The Camper Cabins at Paint Creek State Park are convenient, affordable and just plain cute. They sleep four, offer a fridge, microwave and gas grill, and are located on wooded sites close to campground amenities, including a showerhouse with flush restrooms.

Relax in a Cottage Lake Hope State Park offers various cottage types in scenic settings. Besides familiar two-bedroom vacation cottages, the park also has unique two-bedroom and three-bedroom cottages with wood-burning fireplaces. Laurel Lodge sleeps groups of up to 24 with bunk rooms. Punderson State Park invites guests to make themselves at home in two-bedroom vacation cottages with a fully-equipped kitchen, living room, dining area and screened porch. Cottage guests can also enjoy the elegant Punderson Manor and golf course, located nearby.

Pike Lake State Park provides choices for quaint cottages nestled in a gorgeous forest setting. Basic cottages have open floor plans for sleeping, dining and socializing, while two-bedroom vacation cottages offer a bit more privacy. The dorm-style Group Lodge sleeps up to 16.

Camp With Your Gear Make Buck Creek State Parks your home base for day trips to nearby nature preserves, U.S. Air Force museum, historic Clifton Mill and local bike trails. Back at the park, play disc golf, visit the frontier-era Crabill House, hike the lakeshore and chill at the beach.

Shawnee State Park’s comfortable campground has a wilderness feel. Pretty little lakes are perfect for swimming and fishing, and the nature center has engaging displays and programs. Want a little luxury? Sneak away to the lodge for a great meal or a round of golf. When you plan your trip to Findley State Park, come prepared for outdoor fun. Bring the Frisbee® for a round of disc golf, pack bikes and helmets for a spin on the mountain bike trail and rent a canoe or a two-person “couples” kayak for a paddle around the lake.

Camp Hassle-Free in a Getaway Rental Cross a cozy cabin with an airy tent and you get a Cabent, only available at South Bass Island State Park. There’s room for six with comfy bunks, a small kitchen, bathroom with shower and furnished living area. The stay is half the fun of your Lake Erie Island adventure! Fully furnished Cedar Cabins at Lake Loramie State Park give guests a taste of lakeshore living. Kids love the loft, and grown-ups appreciate the amenities-- from the well-equipped kitchen and complete bathroom, to the breezy lakefront porch with gas grill.

Where to Go

Leave No TraceWe encourage you to practice Leave No Trace when visiting your park or any outdoor trail or area. It is easy to do and allows others to enjoy the park, including animals that call it home.

The Leave No Trace Seven Principles are:• Plan Ahead and Prepare• Travel and Camp on Durable

Surfaces• Dispose of Waste Properly• Leave What You Find• Minimize Campfire Impacts• Respect Wildlife• Be Considerate of Other Visitors

Pedal Around• With 14 miles of new mountain bike trails, pedal pushers at Deer Creek can

hop on a trail and ride to the campground, lodge or cottage area.

• Spanning four counties and fifty miles, the Little Miami paved trail takes bikers from Springfield to Cincinnati. The joy is in the journey!

• Van Buren’s six-mile mountain bike trail offers a good mix of gentle terrain for novices and tricky challenge spots for experienced riders.

• The five miles of fast and twisty mountain bike trails at East Fork seems even longer, with color-coded loops to tailor your ride.

• Is it a bike or a boat? Rent an aqua cycle at Alum Creek or Deer Creek, pedal around the lake and decide for yourself!

Make a Splash• Alum Creek Sailing Association offers

lessons for newbies, while the marina rents everything from ski boats to canoes and fishing craft.

• What could be more relaxing than a pontoon cruise on the lake at Rocky Fork? Pack a cooler and fishing gear, rent a boat and enjoy the good life!

• Your day on Mosquito Lake: get food and supplies at the marina; rent a boat and ride the waves; catch a free concert or fun event.

• Two ski zones, countless coves, marinas that rent speed boats, jet skis, pontoons and canoes make Salt Fork Lake perfect for everyone!

• At 14,000 acres, Pymatuning Lake offers plenty of choices for laid-back boating. Rentals abound for campers and cottage guests.

Enjoy the View• Get a bird’s-eye view of the magnificent Hocking Hills from rim

trails at Cantwell Cliffs and Conkles Hollow Nature Preserve.

• Riverside or rim? Hike both, and behold the Little Miami River Gorge from trails at John Bryan and Clifton Gorge Nature Preserve.

• Mohican’s hemlock-studded Clearfork Gorge can be admired by hiking along the forest trails, or floating down the river in an inner-tube.

• Perched in Ohio’s Little Smokies above the winding Ohio River, Shawnee offers vistas from the lodge and golf course, as well as the trails.

• Imagine you’re keeping Lake Erie sailors safe as you scan the horizon from the observation deck of the Marblehead Lighthouse, built circa 1822.

Entertain the Family • Maumee Bay: Ride bikes or push strollers on paved trails, flit to

the butterfly gazebo, bounce in a banana boat, hit the links or lounge.

• Hueston Woods: Hunt fossils, wander the pioneer farm and get active with horse rentals, boat rentals, disc golf, mini golf and paintball.

• Malabar Farm: Experience the sights and sounds of a real farm plus the glamour of the 1940s, when celebrities stayed and played here.

• Wingfoot Lake: The perfect picnic spot for families that love to play, the park features disc golf, bocce ball, mini golf, volleyball, a dog park and more.

• Salt Fork: Mix adventure and comfort with pampering at the lodge, followed by a hike into the woods to discover historic Kennedy Stone House.

What to Do

For more great ideas visit us online www.ohiostateparks.org

Welcome to Burr OakBurr Oak is back and better than ever. After a brief hiatus, the lodge has reopened with bigger, remodeled guest rooms, a new nature center and nearby outdoor recreation area for family fun. Look for more park improvements in the future.

Destination DiningA new twist: The newly rebuilt Lake Hope Dining Lodge is now open and serving real pit barbeque and hickory-smoked fare to rave reviews.

A delicious tradition: The Malabar Farm Restaurant offers farm-raised food in a style inspired by French country cooking.

We’re Pet Friendly Dogs can romp off-leash at Alum Creek, Grand Lake St. Marys, Hueston Woods, Mosquito Lake, Portage Lakes, Salt Fork and Wingfoot Lake dog parks, then relax with you in select cottages or lodge rooms, or at designated pet camping sites.

Spooky Stuff Legends abound in our state parks and so do spooky stories about things going bump in the night at Punderson Manor, Beaver Creek and Lake Hope. Spirited events for the curious include night haunts at Malabar Farm and historic lantern tours at Hocking Hills.

Looking for Star Power? Observatories at John Bryan and Portage Lakes host astronomy programs for campers, while Stonelick’s beach and Burr Oak’s group camp are

designated dark-sky sites where stargazers gather. Caesar Creek and Hocking Hills offer meteor shower programs in August.

How About Paddle Power! Now that Dillon has become a hot new venue for scholastic rowing regattas, park visitors are welcome to enjoy the spectacle as promising young crew teams from around the Midwest gather to compete on Dillon Reservoir’s glassy waters.

Discover a Hidden Gem Looking for a great campground that’s not too crowded? If Salt Fork is packed, Wolf Run has nice campsites, camper cabins and a pretty lake for swimming, boating and fishing. Ditto for Barkcamp, which also has mini golf, an archery range and historic barn.

More Gems If Hocking Hills is full, try Tar Hollow, with tons of forest trails, a lovely little lake and a fun general store with game room and mini golf. Another option is Scioto Trail, with a wading beach, shady sites, camper cabins to rent and a secluded tent camp.

Expert Tips

Black bear

Bears are making a comeback in Ohio with occasional sightings at Hocking Hills, Lake Hope and Shawnee. Enjoy them from a distance.

Ruby-throated hummingbird

Look for a blur of color hovering near blooming plants or try hand-feeding at Lake Hope’s Nature Center.

Gartersnake

If you see a snake slithering by or sunning on a rock don’t panic – just step aside. Most snakes in Ohio are harmless and shy unless provoked.

Wildlife watching is one of life’s greatest pleasures, and a great thrill for kids. Ohio State Parks are great places to observe Ohio’s fauna in the woods and on the water.
