Competition The 2013 Boise Ice Classic, hosted by the Boise Figure Skating Club, will be heldon April 20, 2013 at Idaho Ice World in Boise, Idaho.

This competition is open to qualified skaters who are registered members of U.S.Figure Skating. This is a non-qualifying competition and will be governed by thecurrent U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook except as modified by this announcement.Please refer to www.usfigureskating.org for current Technical Notification updates.

A test session will also be hosted by the Boise Figure Skating Club on April 19,2013. A Test Application is attached in this announcement.

Entries Entries must be received online through the Boise Ice Classic page at

www.entryeeze.com by March 28, 2013 at midnight. Late entries will beaccepted at the discretion of the chief referee and the Boise Figure Skating Cluband will be subject to a $30 late entry fee. No entries will be accepted after theschedule has been completed.

Eligibility Rules ForParticipants

The competition is open to all registered eligible skaters of U.S. Figure Skating.

Eligibility for entry is governed as of tests passed on or before March 20, 2013 andage as of April 19, 2013. Adult skaters must be age 21 or older. Skaters should beprepared to provide proof of age if asked.

Eligibility for pairs events are governed by the competitor with the highest testpassed.

Skaters may skate at highest level passed OR one level higher BUT not both levelsin the same event during the same competition. UNLESS OTHERWISESPECIFIED IN THIS ANNOUNCEMENT, COMPETITORS MAY ENTER ONECLASS HIGHER THAN THEIR TEST LEVEL AS OF March 20, 2013.

Fees The entry fee for no-test through adult masters will be $80.00 for the first event and$30.00 for each subsequent event entered.

Refunds Refunds will only be given under the following conditions (see U.S. Figure Skatingrule #3040-3047):

1. The event is not held.2. Withdrawal of an entry is made on or before the official deadline of March 28,

2013.

No refunds will be issued for injuries. To withdraw, notify the competition chair as

soon as possible. In any event with only one entry, the skater will be given theoption of withdrawing from the event or to skate as a single entry and be given firstplace according to rule #3045A. In the event of late withdrawals, leaving a singleskater entered in an event, the chief referee may combine events, or the skater willbe offered the option to skate as a single entry, or to withdraw from the event andbe issued a refund.

Practice Ice Reservations for practice ice must be made and paid for at the time of entry.Practice sessions will be held for each day of the competition. Practice ice will be$15 per 30-minute session. Requests for practice ice will be handled through theonline entry process and is a part of your entry form. Sign up forone practicesession per event entered. No music will be played during practice ice.

The Boise Figure Skating Club cannot offer specific times for practice ice until thenumber of competitors and events are known. Once the competition schedule isfinalized by the chief referee, specific practice ice times will be made available tocomplement the competition schedule. At such time, skaters will be able to log intotheir account in www.entryeeze.com and select practice ice times.

After the close of registration and the initial practice ice reservation period,additional practice ice sessions may become available. This will be announcedthrough www.entryeeze.com. Please ensure that the email address submittedduring online entry is accurate in order to receive updates about practice iceavailability and scheduling.

Practice ice may also be sold at the registration desk during the competition on afirst-come, first-serve basis for $20 per each 30 minute session, including drop-ins.There will be no refunds for those who do not appear for their reserved practicesession. Every effort will be made to schedule practice ice on the same day as theevent, but this is not guaranteed.

Music Music must be reproduced on CDs (no CD-RWs). Each CD must contain music foronly one program. Cassette tapes will not be accepted. Clearly label music withthe skaters name, the event, and the time the music plays. Music CDs must beturned in at the time of official registration and will be returned at the conclusion ofthe event. Once turned in, the Boise Figure Skating Club will accept noresponsibility for breakage, damage or loss of CDs, but will take every precaution toensure their safety. All competitors must have an extra copy of their CD availablequickly during the actual competition. Do not use DVD-R or CD/RWs.

Event Judging For Juvenile through Senior (including Open Juvenile) and Adult Gold and Masterslevels, all short program and free skate events will be judged in accordance withthe IJS system. No-Test through Pre-Juvenile Free Skate events will be judged andscored using the IJS system in accordance with Technical Notification 96. All otherevents will be judged using the 6.0 judging system. The Boise FSC reserves theright to use the 6.0 judging system for some events if IJS qualified officials areunavailable.Modified IJS judging consists of element scores and three Program componentmarks: 1) Skating Skill & Transitions; 2) Performance & Execution; 3)Choreography & Interpretation.

PPC Requirements All skaters entering any event to be judged using IJS is required to submit their

Planned Program Content (PPC) with their entry www.entryeeze.com . Revisionsto a skaters PPC will be accepted via EntryEeze thru April 14. Competitors notsubmitting required PPCs at www.entryeeze.com will be required to provide apaper PPC prior to registering and will be subject to a $30 late fee.

Change To Event Entries Changes or additions to event entries after skating orders are posted will bepermitted at the discretion of the chief referee and the chief accountant. If thechanges or additions are permitted, a change fee of $15 per event will be collectedby the Boise Figure Skating Club.

Splitting And CombiningOf Events

The chief referee and Boise Figure Skating Club reserve the right to combineevents for ladies and men as permitted by the current U.S. Figure SkatingRulebook. Events with large numbers of entries may be split into multiple groups.Open juvenile and juvenile events may be combined in the case of a limitednumber of entrants. Events will be split by age for no-test through pre-juvenile andadult. For intermediate through senior free skate and short program, events will besplit by seeding per Rule 2463. Other juvenile through senior events will be split byrandom draw.

Final Rounds No final rounds will be skated. In singles and pairs, the short and free skateprograms will be scored as separate events.

Coaches Registration

And Credentials

In accordance with current rules, all coaches participating in this event must be

registered with U.S. Figure Skating. For more information on the registrationprocess, please visit www.usfigureskating.org. The Boise Figure Skating Club willprovide all registered coaches with a credential. Every coach in attendance will berequired to check in at the registration desk and must show a picture I.D. to receivetheir credential. The Boise Figure Skating Club strongly recommends that coachesalso bring any registration confirmation materials. Coaches must wear their badgeat all times when coaching skaters at rink side. Ice monitors will be instructed toensure that any coach standing at rink side has his or her credential.

Awards Each group will receive awards immediately following the posting of results for theevent.

Medals will be given to the top four places of each event.

Liability Skaters, parents and coaches are encouraged to read the U.S. Figure SkatingRulebook regarding the liability of the Boise Figure Skating Club, Idaho Ice World,and U.S. Figure Skating. Clicking on the applicable box on the online entry form will

indicate that entrant has read and agree to such statement of liability.

Registration The official registration desk will be located at the lobby of Idaho Ice World.Registration will be open one hour before the first competitive event. All skaters arerequired to register 60 minutes before their scheduled event. Music CDs must beturned in at the time of registration.

Admission No admission will be charged. All events are open to spectators.

Facilities Idaho Ice World maintains two adjacent indoor ice surfaces. Measurements are 85'x 200', with slightly-rounded corners. Idaho Ice World is located at 7072 S.Eisenman Road, Boise, ID 83716 and has within its building a number of dressingrooms, a restaurant, common area seating, and stadium seating in the main rink.

The rink is cold so please remind friends and loved ones to dress warmly and bringa blanket.

Official Notices An official bulletin board will be maintained at Idaho Ice World. The official scheduleshowing starting times for each event and the draw will be posted on the bulletinboard. Skaters mustbe in the rink and ready to skate 60 minutes before their event is scheduled tobegin. Events will not be delayed for skaters who arrive late.

NONQUALIFYING COMPETITION SHOWCASE GUIDELINES

EVENTS:Singles events are:1. Light Entertainment: Showcase program emphasizing such choreographic expressive qualities such

as comedy, love and mime while incorporating skating skills. Music selected for light entertainment might

be: Circ Du Solei, Annie Get your Gun, Sound of Music, Grease and Frank Sinatra. Music may be fromseveral musical genres as: Contemporary Classical, Broadway, Pop and /or New Age (these are onlyexamples). Props and Scenery ARE permitted.

2.Interpretive/Extemporaneous Improvisation: A performance choreographed by the competitor,unaccompanied and unassisted, to music supplied by the Theatrical Skating Committee. The music willbe played during a 30-minute off-ice session and twice during a warm-up on ice prior to performance.Skaters after the warm up will go backto a room, with no music being played. All competitors willinterpret the same music.

3. Artistic: Showcase program utilizing emotional qualities from either dramatic or light entertainmentspecifically or a combination of both. Skater will use their skating skills to express their musical

interpretation. Music selected for an artistic program might be: Phantom of the Opera, Grease, AdeleMichael Jackson or Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Music may be from several musical genres such as:20th Century Classical Music, Pop, Broadway, Ethnic, Baroque, Romantic, New Age and Films (these areonly examples). NOProps of any kind are allowed in Artistic events. (can use as qualifier forNational Showcase)

Skaters may enter any or all of these singles events for which they are qualified by test level. Skaterscannot skate in different levels of the same event (example: event-Light Entertainment Level Junior skaterwould not be allowed to skate Light Entertainment Junior and Senior).

COSTUMES:1. Costuming and make-up for showcase/artistic/theatrical/interpretive skating programs should enhance

the feeling created by the performance, and reflect the meaning of the story or theme.2. Costumes rules for free skate do not apply forshowcase/artistic/theatrical/interpretive skating.

Ornaments and hair accessories must be secure.3. No bobby-pins, feathers, hair accessories, or anything else that may fall to the ice and be hazardous to

the skaters are allowed. 0.1 deduction will be taken.

TIMING:Timing will begin with the first purposeful movement of any competitor. For performances that are over orunder the time allotment, standard time deductions will apply as per U.S. Figure Skatings current rulebookTiming will cease when the skater comes to a complete stop.

SCENERY/PROPS WHEN ALLOWEDProps and scenery must be placed and removed by the competitor unaidedwithin one minute total on and off.Anyone not skating is not allowed to step on the ice.

The use of scenery and/or props is not mandatory. All scenery will be portable and not require any mechanical means for transportation (i.e. forklift, etc) its

movement will be the responsibility of the skater or teams.

For insurance reasons no propulsion devices will be permitted. This includes items such as cannons aswell as trampolines.

The use of smoke, fire, liquids, live animals, feathers, bubble machines or any substance that mayharm the ice surface and/or skaters is not permitted.

No mirrors or glass of any kind is allowed on the ice. TRAMPOLINES OR OTHER SUCH APPARATUS USED TO ASSIST SKATERS JUMPING INTO THE

AIR IS NOT PERMITTED. A 0.2 deduction will be taken

There will be no countdown of timing for single skaters or duets

If a competitor has any doubt concerning the safety of his/her number, theChief Referee should be consulted.

SCENERY BREAK DOWNAt the completion of the performance when removing the props from the ice the skaters may not step off theice. A 0.2 deduction will be taken.

A 0.2 deduction will be assessed by the referee against each judges mark for each five seconds in excess othe time allowed for the performance, for handling props and scenery and for scenery assistance.

SPECIFICS:A. There is no minimum time requirement for any event.

B. Events will not be segregated by gender.C. There will be a 0.2 deduction for each 5 seconds in excess of the maximum performance and prop

placement times.

D. Timing starts with the first purposeful motion of the body and ends when motion stops.E. Spotlights and curtains are not required for showcase events at non-qualifying

competitions.

Skaters representing another governing body must meet that bodys closest possible equivalent to thespecified U.S. Figure Skating test requirement. The referees decision will be final.

Basic Skills Competition

Competition The Basic Skills competition, hosted by the Boise Figure Skating Club, will be held onApril 20, 2013 at Idaho Ice World in Boise, Idaho.

A test session will also be hosted by the Boise Figure Skating Club on April 19, 2013.A Test Application is attached in this announcement.

Eligibility Rules For

Participants

The competition is open to ALL skaters who are current eligible (ER 1.00) members ofeither the Basic Skills Program and/or are full members of U.S. Figure Skating. To beeligible, skaters must have submitted a membership application or be a member ingood standing. Members of other organizations are eligible to compete but must beregistered with the Idaho Ice Worlds or Boise Figure Skating Clubs Basic Skills

Program/Club or any other Basic Skills Program/Club.

Eligibility will be based on skill level as of March 28, 2013 and age as of April 18, 2013.All Snowplow Sam and Basic Skills 1-8 skaters must skate at highest level passed orone level higher and NO official U.S. Figure Skating tests may have been passedincluding MIF or individual dances.

For the Free Skate 1-6, Test Track and Well Balanced levels, eligibility will be basedonly upon highest free skate test level passed (moves in the field test level will notdetermine skaters competitive level.) Skaters may skate at highest level passed ORone level higher BUT not both levels in the same event during the same competition.

It is very important to the success of the competition that skaters are placed in thecorrect divisions. If, for whatever reason, the Local Organizing Committee discoversthat a skater has been placed in a category that is below their class level, the chairmanand referee will have the option to move the skater into the proper division, even if thishas to be done the day of the competition. This will ensure that every event is as fairas possible to the competitors. Please be sure to check for the director/instructorssignature confirming the level of the skater.

Fees The entry fee for the basic skills competition is $55.00 for the first event and $20.00 foreach subsequent event.

The Boise Figure Skating Club is offering the basic elements events for SnowplowSam through Basic 8 and compulsory events for free skate 1-6 at a discounted rate of$15.00 either as a first and only event or as a second event entered.

SYNCHRONIZED SKATING EVENT

The beginner competition program is also a part of the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills program. The beginner competition program

is for Basic Skills level skaters who are interested in a first competition or "team" experience, taking the Synchro 1-4 badges one step

further. Beginner teams compete at Basic Skills competitions and nonqualifying synchronized skating competitions around thecountry.

ELIGIBILITY RULES: All skaters on the team must either be full U.S. Figure Skating members or members of the U.S. Figure

Skating Basic Skills program. The team may choose to represent a U.S. Figure Skating club or their Basic Skills Program/Club.

Members of other organizations are eligible to compete, but must be registered with the host Basic Skills Program/Club or any other

Basic Skills Program/Club of their choice. In order for the team to be eligible for this event, no skaters on the team may have passedhigher than the preliminary test in any discipline.

ARTISTIC/SHOWCASEEVENTSBASIC 1 FREESKATE 6

Competition Format:

Artistic/Showcase events are open to skaters in Basic, Free Skate, and Adult. Groups will be divided bynumber of entries and ages if possible. Skaters must enter at the same level as their free skate event. If afree skate event is not being entered, skaters must enter at their current test level or one level higher.

Vocal music is permitted.

Categories include:

Showcase:(Light)

Skaters will be judged on musical interpretation and feeling, expression, and how the skating relates tothe music. Show costumes are permitted, as long as they do not touch or drag on the ice. Props andscenery must be placed and removed by unaided competitors within one minute.

The music may be vocal and/or instrumental. Showcase is intended as an event to develop andenhance the qualities of original choreography, general showmanship, and entertainment value. Therewill not be separate events for light entertainment and dramatic showcases.

Artistic:(Dramatic)

This event is for routines of a more serious or dramatic nature. This event will be skated as a rhythmicinterpretation to the music of the skaters choice. Costumes must be more conservative than theshowcase category and should be compatible with the theme and mood of the music.

No props (including hand held) are allowed. The focus should be on the choreography andinterpretation of the music and theme. Technical difficulty of jumps and spins will be given no weight inthe marks. Vocal music is permitted. Program duration will be the same as the showcase event.

Judging Rules:

6.0 Judging will be used. Deductions will be made for skaters including technical elements not permitted inthe event description. A .2 deduction will be assessed by the referee against each judges mark for eachfive seconds in excess of the time allowed for the performance, for handling props and scenery and forscenery assistance.

INTERPRETIVE PROGRAM

Competition Format:

The Organizing Committee must pre-select and edit musical choices appropriate for these events. Duringwarm-up skaters will hear selection of music twice. Following the warm-up all skaters except for the first skaterwill be escorted to a soundproof locker room or another area of the arena. The first skater will hear the musicone more time and then perform a program to the music. As each skater performs the next skater in line will be

allowed to hear the music for the third time before they perform to the music. The listening skater will not beallowed to view the performing skater.

Levels:

Levels should be broken by ability with ages divided appropriately.

Judging Rules:

Skaters are judged on originality, pattern, technical (the ability to include jumps and spins) and musicinterpretation/expression. Spins and jumps performed must be appropriate to competition level.

Time:

Music Duration Free Skate 1-6: 1:15

Coaching:

There is to be no instruction allowed during this event from coaches, parents, or fellow skaters. Staging areamust be kept clear except for ice monitor and listening competitor.
