YMCA Camp Eberhart is located five miles west of Three Rivers. Road, Buchanan, was established in 1968. The origi-nal vineyard was planted with 27 different grape vari-eties placed deep in the side of a hill seven miles from Lake Michigan. The winery was constructed from weathered lumber from an 1863 barn. First in the Midwest to plant European vinifera grape variet-ies, extensive experimentation identified which were hardy enough to withstand Michigan’s roller-coaster climate. Today, with 55 acres of estate-grown grapes and 400 acres of local produce from neighbor grow-ers, the original 2,000-gallon output of wine grew to more than 150,000 gallons annually.
