I am their  mom.”   Partnering with 9+ school districts Middle and High School  Afterschool programs and mentoring Developing youth leaders Summer Programs School-wide assemblies Case Management Drug, Alcohol, Sex, other risk preventio  What We Do: NWFS’ Counseling Department provides profession- al counseling to individuals, couples, and families in the areas of: Depression, Anxiety, Grief, Parenting, Trauma, Eating Disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress, and Pregnancy Loss.  What We Do: Counseling Department Manager, Ruth Hayes- Barba, says,“ Almost everyone at some point in their  life needs a safe place to sort things out and make  sense of what they feel and what is going on in their  life. Counseling provides the environment where this can happen.”  Feature Story: Rex Putnam High School  One story NWFS would like to share is about a sophomore, Mark, who was failing ALL of his classes. Aer many meengs, Mark admied that he regularly smoked marijuana, explained that his father was an alcoholic, and that he oen used the drug to not have to deal with his home life. We worked with Mark, and eventually got him to quit drugs, regularly aend class, and do his homework. Over the summer, we set him up with our CareerFit program where he was able to secure a job. His condence began to go up, as well as his movaon. By his senior year, Mark was on track to graduate, sll working aer school and on weekends, and drug free. This year, Mark connues to meet with his NWFS Preventnet Coordinator, and we expect Mark to walk as he accepts his diploma in June!  A total of 239 clients have had their tax Tax Season 2013 in Thanks to NWFS and community partner AARP Foundation Ta This service provided FREE Tax Return low - to moderate income taxpayers. A new website has been launched:  www.symptopro.org. The information and registration features will be migrated over to that new website. Community Partner Spotlight For over a year now Northwest Family Services’ Lasting Relationship Department has been partnering with My Father’s House Family Shelter in Gresham. This shelter is designed to offer housing for homeless famil ies for an average of 4 months. Not only do they provide these families with a place to sleep and a home, My Father’s House seeks to equip families to meet their emotional and relational needs. As a partner, NWFS provides Parenting and Healthy Relationship  workshops to the residents, along with CareerFit Workshops to help families find employment. Over 120 people have completed our Parenting and Healthy Relationship Workshops, encouraging and equipping individuals with communication, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, parental discipline and communal living skills. We’ve also been able to work with some couple’s on an individual basis providing Couple’s Coaching through our Prepare Enrich program. This partnership and collaboration has provided a great opportunity to help people “Live, Grow, and Succeed!”

CareerFit CLASSES

Health Navigation has served over 915 Children and families with Health Insurance Assistance through the

Healthy Kids Program. Services provided include; Enrollment, Navigation of Benefits, and Recertification of 

benefits. NWFS’ Oral Health Program has served over 250 low income adults with preventive and

emergency dental services since September 2012.

Over 1,000 children and families have received oral health education and supplies in Clackamas County.

The NWFS Health Navigation Department focuses on improving the health and well-being of childrenand families by offering Oregon Health Plan navigation assistance, Free dental services, and family sup-

port case management.

Featured Highlight: Family Support Navigators — New Since January 2013

These navigators work with open DHS cases and other families to provide the resources and support

they need to overcome their significant barriers. In addition, family navigators are supportin g the com-

munity by providing one-on-one case management.
