Railroad, Casey Jones was killed on April 30, 1900 his passenger train collided with a

stalled freight train at Vaughan, Mississippi on a foggy and rainy night. His dramatic

death trying to stop his train and save lives made him a folk hero who became

immortalized in a popular ballad.

NASA's Director of Flight Crew Operations from November 1963 until March 1972. He

was subsequently granted medical clearance to fly as the docking module pilot of the

Apollo-Soyuz Test Project. At the age of 51, he became then the oldest person to fly into

space.

In 1928, flush with fur trapping funds, Teslin Tlingit George Johnston purchased a new

car, had it shipped by small paddle wheeler several hundred miles upstream in the Yukon

River watershed to the remote village of Teslin, then located in a vast and roadless

wilderness. There he had readied four miles of crude road on which to drive the car, road

that 13 years later was to become part of the fabled Alaska Highway north. The original

car, in excellent working order, is on exhibit with a photographic history of its exploits.

"Fast Mail", utilizing railway cars to sort mail while the train was moving between

destinations. His "tombstone" is a very detailed model of a mail train car (about one and a

half feet long) appearing to be going through a tunnel complete with realistic looking ivy.

History. Ham was one of the chimps specially trained by rocket scientists to fly in tests of

American space capsules. On January 31, 1961, Ham blasted off from Cape Canaveral

and traveled 157 miles in a Mercury capsule before splashing down in the Atlantic ocean.

Three months later the first American human, Alan Shepard, followed him into space.

Among the more remarkable remnants of America’s nineteenth-century gold rush is the

Hanging Flume, a 21-kilometer track built along the steep walls of Colorado’s Dolores

River Canyon that was used to transport more than 30 million liters of water a day for use

in hydraulic gold mining. To construct the Hanging Flume, trestles were built over

ditches while sections suspended over the river were attached to the sheer rock faces with

the aid of cantilevered iron placements.

Earn 8 points per minute for staying in one place for a minimum of 4 hours, up to 8 hours

maximum credit. Your starting receipt may be on Tuesday but you must then document

at least 4 hours on Wednesday (no points are earned before 12:00:01 am on Wednesday).

As long as you start on Wednesday, you can continue earning credit on Thursday.

Document a stop for four (4) or more hours starting on Wednesday, July 10.

Leg 3 Tracking/Fuel Log Bonus

A maximum of 2,000 points total is available for keeping fuel purchase records OR using

a satellite tracking system that is functioning properly and leaving track of your position

that is accessible by Iron Butt Rally Staff. You don’t have to do both. To obtain points

for fuel purchase records, riders must submit a receipt for every fuel purchase with the

following information on the receipt: (1) location (city/town and state/province), (2) date,

(3) time, and (4) volume (gallons or liters) purchased. Riders with a total fuel capacity of

7.0 or more U.S. gallons must also fill out the attached "Fuel Log" in order to obtain

points for fuel purchase records.

If any of the required information is not printed on a fuel receipt, it must be hand written

on the receipt. Any error in the printed date should also be corrected by hand. (Errors in

the printed time need not be corrected IF YOU ARE KEEPING A FUEL LOG.) Also,

write the telephone number of the station on the receipt if you correct an error other than

a time error. The fuel log requires all of the same information as required on fuel receipts

plus the odometer reading and the correct time the purchase was made. AS WITH ALL

OTHER BONUSES, YOU MUST CLAIM THIS BONUS ON THE CLAIMED
