What is ReStore? A ReStore is a discount home improvement and building supply store operated by Habitat for Humanity. Coshocton County ReStore is located at 1301 Walnut St. and is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds from the ReStore are used to support Habitat’s mission to eliminate poverty housing and to empower families and volunteers to improve lives. The ReStore accepts donations of new, gently-used, and salvaged building materials from individuals, retailers, businesses, manufacturers, contractors and remodelers. ReStore reuses, recycles and resells functional building materials, tools, upholstered furniture and appliances that are in good condition, thereby diverting thousands of tons of usable materials from local landfills. In addition, ReStore offers recycling of ink cartridges, rechargeable batteries, cell phones, and computers. Proceeds from a Habitat for Humanity ReStore provide funding for Habitat for Humanity of Coshocton County’s mission to eliminate sub–standard housing and to help build new homes. All donations are tax deductible and free and easy pickup can be arranged! To make a donation, call the office at 623-2764 or the ReStore at 622-7787.

Imagine Life Without Your Home
COSHOCTON – If you are looking for inspiration or helpful tips for spring home and garden projects, then you won’t want to miss the Habitat for Humanity Home & Lifestyle Show. “We have about 38 exhibitors this year, which is three or four more than what we’ve had in the past,” said Linda Miller, chairperson of the show. “Some of them are new and we’ve even attracted some out of town businesses.” This year’s show will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 9 and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at the Coshocton County Career Center. Admission is free.
“We’ve had about 1,000 people attend in the past and this year, we have a full house of vendors so we are hoping for even more,” Miller said. The exhibitors cover everything from home maintenance to gardening to insurance to even pet care. The seminars planned also address a wide range of topics. Deb Gaumer will speak on the dos and don’ts of gardening in order to get ready to display at the fair at 10 a.m. Saturday. At 11 a.m. Saturday, Paul McHam will discuss the identification and eradication of mold and Tim Kettler will share information on sewer, drain and septic maintenance at 1 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday, Dr. Abdel Albalakosuy, DVM, will speak on the prevention of flea and tick born diseases at 1 p.m. and Chad Guess, D.C. will share his topic, Lifestyle Well-Being at 2:15 p.m. “People really enjoy the seminars we have,” Miller said. She also is excited that more food options will be offered at this year’s show. A pancake breakfast will once again be offered from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday and at noon the restaurant will switch from its breakfast menu to lunch. Sunday also will feature lunch items prepared by the Coshocton Blue Star Mothers. Attendees of the show will be entertained be members of the River View Junior High Choir from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday and have the opportunity to support Relay for Life, which is holding a kick-off event featuring homemade items for sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the nearby Hopewell School. The show also will feature some great raffle and door prizes. Raffle prizes include $300 worth of meat from West Lafayette Village Market and a gas grill from Sears, two arborvitae donated by Kobel’s Landscaping and a fire pit courtesy of Auer Hardware, and door prizes will come from donations made by each of the exhibitors.

“All money raised from the Home & Lifestyle Show is put back into building Habitat homes for those who qualify,” Miller said. Habitat is in the process of finishing up its 12th home in the county and making plans for home number 13, which will be for a veteran. [email protected]
Habitat for Humanity of Coshocton County updateCONTRIBUTED TO THE BEACONHouse #12
Construction on House #12 located at 809 Orange St. is moving right along and should be completed in the summer of 2013. The students of the Career Center completed exterior walls, roof, interior walls, doors, windows, and porches. In February, Clow Water Systems’ employees had a corporate build day and completed much of the siding and dry wall. Clow is looking forward to partnering with Habitat again on future builds. If your business would like to have a corporate build day, please call the Habitat office at (740) 623-2764.
House #13 – Veteran BuildOur next build will be a Veteran Build for which we will be breaking ground in early spring 2013. We are very excited about the prospect of building a home for a qualified veteran. Several Veterans organizations are on board with us including the Blue Star Mothers. If you wish to make a donation in honor of or in memory of someone close to you, we would be honored to have you do that. You may even designate your funds towards a specific part of the house such as a door, a window, shingles, etc.
Women BuildSince our first Women Build last year was such a success, we will be having our second Women Build May 4-11, in conjunction with the Veteran Build. We will be working in teams this year. Each team will have a maximum of 10 women. There is a $150 sponsorship fee per team. Team registration is due March 31 and must be accompanied by the sponsorship fee. If you would like more information or a registration form, please call the Habitat office at (740) 623-2764. It should be a week of fun, and we will be doing a good deed for a deserving family!
Pomerene Center Photography ExhibitThis spring, we are also partnering with the Pomerene Center for the Arts in a photography exhibit titled, “Building Home, Building Hope/Habitat’s View.” The opening will be May 2, at the Pomerene Center. It is open to the public and there is no admission fee.
Seventh Annual Golf ScrambleOur next fund raising event is our annual golf outing, which will be Saturday, July 27, at River Greens Golf Course. It is a shotgun start at 1 p.m. It is a fun event for all involved. The entry fee is $60 per person and includes greens fees for 18 holes, cart, and a meal at the end of the day. The event also includes skins pot, 50/50, poker hand, lottery wreath, and on-course games. Each team is eligible for a $1,000 grand prize drawing. Every team has an equal opportunity to win the grand prize! Save the date and join us! For information, please contact Connie Lahna at 545-6458.

Last year’s Women’s Build was a big success and Habitat for Humanity of Coshocton County is planning another one during the week of May 4-11. The main build day will be May 11. In conjunction with House 13 Veteran Build, the Women’s Build will include women from the community. Interested women are encouraged to form teams of six to 10 people. Team members will be involved in construction, food service, first aid and/or registration on build day. Each team will select a team captain. We are anticipating having teams from the local women’s groups, schools (staff), businesses, and churches as well as interested individuals. There will be a sponsorship fee of $150/team. Registration forms can be obtained by calling the Habitat office (740-623-2764) or they will be available at the welcome table during the Home & Lifestyle Show at the
Career Center. Please talk with your friends, form some teams, and get ready for another fun, exciting day(s) of building hope for our community! For more information, contact Sue Sheck: 622-6364 or [email protected].
Habitat finds veteran familyCONTRIBUTED TO THE BEACON
Habitat for Humanity’s board of directors approved the Grant and Kathy Ford family for the upcoming Habitat for Humanity Veteran Build. Grant is an army veteran who served in Egypt and Israel and the Grants have three children, Dawson, Braiden and Keirstan. Ground breaking is anticipated to begin by the end of March. The build will be located in West Lafayette in the area of East Seventh Street Rear. Habitat’s goal is to raise approximately $70,000 and fundraising has already begun with Habitat’s Women Build teams which are currently forming as well as veteran organizations. The Women Build will take place the week of May 4–11. For information on forming a Women Build team, contact the Habitat office by March 31. Donations also can be made “In Memory or In Honor of” a veteran on Habitat’s website at www.habitatcoshocton.org or make checks payable to Habitat for Humanity of Coshocton and include the veteran’s name. Mail checks to the Habitat Office at 1035 Walnut St., Coshocton, OH 43812. Habitat is also looking for veteran groups or individuals who would like to be involved in the build. Recycle unwanted items at the Home & Lifestyle Show
CONTRIBUTED TO THE BEACON
It’s nearly springtime and time to get rid of all the unwanted stacks of paper that have accumulated in your home or business. Habitat for Humanity is pleased to announce that the Shred-it truck is returning to the Home and Lifestyle Show. Sponsored by Lity’s Scrap Yard and Olde Town Realty, the Shred-it truck will be doing bulk paper shredding on Saturday, March 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the east parking lot of the Coshocton County Career Center. Items accepted for shredding include computer print outs, junk mail, personal documents, business documents and records, financial records or tax documents, medical records, and any white or colored paper. It will not be necessary to remove staples or paper clips before bringing them. Put your documents in a box for easier handling, too. The Coshocton Restore is also sponsoring electronic recycling at the same time. Old cell phones, computers, printers, ink cartridges, and recyclable batteries can be disposed of and recycled. Unfortunately, old

televisions cannot be accepted at this event. For questions about what can be recycled, contact the Restore at 623-2764. Any donations for recycling of paper or electronics will benefit Habitat for Humanity and will be appreciated. Assisting with the collections will be Coshocton County REACT. These volunteers establish the traffic flow for the recycling event and their help is acknowledged gratefully.
