    Picture C:

    - Space to write paragraph I(t is your interpretation, no right or wrong answer if it can be justified correctly):

    - - I connect this poem mostly with the picture C. as it conveys as it conveys a slightly depressed

feeling, except for the line in conclusion where it states Strangers do not live hereanymore.

Task Two: time advised 30 mins

Using the FLAP + C strategy, respond to the following:

Complete the table below with sentences in short answers and quotes from the text to

    support your points.

    Form:

    1. What FORM did she select towrite in?2. Why do you think this FORM

    was selected?

(e xpository, analytical essay, creative short story, imaginative, descriptive, personal, reflective, informative, narrative)

She chose to write her piece in the form of a poem.

I think she decided to write her piece in the form of poetry asusing this kind of descriptive language really connects herwith her readers.

Language:3. What kind of LANGUAGE did

the author use?4. Decide why it is appropriate to

the chosen form and audience?5. Find examples of the language

    choices made by the author.

(formal register/language for an essay, informal register as it is written from ateenagers perspective) casual language/slang humorous, descriptive, tension, imagery

    The author used descriptive language.

This kind of language is appropriate for her chosen form of writing as it helps to snatch her readers attention, as well asencourage them to feel involved.

This author uses formal, but emotive, language such asbeauty in the broken, amidst the shards of glass andscattered concrete

Audience:6. Who is the AUDIENCE for this

piece of writing?7. How does the author attempt to

    communicate with the audience?

    (teenagers, parents, teachers family etc.)

The descriptive language and theme of this poem leads me to

believe that it is directed at teenagers and adults, especiallyseem children might not understand what this poem is reallyabout.

This poem attempts to communicate with the audience, using descriptive language and the enticing theme, BrokenBeautiful that many would likely relate to. It is written in firstperson using terms such as we. This also enhances thereaders experience and makes them feel more involved.

Purpose:8. What is the PURPOSE for this

    piece of writing?

(to entertain, to inform, to educate, toexplain, to recall etc.)

The authors purpose of this piece of writing is entertain andhold the audiences attention captive.

Context:9. What ideas from the Future

Worlds CONTEXT can be foundin this piece of writing?

In the concluding line it says that strangers do not live hereanymore. This implies that in the future people might not bestrangers, or it could simply mean that her life wouldnt be soimpersonal in the future.

Task Three: time advised 30 mins

Tropfest is a short film competition which requires that entries include a particular "signature item" or action to ensure that they are unique and are made specifically for the festival. In 2013 the signatureitem was BALLOON. All the films either feature a balloon or are metaphorically about a person's

balloon being burst (this is the case at the end of each or most of the films).

Watch the winning entry on LMS titled Weve all been there produced and directed by NicholasClifford (former student of Albury High school).

The short film tells the story of Jess who has to come up with $800 or lose her house. A flat tyreleaves Joan stranded in the middle of nowhere. Matt needs a job. All these stories are brought together as what goes around comes around and they impact each other in a way they couldnt imagine.

Task: Imagine you are Nicholas Clifford. You have been asked to write a statement of explanation for

the film. It should be 150-300 words in length. Use FLAP+C to help you and you may need to watchthe short film again:

The form I selected to create my piece , Tropfest, was that of a short film. I chose this formbecause it was the most effective way to hold the audi ences attention.

I have explored the life of a young, fictional, broke, pregnant woman named Jess usingcasual language in the appropriate form of first person. I have chosen first person because

My piece is directed at an older audience as marriage partners can probably relate better tomy main idea. I have attempted to communicate with the audience by choosing this topic, seem it encourages my viewers to become emotional.

    My purpose was to

*The poem, Broken Beautiful, is part of a project called poetica in Christchurchwhere public wall spaces are given over to poetry. Dunne's poem is about the recentearthquakes that devastated the New Zealand city and the way catastrophic eventscan bring people together.
