A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND RACHEL BRYSON FOR HER OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE AND TO CONGRATULATE HER UPON BEING NAMED A 2013 PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD DISTINGUISHED FINALIST AND EXTEND BEST WISHES FOR HER CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to pause in their deliberations to honor Rachel Bryson for receiving a 2013 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and
Whereas, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards represents the United States’ largest youth recognition program based solely on volunteer service; and
Whereas, the program judges recognize Distinguished Finalists for their impressive community service activities and present each of the winners with an engraved bronze medallion; and
Whereas, in receiving this award, Rachel Bryson, an admired resident of Lyman and a homeschooled senior, has achieved national recognition for her exemplary volunteer service; and
Whereas, this seventeenyearold, a member of the YMCA of GreenvilleEastside, earned the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award by creating a halfmile walking track for the Southeastern Children’s Home, a foster care group home for teenagers with special needs; and
Whereas, to complete the project, she secured donations of mulch, ground cover, a swing, and benches, and she recruited and organized a group of volunteers to plant and spread the mulch; and
Whereas, in addition, she collected three thousand dollars in donations for the home’s annual benefit auction; and
Whereas, the success of the State of South Carolina, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young people like Rachel Bryson who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly appreciate the sacrificial contribution that Rachel Bryson has made to her community and look to hear of her continued accomplishments in the future. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and commend Rachel Bryson for her outstanding community service and congratulate her upon being named a 2013 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Distinguished Finalist and extend best wishes for her continued success and happiness.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Rachel Bryson.
