The Vikings open the 2013 season at Detroit in the 1st of 2 road divisional games to start the season. The Viking swept the season series against the Lions for the 1st time since 2009. The Vikings received one of many notable special teams performances in the Week 4, 20-13, win at Detroit when they notched both a KR TD and PR TD for an NFL record 3rd time in team history. The Vikings have won 7 of the last 10 games with the Lions and own a 68-33-2 record all-time in the series.

The Vikings and Bears, who play at Chicago in Week 2, split the season series in 2012 with each squad winning on their re-spective home fi elds. In 2012, Chicago and Minnesota played twice in 3 weeks. The Bears won convincingly at Soldier Field in Week 12 with a 28-10 victory. In Week 14, the Vikings returned the favor beating the Bears, 21-14. RB Adrian Peterson rushed for 154 yards and 2 TDs while rookie DBs CB Josh Robinson and S Harrison Smith added INTs. Smith returned his pick 56-yards for a TD, his 2nd INT return TD on the season which tied a Vikings rookie record. The Bears-Vikings series sits in favor of Minne-sota at 53-49 all-time. Minnesota set a franchise record by starting 5 diff erent rookies against Chicago (12/9) in 2012, a 21-14 win. Adrian Peterson’s 224 rushing yards as a rookie against the Bears is the most of any opponent all-time against the Bears.

The Vikings will open up their home slate with the Cleveland Browns for the 1st time in club history. The Vikings last played the Browns in the 2009 season opener where RB Adrian Peterson powered the Vikings with a 180-yard 3-TD per-formance to a 34-20 win. That season the Vikings made a trip to the NFC Championship game. Minnesota owns a 7-1 mark at home and has won 4 straight contests against the Browns. Cleveland’s only win in Minnesota came in 1986.

The Steelers and Vikings will travel to London, England to play in the 7th game of the NFL’s International Series. The Vikings will serve as the host team for the game played September 29, 2013 at Wembley Stadium. In 1983, the Minnesota Vikings and the St. Louis Cardinals played a preseason game at London’s Wembley Stadium in a game called the ‘Global Cup’. The Vikings beat the Cardinals 28-10 in what was the 1st American football game played at Wembley Stadium. The Vikings have also played in preseason games in Sweden (1988), Germany (1993) and Ja-pan (1994). The international meeting marks the 17th contest between the two franchises, including Super Bowl IX in 1975. In their last meeting, Pittsburgh topped Minnesota 27-17 at Heinz Field in Week 7 of the 2009 season.

Following the bye week, the Vikings and Panthers square off for their 11th meeting and the 8th time in Minnesota in Week 6. The last time the two teams met, Week 8 in 2011, a pair of rookie QBs, Christian Ponder and Cam Newton, squared off in a Vi-kings 24-21 win at Carolina. Ponder won his 1st game as a starter and fi nished with a QB rating of 102.7. Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera and Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier were teammates with the Chicago Bears and won Super Bowl XX in 1985.

In a Week 7 Monday Night Football matchup, the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants play for the 1st time since meeting at Ford Field in Detroit after the roof collapse at the Metrodome in 2010 where the Giants defeated the Vikings 21-3. The Vikings will make their 2nd trip to the New Meadowlands but their 1st to play the Giants. The Vikings squared off at MetLife Stadium against the Jets in a Monday Night Football matchup in 2010. The Vikings are 8-6 against the Giants on the road.

The Packers and Vikings will meet for the 106th during Week 8 on Sunday Night Football. The Vikings will host the Packers on Sunday Night Football for the 3rd time in team history. The Vikings last hosted Sunday Night Foot-ball in 2008 in a win over the Bears. Both 2012 meetings came in December for the 1st time ever. RB Adrian Peterson, including the NFC Wild Card game, ran for a total of 508 yards in 3 games versus the Packers. QB Christian Ponder had his best outing of the 2012 season vs. the Packers in a Week 17 playoff -clinching win, recording a career best 120.2 QB rating and connecting on a season long 65-yard pass to WR Jarius Wright. The Packers are the Vikings’ most fre-quent opponent of all time. Adrian Peterson has 1,541 rushing yards and 9 TDs in 13 career games vs. the Packers.

In Week 9 Minnesota will visit Dallas for the 1st time since 2007, when Texas native Adrian Peterson was a rookie. The Vikings hold a 7-5 advantage over the Cowboys in Dallas while the all-time series is locked at 14-14. This is the Vi-kings 1st visit to Cowboys stadium. Vikings QB Christian Ponder grew up in Colleyville, Texas, a suburb of Dallas.

The Vikings and Redskins will meet for the 4th consecutive season in 2013, the longest streak in series histo-ry, in a Thursday Night Football matchup in Week 10. Minnesota had won 3 in row until their 2012 meeting. Les-lie Frazier earned his 1st win as a Head Coach against the Redskins in 2010 after taking over on an interim basis for the fi nal 6 games of the regular season. Leslie Frazier, as a head coach, is 2-1 versus Washington. The Redskins won Super Bowl XXVI in the only Super Bowl played in Minnesota against the Buff alo Bills during the 1991 season.

In a Week 11 matchup of familiar non-division opponents, the two youngest playoff teams in 2012 square off at Centu-ryLink Field for the 2nd consecutive season for the 1st time in series history. Seattle WRs Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin along with Off ensive Coordinator Darrell Bevell and Special Teamer Heath Farwell all spent signifi cant time with the Vi-kings, including a run to the 2009 NFC Championship game. The Vikings came up short, 20-30, in 2012 at CenturyLink Field.

The Packers and Vikings will meet for the 107th time in Week 12 at Green Bay . Both 2012 meetings came in December for the 1st time ever. RB Adrian Peterson, including the NFC Wild Card game, ran for a total of 508 yards in 3 games versus the Pack-ers. QB Christian Ponder had his best outing of the 2012 season vs. the Packers in a Week 17 playoff -clinching win, recording a career best 120.2 QB rating and connecting on a season long 65-yard pass to WR Jarius Wright. The Packers are the Vikings’ most frequent opponent of all time. Adrian Peterson has 1,541 rushing yards and 9 TDs in 13 career games vs. the Packers.

The Vikings and Bears, who play at Minnesota in Week 13, split the season series in 2012 with each squad winning on their re-spective home fi elds.

The Vikings will play the defending Super Bowl champs, Baltimore Ravens, for the 1st time since 2009 and the 1st time in Baltimore since 2005. Minnesota is 1-2 at Baltimore against the Ravens. The last time the Vi-kings met the defending Super Bowl champions was in 2011 when they played the Green Bay Packers and have played the defending Super Bowl champions 4 of the last 5 years (PIT ’09, NO ’10, GB ’11, BAL ’13).

In Week 15 the Eagles are making their 1st trip to Minneapolis since 2008 when they defeated the Vikings, 26-14, in the NFC Wild Card Playoff Game. In their last meeting, the Vikings gutted out a 24-14 win at Philadelphia in a rare Tuesday Night matchup in 2010 after the game had been postponed due to a blizzard. Counting playoff s, Philadelphia has visited the Metrodome 5 times prior to 2013.

The Bengals and Vikings, both playoff teams in 2012, matchup for the 1st time since 2009 and the 1st time in Cincinnati since 2005. The Vikings are 1-5 all-time on the road against Cincinnati. Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier served as the Bengals Defen-sive Coordinator from 2003-04. Vikings TE and 2013 Pro Bowl MVP Kyle Rudolph hails from Cincinnati and attended Elder High.

The Vikings end the 2013 season hosting Detroit in the fi nal regular season game at Mall of American Field.
