Law is essential to creating a just society, but law does not create justice by itself.
GLOBAL
Building and strengthening the global pro bono community is one of PILnet’s key strategies for protecting human rights, advancing social justice, and defending the most vulnerable.
In 2013, PILnet’s clearinghouses in Hungary, Russia, and its cross-border Global Clearinghouse facilitated access to more than $4.3 million and 9,543 hours in legal services, assisting 119 NGO clients in 25 countries. $4.3

PILnet’s goals are to see pro bono become an intrinsic value in the practice of law in countries around the world, and to build a new constituency of law firms, corporations, and attorneys from the private sector working to ensure access to justice, strengthen the NGO sector and address some of the critical human rights issues of our time.

HUNGARY CLEARINGHOUSE In 2013, 6 law firms and/or corporations responded taking matters through the Hungarian Clearinghouse.
The total value of work done through the Hungarian Clearinghouse was $331,611 in 2013.
The total number of hours spent on pro bono matters through the Hungarian Clearinghouse was 987.
RUSSIA CLEARINGHOUSE In 2013, 10 law firms and/or corporations responded taking matters through the Russian Clearinghouse.
The total value of work done through the Russian Clearinghouse was $843,069 in 2013.
The total number of hours spent on pro bono matters through the Russian Clearinghouse was 1,284.
GLOBAL CLEARINGHOUSE In 2013, 28 law firms and/or corporations responded taking matters through the Global Clearinghouse.
The total value of work done through the Global Clearinghouse was $3,721,866 in 2013.
The total number of hours spend on pro bono matters through the Global Clearinghouse was 7,182.
PILnet links together a global network of pro bono clearinghouses which connect law firms and corporations with NGOs and individuals in need of
legal assistance.
PILnet widens and deepens the global pro bono community through convening annual Pro Bono
Forums in Europe and Asia bringing together the key actors in those regions.
As global pro bono culture grows around the world, PILnet is creating resources that make local advocacy
more effective.
PARTNER CLEARINGHOUSES In addition to its clearinghouses, PILnet also works to advance pro bono at the country level by advising over 30 partner clearinghouses in over 25 counties.
