LETTER FROM THE DEPARTMENT HEAD

In the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University, we strive to provide the highest quality education for our students, preparing them for their future careers in an innovative and ever-changing field. It is our desire to encourage creative thinking and problem solving in academics, as well as hands-on experience in the laboratory and in the industry by providing opportunities for collaboration with companies and research groups.

All this is made possible through the generosity and support of our sponsors, many of whom are graduates from this department. Together they work to build a legacy that will provide continuing advancements and improvements for the department, allowing us to continue to strive toward our goal of being the greatest Mechanical Engineering program in the country.

I would also like to acknowledge and thank the students in our department, especially the ones that are here with us tonight. OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

Professor Edwin S. Holdredge Award

The Professor Edwin S. Holdredge Award was established by Mr. J. Mike Walker ’66 and his wife Donna in 2003 in honor of Professor Edwin S. Holdredge. The award is presented to senior students in Mechanical Engineering who have scored the highest GPAs in their class. Dr. Holdredge began his career at Texas A&M in 1939 and retired in 1980 as Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering. He was a gifted teacher and chaired forty Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy committees. Dr. Holdredge was awarded a Distinguished Achievement Award in 1962. Mr. Walker, a former student of Dr. Holdredge, graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1966. He has worked for Dril-Quip, Inc. since 1981.

Jonathon D. Fisher

Jonathon was born in Pennsylvania in 1991, and soon after moved to Houston to begin his transformation into a full Texan. He attended Katy High School and became highly involved with the football program. He helped lead his team to two state championships as an inside linebacker. He incurred several concussions and had to give up football, and decided to focus his efforts on becoming an engineer at Texas A&M University. At Texas A&M, he has been involved with Camp Kesem, Sophomores Leading and Motivation, ASPIRE, Pi Tau

Sigma, and Leaders in Freshman Engineering. In addition to his Mechanical Engineering degree, he is also pursuing a Business and Math minor. His passions include thermal fluids, solid mechanics, and tailgating. After graduating in May 2014, he will join Chevron as a Drilling Engineer, and hopes to continue to grow as an engineer, as well as a leader.

Nathan A. Hogg

Nathan is a senior Mechanical Engineering major at Texas A&M University, and will graduate in May 2014. He has received several academic merit awards, including the President’s Endowed Scholarship, the Brown Foundation Scholarship, and the Dean’s List. He interned as a Plant Engineer at Lhoist North America, in the summer of 2012, and as a Semiconductor Fab Engineering Intern at Texas Instruments in the summer of 2013, assisting with the plasma module at the

Richardson FAB location. At Texas A&M, Nathan has been part of Fish Camp, Aggies for Christ, Abbott Family Leadership Conference, and MSC FISH, where he received the MSC Jessie W. Jordan Innovative Leadership Award. He is currently serving as the Vice President of Leadership Development and Service for the Memorial Student Center. In his free time, Nathan enjoys working out, travelling abroad, and keeping up with college football and the NBA. Upon graduation, Nathan will join Texas Instruments full-time. In the future he hopes to attend business school and pursue an MBA degree.

Christopher T. Kirkland

Christopher is a senior Mechanical Engineering major who worked in the Polymer Nanocomposites Lab for three years as a lab assistant to a graduate student, assisting her with creating samples, testing the samples for flammability and composite growth, and performing literature searches to find new avenues for the research. He also attended the American Chemical Society’s fall national meeting to present the lab’s research. His main interests in Mechanical Engineering are Finite Element Analysis, computer-aided engineering, and solid

mechanics. Outside class, most of his time is devoted to acting as VP of Projects for Texas A&M’s chapter of Engineers Without Borders. He has traveled twice to Belize as part of his work with the group and will be travelling to Nicaragua this spring. His favorite hobby is scuba diving. He has received advanced and rescue scuba diving certifications as part of a Texas A&M Kinesiology class he took.

Zachary S. Leonard

Zach is a senior from Houston, Texas, majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a Business minor. His main areas of interest are materials, solid mechanics, and mechanical design. He has enjoyed summer employment with Stress Engineering, as well as Hewlett-Packard. At Hewlett-Packard he worked in the Mechanical Architecture group responsible for the development of HP’s business notebook and slate products. He is currently leading a senior design project team investigating fresh air cooling and server chassis

oxidation mitigation. Zach is very active in the Aggie Club of Engineers, where he currently serves as the Treasurer. He has previously held the positions of Godfather and Member-at-Large and participated in the Recruitment and Service Committees. In addition to ACE, he has held the positions of Upperclassmen Liaison, Special Events Coordinator, and Sophomore Liaison in Texas A&M’s chapter of the American Society of

Mechanical Engineers. In his free time, Zach enjoys traveling, skiing, and playing football, volleyball, and golf. He will graduate in December 2014.

Andre J. Nel

Andre will graduate with a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Computer Science in the spring of 2014, and thereafter will begin work on a Masters of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University. He has spent the last two summers interning in the Petroleum Industry in South Texas and Alaska. His goal is to finish his education and secure a position in a company where he would use the skills he has learned in school to solve problems. He is currently a member of the American

Society of Mechanical Engineers. He is influenced by Boy Scouts of America, and helps young scouts on their path to Eagle.

Robert M. Price

Matt is a senior Mechanical Engineering student from Denton, Texas. He is participating in the fast track program, taking some graduate classes during his senior year with the intent to pursue an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M and graduate by May 2015. His primary interests are solid mechanics, dynamics, and design. Matt has had two summer internships, one with Bray International, Inc. in summer 2012 and one with SpaceX in summer 2013. Matt served as a Sophomore Advisor in the freshman honors dorms,

and has been singing with the Texas A&M Century Singers since his earliest days as a student at Texas A&M. In his free time, he enjoys reading novels, playing video games, hanging out with friends, and catching up on sleep.

Brian W. Reid

Brian was born in Denver, CO, and raised in Houston, TX. He is currently interested in pursuing a career in the oil and gas industry after he graduates in May 2014. He would like to pursue a career in drilling or completions with an operator, or in more technical design work with a company such as Schlumberger. Outside of class, he enjoys playing soccer and power lifting. He likes taking long walks on the beach and watching Johnny Football beat Texas A&M opponents on the football field.

K.R. Ramamani Undergraduate Thesis Award

The K.R. Ramamani Undergraduate Thesis Award was established in 2004 by professor K. R. Rajagopal, a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The award honors his father and will provide assistance to a Mechanical Engineering student entering their senior year in the honors program and plans to complete an undergraduate honors thesis during their senior year at Texas A&M University.

Andrew William Johnson

Andrew is a 5th year senior from Tucker, Georgia. He is currently working on an undergraduate thesis by investigating the back-leakage of gas over the teeth of a twin-screw, two-phase pump at different gas volume fractions with Dr. Gerald Morrison at the Texas A&M Turbo-Machinery Lab. Andrew is planning to pursue a graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering upon completion of his Bachelor’s Degree in May 2014. His engineering interests are in the fluid mechanics and thermodynamics.Ultimately, he plans to enter the oil

and gas industry to make an impact on the way fossil fuels are transported. Andrew spent four years in the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M, where he served in numerous leadership roles that expanded his ‘outside the classroom’ education. He enjoys traveling, working out, spending time with friends, and working on his research at the Turbo Lab.

Vandiver L. Childs III, Captain USAF, Memorial Scholarship Award

The Vandiver L. Childs III, Captain USAF, Memorial Scholarship Award was endowed by Dr. Dara Childs and his wife, Susan, in memory of his brother who died during the Vietnam War. Each year’s recipient will be the junior student making the top grade in the course MEEN 363, Dynamics and Vibrations. Dr. Childs holds the Leland T. Jordan Chair and has been director of the internationally acclaimed Turbomachinery Laboratory for over 25 years.

Mason Friedberg

Mason was born in Montreal, Quebec and moved to the Dallas area when he was young. He always had an interest in how things come apart and go back together, which lead him to pursue his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has been highly involved with the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Texas A&M Racing team for four years. He is also a member of Pi Tau Sigma, the Aggie French Club, the rock climbing club, and is a Resident Advisor in the dorms on campus. His research interests are in thermo-fluids, mechanical design, and

materials science. Outside of school he enjoys staying active, working on cars, and hanging out with friends. After two internships, he is still unsure about which industry he wants to commit himself to, but hopes to push for a role in the automotive industry.

Gladys & William Allison ’44 Scholarship

The Gladys M. and William D. Allison ’44 Scholarship was established by the Allisons in 2006. Mr. Allison earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from Texas A&M in 1944 after military service in World War II. He started his career with Humble Oil and retired from Exxon USA in 1986 after a distinguished 39-year career.

William T. Asbill ’66 Memorial Scholarship

The William T. Asbill ’66 Memorial Scholarship was established by Dr. Joe Fowler, along with family and friends. The scholarship is in memory of William T. Asbill, director and senior vice president of Stress Engineering Services Inc. and Fowler’s business partner. Mr. Asbill graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M in 1966. Asbill passed away in October 2011.

The Edmond I. Bailey ’61 Memorial Scholarship was established by Stress Engineering Services Inc. in honor of Edmond I. Bailey, who passed away in 2003. Bailey was the principal of Stress Engineering Services in Houston and graduated with his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Alison J. Berry ’76 Scholarship

The Alsion J. Berry ’76 Scholarship was endowed by Eben W. Berry, Jr.’43 in 2005. Eben Berry earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M in Mechanical Engineering in 1943. During World War II, he was stationed in Europe with the Combat Engineers and retired as a captain. Mr. Berry spent 35 years working for Humble Oil and retired in 1982. He endowed this scholarship in honor of his daughter, Alison Berry, Texas A&M class of 1976. Ms. Berry earned a bachelor’s degree in Zoology and a medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch. She is now in private practice in San Antonio, TX.

Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Broussard ’44 Scholarship

The Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Broussard ’44 Scholarship was established by Mr. Douglas Broussard ’44. Mr. Broussard retired from Shell Oil Company in 1989, after a 41 - year career as Project Manager for Marine Pipelines. He managed Shell’s pioneering efforts in deep water pipelines and was the Project Manager of the Flags Gasline Project, the longest, largest and deepest offshore pipeline in the North Sea in 1976. Mr. Broussard is a member of the Mechanical Engineering Academy of Distinguished Graduates.

Clayton T. Burger ’00 Scholarship

The Clayton T. Burger ’00 Scholarship was established to help Mechanical Engineering transfer students who participate in varsity or intramural athletics or a student organization associated with athletics. Burger graduated in 2000 and began working for ExxonMobil. In 2003, Burger hit a golf ball 402 yards to win $80,000 in the “Longest Drive” contest. Mr. Burger has endowed this scholarship with a portion of his winnings. His gift was matched by ExxonMobil.

Lou and C.C. Burton ‘42 established the Lou & C.C. Burton ‘42 Scholarship in Mechanical Engineering. The endowment will provide one or more scholarships to full-time juniors or seniors in good standing, pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Aaron Cohen ’52 Engineering Scholarship

The Aaron Cohen ’52 Engineering Scholarship was established in 1991 for Dr. Aaron Cohen by his wife and children in honor of his 60th birthday. Cohen had a long and reputable career at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), until retiring in 1993. He then joined the Texas A&M engineering faculty and was awarded the title of Emeritus Professor. Dr. Cohen passed away in February of 2010.

Jeanette & Robert B. Conn ’51 Scholarship

The Jeanette & Robert B. Conn ’51 Scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Conn in 2007. Mr. Conn graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1951. While a student at Texas A&M, he was a member of the Corps of Cadets and B-Seniors Corps Outift. Mr. Conn is the retired vice president of A.J. Monier & Co. in San Antonio and is one of the class agents for the Class of 1951 of the San Antonio A&M Club. The Conns are 33-year members of the Century Club and are active with Aggie Hostel and the Traveling Aggies.

The Don P. Dixon ’57 & Sons Scholarship was established in 2006 by Don Dixon and his sons David Dixon ’89 and Douglas Dixon ’92. Mr. Dixon graduated from Texas A&M in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. This scholarship will be awarded to students who are graduates of a private school, parochial school or home school, and have demonstrated leadership in high school through participation in organizations or activities such as 4-H, FCA, FFA, Scouts, JROTC, or athletics.

Billie G. Earnheart ’43 Memorial Scholarship

The Billie G. Earnheart ’43 Memorial Scholarship was established in 1981 by Mrs. Nan Earnheart in memory of Mr. Billie Earnheart. Mr. Earnheart graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1943. After graduation, he worked with Monsanto Chemical in Texas City and then at the Corporate Engineering department as Engineering Manager for Mechanical & Materials Technology in St. Louis, Missouri. Mr. Earnheart spent his lifetime teaching the values he learned at Texas A&M until he passed away at his home in 1981.

Diane P. & Thomas E. Fisher ’66 Scholarship

The Diane P. & Thomas E. Fisher ’66 Scholarship was established by the Fishers in 2002. After Mr. Thomas Fisher graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1966, he spent 34 years with Unocal Corporation until his retirement in 2004. Mr. Fisher played an important role in establishing one of Asia’s first natural gas industries in Thailand. His work contributed to the expansion of natural gas and electric industries throughout southern Asia. The Fishers are currently members of the President’s Endowed Scholarship Foundation at Texas A&M.

The Morris E. Foster ’65 Scholarship was established in 1993 by Mr. Foster. A Mechanical Engineering graduate of Texas A&M, Mr. Foster was formerly president of ExxonMobil Production Company. He is a member of the Academy of Distinguished Alumni in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and a former member of the Engineering Advisory Council, and a member of the Texas A&M Board of Regents.

Marie & James H. Galloway, Jr. ’29 Scholarship

The Marie & James H. Galloway Jr. ’29 Scholarship was established in 2005 by Marie Galloway. Galloway received a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1929. He joined Humble Oil and Refining Co. in 1930 as a Petroleum Engineer and advanced to Vice President and Director in 1967. Galloway implemented many revolutionary innovations which are common practice in the petroleum industry today.

Bobbie & Louis Gee ’44 Endowed Scholarship

The Bobbie & Louis Gee’44 Endowed Scholarship was established in 1996 by Mr. Louis S. Gee. Mr. Gee graduated from Texas A&M in 1948 with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and went on to become the co-founder and CEO of Tippett & Gee Inc., a consulting engineering firm in Abilene, Texas.

The Mary Ann & Gordon Gibson ’55 Scholarship was established in 2003 by Mr. and Mrs. Gibson. Mr. Gibson graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and received his master’s in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University. He began his career with Lockheed Martin where he held numerous technical and management positions, and is presently the Director of Configuration Development at their Fort Worth Division.

Jennifer ’93 & Scott ’93 Gill Scholarship

The Jennifer ’93 & Scott ’93 Gill Scholarship is a new scholarship endowed by the Gills in August of 2013 . Scott J. Gill and his wife Jennifer graduated from Texas A&M in 1993 . Mr. Gill is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Milestone AV Technologies Inc., since September 2007 and CSAV Inc., since May 2005 respectively. This scholarship is awarded to female students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Eva C. & Ernst H. Gras ’44 Memorial Scholarship

The Eva C. & Ernst H. Gras ’44 Memorial Scholarship was endowed by Ernst Gras. During his time at Texas A&M, Mr. Gras was a member of the Corps of Cadets and the Fighting Texas Aggie Band. He served in the U.S. Army as an officer in the Field Artillery and Corps of Engineers in the European Theater of Operations during the Battle of the Bulge. In 1997, Mr. Gras retired from Halliburton Oil Well Services after 50 years and passed away in 1999.

Melanie Stiborik Graves ‘77 and James R. Graves Jr. ‘77 Scholarship

The Melanie Stiborik Graves ‘77 and James R. Graves Jr. ‘77 Scholarship was endowed by Mr. and Mrs. Graves in 2013. Mr. Graves graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1977. His wife, Melanie, graduated in the same year with a bachelor’s degree in Management. After graduating, Mr. Graves went to work for I. A. Naman and Associates as a consulting engineer until he came into his family’s mechanical contracting business, Graves Mechanical, where he serves as president.

A.W. Guill ’41 Endowed Scholarship

The A.W. Guill ’41 Endowed Scholarship was endowed by Mrs. Ursula M. Guill in 1994 in honor of her husband. Mr. Guill graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1947. After graduation, Mr. Guill worked for numerous companies and lived in Texas, England, and Scotland with his wife before finally settling in New Canaan, CT, where he founded Guillco, Inc. and served as the company’s president until his retirement. Mrs. Ursula Guill earned her degree in Zoology and Chemistry from the University of Texas in 1941. Her extensive volunteering included the Red Cross Bloodmobile, Meals on Wheels, the Republican

Club, and the American Association of University Women Scholarship Committee.

Janice & William Hanna ’58 Scholarship

The Janice & William Hanna ’58 Scholarship was endowed by the Hannas in 1994. After graduating from Texas A&M in 1958 with a degree in Civil Engineering, Bill Hanna began his career with Sunray DX Oil before joining Koch Industries. In 1987, Mr. Hanna became president and chief operating officer of Koch and served as vice chairman from 1999 until his retirement in 2001. He has been a member of the Engineering Advisory Council at Texas A&M since 1990 and has been honored as an Outstanding Engineering Alumnus. The Hannas are supporters of The 12th Man Foundation, Century Club members and members of the A&M Legacy Society.

William M. Hays Jr. ’64 Scholarship

The Williams M. Hays Jr. ’64 Scholarship was endowed by Marmon Mok Architectural Firm in 2005 following the passing of Mr. William Hays. Mr. Hays graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1964. While at Texas A&M, he served as first sergeant and commanding officer of Squadron Eight of the Corps of Cadets. Mr. Hays joined the Marmon Mok Architectural Firm in 1971, leading the Mechanical Engineering department, and was named a partner in 1976. Mr. Hays continued his involvement with Texas A&M by serving on the Chancellor’s Advisory Council and the Department’s Advisory Council. Hays was named a Distinguished Alumni of Texas A&M and Engineer Emeritus for Texas A&M Tau Beta Pi.

Tim Kerlee, Jr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Tim Kerlee Jr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in 2002 by Tim and Janice Kerlee in honor of bonfire victim Timothy Doran Kerlee, Jr. This endowed scholarship is awarded to recipients holding freshman classification and who demonstrate good leadership skills.

The John A. Langston ’12 Scholarship was created in 2003 with proceeds received from the estate of Charlotte Ann Collins Johnson in honor of her uncle, John A. Langston. The Elizabeth & Raymond Marlow ’53 Endowed Scholarship was established by the Marlows in 2005. Mr. Marlow graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M in 1953. After graduation, Mr. Marlow worked at Texas Instruments. In 1973, he established Marlow Industries in Dallas to serve thermo-electric needs of the defense sector. Under his leadership, the organization claimed more than 50 percent of the worldwide market share and led President George H.W. Bush to name Marlow Industries a 1991 recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. At Texas A&M, Mr. Marlow was awarded the Dwight Look College Outstanding Alumni Award by the College of Engineering. Mr. Marlow was also a Member of Distinguished Graduates of the Mechanical Engineering Department and served on the Industry Advisory Council for the department.

Joe B. Mattei ‘53 received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1953. During his time at Texas A&M, he was a Ross Volunteer, served as Deputy Corps Commander of the Corps of Cadets, was a member of the Student Senate, and was Senior Class President. Upon graduation, he served as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. Mr. Mattei worked for 39 years with Exxon Corp. in key engineering, advisory and management positions. The Janet & Thomas Paul ’62 Scholarship was established by Mr. Thomas Paul in 2010. After graduating from Texas A&M with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1962 and serving for two years as a U.S. Army officer, he went to work for Boeing Aircraft Company. In 1966, he joined General Electric and after 31 years, retired as the company’s vice president. Mr. Paul has served on the Mechanical Engineering Development and Advisory Council and the Dwight Look College of Engineering External Advisory and Development Council. This scholarship is awarded each year to a Mechanical Engineering student who is a member of the Corps of Cadets.

Ruby Lee & George Sandars ’60 Scholarship

The Ruby Lee and George Sandars ’60 Scholarship was established in 1999 by Ruby Sandars. Mr. George Sandars graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1960. During his time at Texas A&M, he was a member of the Corps of Cadets and the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band. After leaving Texas A&M, Mr. Sandars went to work for NASA in 1962. After 37 years, he left NASA and moved to Boeing in 2000 until 2005. After leaving Boeing, Mr. Sandars worked for the Computer Science Corporation to define repairs on the NASA aircraft. He retired in 2011. Mr. and Mrs. Sandars hope that their scholarship will give a Texas A&M student a chance to make a difference in engineering and the world.

This scholarship was endowed in 2006 by Mr. Thaddeus “Thad” Sandford. Mr. Sandford graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1962. Mr. Sandford is the vice president of engineering for Boeing Intergrated Defense Systems. He worked for the U.S. Air Force from 1963 to 1989, and has two Legion of Merit awards and three Meritorious Service Medals. The Linda & Ralph Schmidt ’68 Scholarship was established in 2006 by Ralph A. Schmidt. Mr. Schmidt, Texas A&M Class of 1968, parlayed his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering into a successful 36 - year career in the oil refining industry. He is a former vice president and refinery general manager of Clark Refining and Marketing; and a consultant for Stancil & Company, where he served as managing director of Petroplus, a European oil refinery. Schmidt joined Western Refining in 2001 and served as chief operating officer until his retirement in September 2006. Now a cattle rancher and land developer, he continues to serve on the company’s board of directors.

The Dr. Clifford M. Simmang ’36 Memorial Scholarship was endowed by Donald L. Grant in 2006. A 1951 Mechanical Engineering graduate of Texas A&M, Mr. Grant retired from a long and successful career at General Electric. Dr. Simmang earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Science at Texas A&M and was the first person in the state to earn a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (at the University of Texas in Austin). He served as the department head of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University for 20 years.

The Keith R. Slaughter ’49 Scholarship was established by Mr. Keith Slaughter and completed by his sisters, Colleen Slaughter and Erma Jean Phillips, after he passed away in 2003. Mr. Slaughter received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M. After a successful career at Mobil Corporation that spanned 31 years, he retired in 1984 as Project Manager for Offshore Platforms. Most of his career was in the Project Division of Mobil’s Corporate Engineering Department, working on major capital projects, both domestic and foreign.

The Dee & Ted Stephens ’52 Scholarship was established by Mr. Ted Stephens in 1997. Mr. Stephens graduated from Texas A&M in 1952 with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. During his time at Texas A&M, Mr. Stephens served as lieutenant of the Company A Infantry in the Corps of Cadets, member of the Student Senate and Class of ’52 Treasurer for three years. After graduating from Texas A&M, Mr. Stephens served in the Corps of Engineers from 1952-1954 in the Korean War. After that, he was worked as a professional engineer with Air Conditioning Contractor, The Trane Company and Mechanical Contractor. Since then, Mr. Stephens has sold his two businesses and does limited consulting work as a registered Project Engineer in Corpus Christi, where he resides with his wife, Dee.

The Donald H. Winkler Memorial Scholarship was established in 1987 by Linda Winkler in honor of Donald Winkler. A registered professional engineer, Mr. Fowler is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a member of the Society of Experimental Mechanics, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and is a past president of ABET, Inc.
