ALL-NEW INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION There’s a reason Malibu rides and drives like a premium sedan. STABILITRAK® ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL Every Malibu is equipped with the StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System to help assist you with directional control of the vehicle in difficult driving conditions. Sensors continually monitor both the path being steered and the direction the car is actually travelling. If StabiliTrak® detects a difference, it selectively applies brake pressure to the appropriate wheel to help direct the car back to the path being steered.

4-WHEEL ANTI-LOCK DISC BRAKES The confidence of a 4-wheel anti-lock disc brake system is standard on every Malibu. Ventilated front discs help cool the brakes and maintain stopping power. An integrated Brake Assist system is designed to modulate situations, reducing stopping distances.

CAPTURES ENERGY DURING DECELERATION.

HOW IT WORKS: USE YOUR MOMENTUM AND DON’T WASTE FUEL eAssistTM works to first capture energy, then release that energy to assist the powertrain – and help save fuel:

• Regenerative braking captures energy normally lost during braking or when coasting off-throttle and converts it into electricity to charge the lithium-ion battery.

• When slowing down, the fuel is cut off and the motor-generator unit continues to spin along with the engine. This provides smooth take-off power when you want to accelerate again.

• The engine automatically shuts off when the car is stopped, while the battery continues to power amenities such as climate control and infotainment systems. When you release the brake pedal, restarting is immediate and seamless.

• Electric power stored in the battery delivers up to a 15 horsepower boost of electric power assistance during heavy acceleration.

Malibu Eco features eAssistTM, an innovative technology created to help increase fuel efficiency. By adding a 115-volt lithium-ion battery and replacing the traditional alternator with a 15 kW motor-generator unit, Malibu Eco’s fuel consumption is rated at 8.1 L/100 km (35 mpg) in the city and it has a highway fuel consumption rating of just 5.3 L/100 km (53 mpg).1

QUICK-READ EFFICIENCY GAUGESMalibu Eco drivers get an instant read on their system status from two full-colour, high-resolution screens – one in the gauge cluster and one in the colour touch-screen radio display. The Power Flow Display indicates which mode eAssistTM is in. There’s also an Eco gauge that tells you when you’re driving in the ideal “green zone.” And the Auto Stop indicator in the tachometer shows when the engine is stopped.

FUEL-EFFICIENT DESIGNIn addition to the wind-cheating styling it shares with the rest of the Malibu family, Malibu Eco features aerodynamic underbody panels that help reduce air turbulence. The bold Malibu Eco grille houses active Aero Grille Shutters that close electronically so air can fl ow around the car, decreasing wind resistance. The shutters open intuitively, when the engine needs air for cooling, using only electricity. To further increase effi ciency, Malibu Eco sports low-rolling resistance tires that reduce friction.

CAREFUL CONSIDERATIONS

10 AIRBAGS All Malibu models feature dual-stage frontal and knee airbags for driver and front passenger, head curtain side-impact airbags for front and rear outboard passengers and front and rear seat-mounted airbags to further help protect outboard passengers in side impacts.

ONSTAR® The safety of OnStar® is standard for six months.2 Should a collision occur, crucial information can be relayed to the OnStar® Centre via OnStar®’s Automatic Crash Response feature. Even if you can’t respond, an OnStar® Advisor can pinpoint your exact position using GPS technology and can request that assistance be sent right away.

FORWARD COLLISION ALERT This all-new collision-prevention system, available on LTZ, features a camera mounted on the windshield that continuously monitors the proximity of the vehicles driving in front of you. Based on your speed and the distance to the vehicle in front of you, a warning sound and visual indicator alerts you to help avoid a potential collision.

LANE DEPARTURE WARNING Available on LTZ, the Lane Departure Warning system is a major step forward in driving safety. Should your Malibu cross a detected lane (above 55 km/h) without signalling fi rst, the system alerts you via an audible chime. An indicator light also fl ashes in the gauge cluster.

IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK The new Malibu has been honoured as a Top Safety Pick – the highest possible rating – by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).1 The 2013 Malibu has been engineered not only to help drivers avoid collisions, but also to help protect occupants if one does occur.
