We’re growing! The Twin Cities are known for the quality of the region’s musical ensembles.

Soon the first shovels will break ground on a dream come true—a new concert hall for the community. Scheduled to open in the spring of 2015, the new 1,100 seat concert hall will be acoustically magnificent and built in the tradi-tion of the great halls of Vienna, Amsterdam and london.

The Arts Partners—The Ordway, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Opera and The Schubert Club—will be able to present more

music, theater, opera, dance and other perform-ing arts. Other music organizations will also be able to use the new concert hall. The Ordway’s mission to host, present and create performing arts and educational programs will be able to expand by an additional 30,000 K-12 students through performing arts classrooms.

You help make all of this possible—Thank You!

Prepare to be awestruck, again.

A tragedy of passion and beauty—based on Puccini’s opera Madame Butterfly—Miss Saigon is set during the Vietnam war. Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg (Les Misérables) created another absolute masterpiece in Miss Saigon. like Les Mis, Miss Saigon presents an array of inspiring music and lyrics which appeal to all our senses and emotions.

Miss Saigon follows the love story between a young girl, Kim, and an American GI, Chris. Years after leaving Vietnam, Chris discovers his war bride Kim is still alive and is now raising his son. He returns to Saigon to find her, but with the Viet Cong closing in on the city and other ties at home binding him, Chris is forced to make some large decisions before leaving Vietnam again.

See what time Magazine exclaims is “A don’t miss theatre event! The #1 Broadway musical of the year.” Winner of the 2012 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, the gershwins’ Porgy and Bess is hitting the road in a stunning and stirring new staging, including such legendary songs as “Summertime,” “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” and “I Got Plenty o’ Nuttin’.” the gershwins’ Porgy and Bess features one of Broadway’s most accomplished creative teams, led by Tony-nominated direc-tor Diane Paulus (hair), Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-lori Parks (topdog/underdog), and two-time Obie Award-winning composer Diedre l. Murray (running Man), bringing George and Ira Gershwin’s legendary masterwork to the stage for the first time in more than 35 years.Praised by the New Yorker as “A great achievement!” and hailed by the associated Press as “a gorgeous version of the Gershwin masterpiece,” the classic story of the gershwins’ Porgy and Bess is set in Charles-ton’s fabled Catfish Row, where the beautiful Bess struggles to break free from her scandalous past, and the only one who can rescue her is the crippled but courageous Porgy. Threatened by her formidable former lover Crown, and the seductive enticements of the colorful troublemaker Sportin’ life, Porgy and Bess’ relationship evolves into a deep romance that triumphs as one of theater’s most exhilarating love stories.

Singer-songwriters lizz Wright and Raul Midón join forces to present an intoxicating collection of contemporary spirituals that deftly span the genres of jazz, R&B, soul and gospel. On the heels of a successful European tour, the two masters of song share their effortlessly magnetic stage presence with the Ordway audience.

Raul Midón has recorded three major label records: “State of Mind,” “A World Within A World” and “Synthesis.” He has been fea-tured in documentaries including the acclaimed Bill Withers biopic “Still Bill,” the Herbie Hancock documentary “Possibilities,” and a film on the life of legendary producer Arif Mardin “All My Friends Are Here,” in which he declares that Midón is the only artist he ever signed to a label. His musical collaborators include Jason Mraz, Marcus Miller, and Roberta Flack. Deemed an “eclectic adventurist” by People Magazine, Midón contributes something honest and unpredictable to the musical landscape.

lizz Wright has been the recipient of nonstop critical acclaim and ever-increasing audiences since her Verve debut “Salt” in 2003. “In all of my adventures in music, I’ve been drawn in by sparks of the familiar inside of the unfamiliar. For example, when I first heard what people were calling the blues, I was taken aback, because I had heard that sound all my life. That was how the mothers sang in church.”

Wright continues her genre-defying journey with her latest album “Fellowship,” a nod to her roots in gospel on the one hand and her gospel of eclecticism on the other.

Conceived from vocalist Ravid Kahalani’s vision, Yemen Blues mixes music of Yemen and West Africa with contemporary grooves from funk to mambo and the deep soul of old chants. Conjuring up a rich and diverse aural palette with the use of percussion, oud, horns, and strings, Yemen Blues coexists in both the past and present, at once timeless and modern. The collective is a true collaboration of top master musicians, its core including Ravid Kahalani, Omer Avital, Itamar Doari, Rony Iwryn, and Itamar Borochov.

Yemen Blues’ myriad of influences carry over on stage, where the ensemble navigates from the boisterous to the romantic, from joyous celebration to anguished balladry. Horns fire off emphatically, percussion adds deep rhythmic textures, and the enchanting oud strums out subtle melodies. Frankly, Yemen Blues is one of the most gripping and fun live bands in contem-porary music today.

LaDySMItHBLaCK MaMBaZO For more than fifty years, the voices of ladysmith Black Mambazo have married the intricate rhythms and harmonies of their native South African musical traditions to the sounds and sentiments of Christian gospel music. The result is a musical and spiritual alchemy that has touched a worldwide audience representing every corner of the religious, cultural and ethnic landscape. Their musical efforts throughout the past four decades have garnered praise and accolades within the recording industry, but also solidified their identity as a cultural force to be reckoned with.

In the mid-1980s, Paul Simon visited South Africa and incorpo-rated Black Mambazo’s rich tenor/alto/bass harmonies into his “Graceland” album—a landmark 1986 recording that was consid-ered seminal in introducing world music to mainstream audiences. “Graceland” won many awards including the Grammy® Award for Best Album of the Year. A year later, Simon produced Black Mamba-zo’s first U.S. release, “Shaka Zulu,” which won the Grammy Award in 1988 for Best Traditional Folk Album. Since then, and in total, the group has received sixteen Grammy Award Nominations and three Grammy Award wins.

MarIa de BarrOSCape Verdean chanteuse Maria de Barros invites us into her culture’s joyful musical tradition. She sings about the beauty of Cabo Verde and a longing for the island, and her songs are filled with stories of love and romance. “The stories told in the songs are poetic descriptions of real and profound human emotions that are not just felt by Cabo Verdeans, but by the rest of the world,” she says.

Five-time Grammy® nominee Cesaria Evora, the “bare-foot diva,” helped to place the music of Cabo Verde on U.S. audiences’ musical map. Evora’s ongoing encourage-ment led to her god-daughter Maria fashioning her own lively and vivacious interpretation of Cabo Verdean music. Together, Evora, the Queen of the Mornas, and Maria de Barros, the Queen of the Coladeiras, paint a complete musical picture of this tradition-rich land.
