Welcome to BAR-E-L and our Bull & Female Sale.

We always look forward to sale day as we measure our efforts with your impression.

There has been a lot of documented thoughts regarding the shrinking size of the world’s cowherd, the demand for protein

(beef), rising food costs, leading to and all the positives for being in the ranching business.

We think the industry is just starting to gain the momentum toward profits we haven’t seen before. Superior genetics and

inventory will move you and your operation in the right direction.

It’s true that sire selection is of huge importance to any cow outfit, we place a big emphasis on the female. We continue to

pressure the cowherd for soundness, mothering ability, milk, udder quality and longevity.

Although we look at the EPD’s, I think over time they have been misleading and caused cattlemen to over emphasize single trait

selection. To us, there is no substitute for ‘the eye of a cowboy’!

In the past we have used carcass evaluation through ultrasound on replacement heifers and sire selection, for the first time it

will be provided to you for this bull sale line-up. This data will be available online prior to the sale and on sale day.

The bulls are developed for their long term value. They are fed so they express their muscle development and performance

without adding excess fat jeopardizing fertility or soundness.

We think you will like this sale offering. There are differences in the pens, and yet they are very similar in terms of their

thickness, hair coats, and doing ability. They will be ready to go to work come breeding season.

The bulls are fertility tested and are guaranteed breeders. The females are selected from the heart of the replacement pen and

represent a cross section of the sires we use.

The bull bulls can be left at BAR-E-L through March and we make delivery of your purchases. This is usually completed in

April all at ‘no cost to you’, in western Canada or nearest port of entry to the U.S.A.

Calving Ease (CE)Calving Ease is often related to birth weight of a bull. This is

partly true but there are other factors that influence calving ease.

The dam and her management are at least 50% of calving ease.

Also, the consistency of the birth weights of the sire and dam

should be considered. Nutrition, gestation and environment all

influence birth weight. We have rated each bull in the sale based

on all the information we have.

We first saw FAT TONY at the National Western Stock Show in Denver where he was Grand Champion Bull in 2011. FAT TONY is an attractive, sound made bull with big top, thick quarter and excellent scrotal development on his sons. We used FAT TONY mainly on heifers - 100% unassisted births. His calves have performed well and are some of the best in this sale.
