Conference AgendaAugust 23, 2013

7:15am – 8:15am Attendee Check-In/Registration and Networking Breakfast

7:15am – 3:00pm Exhibits Open

8:00am – 8:15am Welcome and Program Introductions

– Steve Davies, MS, MBA

8:15am – 9:30am Easier Said Than Done: Leading People During Times of Change

– Chris Clarke-Epstein, CSPHere’s the deal. There’s change—there’s lots of change. Everyone expects you, the leader, to be positive enough for the whole team. Change is easy for you,

right? You are the leader after all—how in charge of things do you feel these days? Change aff ects a leader twice—fi rst as you work though all the issues for

yourself, and second, as you do your job helping others through change. During this interactive session, you’ll have the opportunity to think about the way

change places demands on leaders. You’ll discover your most common reaction to change, how eff ective your reaction is, and how your reaction infl uences

the behaviors of others in your organization. We’ll identify and explore key skills that will help you develop into a focused leader as you face what’s next in

your world.

9:30am – 10:30am Accountable Care Organizations: Getting Ready For ACO Participation

– John P. Schmitt, Ph.D.In 2010 there were 10 ACOs in the nation, in January of 2013 there were 428 in 49 states-a 40 fold increase in three years. Currently about 12% of the nation’s

insured population are participating in ACOs. Further, both government and commercial payers report plans to surge forward in the next three to fi ve years

to get the remainder of their insureds into ACO-like arrangements. This session explains how ACOs work and how medical groups can assess their readiness

to participate in them. It will also provide insight into how Health Insurance (Marketplace) Exchanges will impact medical practices and what medical

practices should expect from payers participating in the Exchanges.

10:30am – 11:00am Networking Break with Exhibitors

11:00am – 12:00pm Accountable Care Contracting: Negotiation Priorities And Strategies

– John P. Schmitt, Ph.D.Accountable care organization (ACO) contracts are very diff erent from traditional fee-for service contracts. Few medical practices have experience with risk

sharing arrangements, data reporting requirements and contractual terms inherent in ACO contracts. Successful ACO contracting will hinge on the ability of

medical groups to improve payer trust levels and align payer-provider operational goals. This interactive session will introduce a contracting methodology

reported in the February 2013 issue of MGMA’s Connexion journal. Attendees will learn to use a new tool described in the article, the “accountable care

contracting matrix”, to determine ACO contracting priorities and negotiation strategies.

12:00pm – 12:45pm Ohio MGMA Business Meeting and Ohio Legislative Updates

– Ohio MGMA Board of Directors and Offi cers

12:45pm – 1:30pm Networking Luncheon

ACMPE Update Breakout Luncheon

– Michael O’Connell, MHA, FACHE, FACMPE

1:30pm – 2:30pm Measuring the Patient Experience

– Patty Riskind, Press Ganey Associates Inc.The Clinician & Group CAHPS survey requirement is right around the corner. Is your medical practice prepared? CMS has already initiated the ACO CAHPS

survey, NCQA has its Patient-Centered Medical Home CAHPS version, and the American Board of Medical Specialties will soon include CGCAHPS as part

of Maintenance of Certifi cation. What’s next? When will public reporting of patient experience become a reality for doctors? Get the latest update on

measuring patient satisfaction using CGCAHPS and fi nd out how to be prepared.

2:30pm – 3:00pm Networking Break with Exhibitors

3:00pm – 3:10pm Door Prize Giveaways in General Session Room

3:10pm – 4:10pm Improving Practice Profi tability – Getting Ready for Alternative Payments

– Owen J. Dahl, MBA, FACHE, LSSMBBIn this session we will review the overall profi tability of your practice. Obviously it starts with the revenue cycle with increase in private pay dollars here. But

where do you go when fee for service payments reduce and alternatives such as bundled, global, or capitation become the majority of your payments? At

that point, the cost of doing business will become more critical. We will review your current revenue cycle, how it could change in the future, and how to

determine what it really costs to see a patient. In this session we will identify gaps in your current revenue cycle and what can be done to fi x them, Develop

models to determine your true cost of doing business and identify key performance indicators, frequency, and trend analysis of all to insure a stable and

successful profi t picture.

4:10pm – 4:20pm Final Announcements and Closing
