for I was hungry and you gave me food I was thirsty and you gave me

something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.

Roman scribes wrote on papyrus with a thin rod made of lead, called a stylus. The soft metal of lead left

legible mark. In 1564, a large graphite deposit was discovered in England. It was discovered that graphit

leaves a darker mark than lead, plus it's non-toxic. Pencils began to be used, similar to the stylus, except with

wrapping to keep the user's hands clean.

Before the eraser was invented, you could use a rolled up piece of trimmed white bread to remove pencil mark

This is a practice still commonly used by artists even today to lighten charcoal or pastel marks. In 1770, Edwar

Naime, an English engineer, was credited with the invention of the eraser. The story goes that he picked up

piece of rubber rather than the usual wad of bread and discovered its properties. Naime began selling rubbe

erasers in the first practical application of the substance, getting its name from its ability to rub out pencil marks

Rubber, like bread, was perishable and would go bad over time. It was not until 1839, when Charles Goodyea

invented the process of vulcanization, that the widespread use of rubber for erasers became common.

Erasing things is not a new concept by any means. As we have read, it is a practice that has been around for

while used to improve or correct mistakes made in writing, computation and even art. And yet I wonder if thi

simple task of erasing holds greater significance in living our lives. As it is, we too have marks that have bee

left behind, overlooked and sometimes forgotten. It is true for all of us that we should also reexamine our lives

Just as an engineers check their calculations; or carpenters recheck their measurements to ensure the prope

cut; or a note written in haste might be viewed out of context. We too need to begin erasing the lines and mark

that get in the way of living our lives the way the Master Carpenter called us to do.

Jesus gave his followers the great commission in Matthew 28:16-20 to be lived out day in and day out. This

a mandatory directive to live into the Kingdom of God in Christ Jesus. This did not come with options like on

when it feels right or when it is most convenient for us. Jesus called his disciples to be 100% committed to thi

new covenant relationship. It calls us to love the unloveable and to erase the barriers that interfere with sharin

the gospel message with others:

to support his ministry beyond the safety and comfort of what you know and venture into the areas of makin

now and am having a greattime. Because of the gifts

received by me on my last

visit to TPC; four guitars

have been placed inministries in the U.S., two

more have gone to Cuba, two have gone to Peru andthree more will go to Peru in September. That will

have a significant impact on the lives of a lot of

people. Humberto has been in Cuba with his family

all of August and will return to seminary next month.There are problems with the documents of his family,

but we are still hopeful of getting them here soon. I

am so blessed to have friends around the world and to

have family like the one at Trinity. I continue to pray

The local band Wayside, ofwhich Seth Cotton is the bassplayer and back-up singer,had their dream come truewhen the band was asked to

be the opening act for an up-and-coming countrstar, Chris Cagle, at the Monroe Civic Center oAugust 16th. Band members hope thiperformance leads to more opportunities.

Buddy Pierce, Catahoula Parish Farm BureaPresident, was awarded the Three Star Awardfrom the Louisiana Farm Bureau at the MarrioHotel in New Orleans on June 26because of hiservice to the farming community. Alsattending was his wife Darrah, and boarmemberBurch Pierce and his wife Ashley.

Hannah Cotton attended a ten day instructionaclass for all Resident Assistants at LSU in BatoRouge. As an RA, Hannah is in charge of 2freshman girls in Broussard Hall as well aworking several days a week in the office. She imajoring in Veterinary Medicine.

Look Whats New at TPCBeginning this month you will find that we havadded a media center in the fellowship hall. We hareported to you, through the Clerk of SessionSummary of Actions in May 2013, that the Sessiohad approved new televisions to update the churcfacilities utilizing Memorial Funds.

The new TV and other equipment in the FellowshiHall will allow for DVD media to be played as well aserve as a permanent screen for computer assisteprojections in Christian Education classes, groumeetings, and for use by guest speakers.
