badgers haveadvanced to postseason play in each of the past11 seasons, the longest active streak in the con-

ference, and were the conference representa-tives in the Rose Bowl Game the last threeyears. After its dramatic last-second victory

against Northwestern, Nebraska notched itssixth triumph of the season to become bowl eli-gible. The Huskers are looking to advance to

postseason play for the 50th time in programhistory and the seventh consecutive season.The Badgers and Huskers are the fifth and sixth

Big Ten teams to become bowl eligible, joiningMichigan, Michigan State, Minnesota and OhioState. With five wins, Iowa has a chance to

become bowl eligible on Saturday.

Complee Scholr-Ahlee: The NationalFootball Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of

Fame named 16 recipients of the NFF NationalScholar-Athlete Awards, including four Big Tenhonorees - Iowas James Morris, Michigan

States Max Bullough, Nebraskas Spencer Longand Penn States John Urschel. The Big Tenquartet was selected from a nationwide pool of

171 student-athletes, representing all NCAAdivisions as well as the NAIA. The four Big Tenstudent-athletes are now finalists for the 2013

William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizesan individual as the absolute best scholar-ath-lete in the nation. Two Big Ten standouts have

won the Campbell Trophy - Ohio States Bobby

Hoying in 1995 and Craig Krenzel in 2003.

Trophy Time: In a conference that features 16rivalry trophies, Penn State and Minnesota willcompete for one of the traveling keepsakes this

weekend. The two programs take the field withthe Governors Victory Bell at stake, which wasfirst contested in 1993. The Nittany Lions first

Big Ten game came against the Golden Gopherson Sept. 4, 1993, and the Governors from eachstate instituted the traveling trophy prior to the

debut meeting between the programs.

Geing in on he Ac: Scoring is up throughoutthe Big Ten this season and conference defensiveand special teams units are playing a part in thatsuccess. With two interceptions returned for

touchdown last Saturday, conference defenses andspecial teams have combined for 34 touchdownsthis season, already surpassing last years total of33. Minnesota leads all Big Ten teams with six

non-offensive touchdowns, while Iowa andMichigan State have five defensive or specialteams scores. Nebraska and Northwestern each

have four such touchdowns, followed by Michiganand Ohio State with three each and Illinois,Indiana, Purdue and Wisconsin with one apiece.

2013 Big Ten Foobll Chmpionship GmeThe 2013 Big Ten Football Championship Game will kick o from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis at 8:17 p.m. ET on December 7, 2013.

The winner of the Legends Division will meet the winner of the Leaders Division, with the games victor earning the Big TenChampionship and a chance to play in either the Rose Bowl Game or Bowl Championship Series Naonal Championship Game.

FOX will serve as the ocial broadcast partner of the Big Ten Football Championship Games through 2016, and Lucas Oil Stadiumwill host the tle games through 2015.

The Big Ten will continue to honor its past while recog-nizing its current standouts at the conclusion of the 2013campaign. The Big Tens enhanced football awards pro-gram presents 18 individual trophies in addition to theBig Ten Championship trophy, bearing the names of oneor two former standouts. The distinguished names onthese football awards honor just a small sampling of the

countless student-athletes and coaches who have con-tributed to the conferences rich and storied history.

Seventeen of the honors will be awarded immediatelyfollowing the regular season, including awards for thebest quarterback, running back, receiver, tight end,offensive lineman, defensive lineman, linebacker, defen-sive back, kicker and punter. Each of these individualposition awards features the names of two former stu-dent-athletes.

The Big Ten will also continue to honor the conferencestop coaches, offensive and defensive players and line-men and freshmen with end-of-year trophies. Big Tencoaches have the opportunity to claim two awards.

Media voters will continue to select the Dave McClainCoach of the Year, which has been awarded since 1972,while coaches vote for the Hayes-Schembechler Coachof the Year award. The top offensive player will receivethe Graham-George Offensive Player of the Year award,the best defensive player will be awarded the Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year award and thebest first-year standout will receive the Thompson-Randle El Freshman of the Year award.

The winner of the Big Ten Football Championship Gamewill receive the Amos Alonzo Stagg ChampionshipTrophy, while the most outstanding player in the gamewill be awarded the Grange-Griffin Championship GameMVP award. The conference also created two postcolle-

giate awards - the Ford-Kinnick Leadership Award andthe Dungy-Thompson Humanitarian Award.

Since its incepon, Big Ten programs have combined to win more than 360 team naonal championships.

The Big Ten football championship will be decided by a game played between the

two division champions. A team or teams that are not eligible to parcipate in apostseason football bowl game as a result of NCAA and/or Big Ten sancons shallnot be eligible to parcipate in the Big Ten football championship game. The

winner of the Big Ten football championship game will represent the Conferencein the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) unless a conference team other than thechampion is ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in the nal BCS poll.

The following procedure will determine the representave from each division inthe event of a e:

(a) If two teams are ed, the winner of the game between the two edteams shall be the representave

(b) If three or more teams are ed, steps 1 through 7 will be followed unl a

determinaon is made. If only two teams remain ed aer any step, thewinner of the game between the two ed teams shall be the representave.

1. The records of the three ed teams will be compared against each

other 2. The records of the three ed teams will be compared within their

division 3. The records of the three teams will be compared against the next

highest placed teams in their division in order of nish (4, 5, and 6) 4. The records of the three teams will be compared against all

common conference opponents;

5. The highest ranked team in the rst Bowl Championship Series Pollfollowing the compleon of Big Ten regular season conference playshall be the representave in the Big Ten Championship Game,

unless the two highest ranked ed teams are ranked within onespot of each other in the BCS poll. In this case, the head-to-headresults of the top two ranked ed teams shall determine the

representave in the Big Ten Championship 6. The team with the best overall winning percentage [excluding

exempted games] shall be the representave

7. The representave will be chosen by random draw.

If one or both of the Big Ten division champions is ineligible to play in the Big Ten

championship game, then the parcipant(s) in the Big Ten championship gameshall be determined by the following procedure:a) If the ineligible team is ed for the division championship, then the team

it ed with shall be the Big Ten championship game representave.b) If two or more teams are ed with an ineligible team for the division

championship, then the ineligible team is removed and the remaining

teams revert to the e-break procedure.c) The division runner-up shall be the Big Ten championship game

representave.

d) If there is a division runner-up e, then the ed teams shall revert to thee-break procedure.

If the championship game cannot be played (due to any reason beyond thecontrol of the Big Ten Conference), the two division champions (using divisionale-breakers as set forth above) shall be declared co-champions and the following

procedure will be used to determine the Big Ten Conference representave tothe Bowl Championship Series:a) Teams ranked either No. 1 or No. 2 in the nal BCS poll will automacally

be placed in the BCS championship game.

b) If the two divisional representaves met previously in the season andneither is ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in the nal BCS standings, the teamranked highest in the nal BCS standings shall be the representave

to the BCS, unless the other team is ranked within ve or fewer places ofthe higher ranked team. In this case, the head-to-head results of the twoteams shall determine the Conferences BCS representave.

c) If the two divisional representaves did not meet previously during the season, the team ranked highest in the BCS standings shall be the BCS

representave.

d) If the two teams are ed in the BCS standings, the team with the bestoverall Big Ten record shall be the BCS representave.

e) If the two teams remain ed aer d), the team with the best combined

record of the ed teams against all common Big Ten opponents eachteam played that season shall be the BCS representave.

f) If the two teams remain ed aer e), the representave will be the team

with the best overall winning percentage.g) If the two teams remain ed aer f), the representave will be the team

furthest removed from BCS parcipaon.

h) If the two teams remain ed aer g), the representave shall bedetermined by a random draw.
