What do I need to know?

Track season is fast and furious! It can last for 3, 4, 5 or 6 weeks. It depends on how you perform in the events.

Athletes compete according to their grade and gender.

4th grade and distance runners begin April 15 5 and 6 grade students begin April 22 Athletes train for 3 weeks before the first In-

House Track Meet on May 3. The remaining meets are: May 10, May 17,

and May 23

What happens May 3?

All athletes will compete in the events they want to qualify for.

The top 3 athletes in each event will advance to Clovis West on May 10.

Clovis West Meet on May 10

Uniforms will be passed out for this event Clovis West Meet: Begins at 12:00 and

athletes will try to be the top 2 FROM FORT WASHINGTON in order to qualify for the meet on May 17

If your child doesn’t finish in the top 2 from FORT WASHINGTON, his/her track season for that event is over.

Area Track Meet on May 17

Athletes from the Clovis West Area will compete for the top 2 (first or second) short distance spots and top 3 (first, second, or third) for field events and long distance.

Qualification for advancing will be finishing in the top 2 or 3 in your event. (It doesn’t matter what school you attend.)

This meet is all day. (9-3)

District Track Meet

On Thursday, May 23, the top athletes from the Clovis West Area will compete at Clovis East High School. Athletes will compete against all the Clovis Unified elementary track athletes that qualified for a specific event. This is an all day track meet. (9-3)

Running: 100m, 200, 400m, 800m, 1500m

What about relay teams?

Each grade and gender will have ONE relay team that consists of 4 members.

Athletes will try out for the relay team during practice the week of April 29-May 3. Times will be taking during practice that week.

The 4 top times in the 100m will be assigned to the relay team.

What does my child need?

Each day for practice your child needs: A water bottle Comfortable shoes (track shoes are not needed) Comfortable practice attire

Uniforms will be handed out for the May 10 meet.

Athletes may wear their own clothes for the May 3 track meet. Clovis West Meet: Begins at 12:00 and athletes will try to be the top 2 FROM FORT WASHINGTON in order to qualify for the meet on May 17

How many events may my child participate in?

Your child may participate in a total of 3 events. If your child qualifies for the relay team; this will be one of his/her events.

Your child may chose to participate in all running events, all field events, or a mixture of field and running events.
