2013-14 Year-End Report
“You guys are changing the world!” ~ Texas Winds audience member
Dear Friends,
Thank you for your continuing interest and commitment to Texas Winds. Your generosity is essential to the success of our mission.
Our 29th year saw the development of the Ihor Koszman Concerts for Hospice, reaching 848 individuals. In addition, programs for seniors, hospital patients, and
children reached 56,152 North Texas residents. Our Spring Fundraising Event brought everyone to their feet with rousing cheers and applause.
One concert at a time, we bring inspiration, joy and healing through music to our special audiences - the lonely, isolated and forgotten.
I am immensely grateful for your support, which makes the work of our musicians possible.

Texas Winds Musicians 2013-14 Season
Community Service Concerts given by Jesuit College
Preparatory School Seniors
Jesuit seniors performed 58 concerts for residents in nursing and memory care facilities this school year. Not only did they give to their audiences by playing Sousa marches, but they also learned about a part of our society that is often forgotten.
It was truly a gift to me to be able to work with these
spirited and enthusiastic young men. I looked forward to beginning my Wednesday mornings with “The Star-Spangled Banner” and other uplifting music. I already miss them, but am looking forward to working with a new group from Jesuit this fall.

"Each visit I end up telling myself - ‘This is the absolute best ever’ until the next
visit comes. Today... I was once again so moved by the displays of emotion upon the faces of our patients. It's as though some deep internal chord was touched... What a spectacular gift - not only for our
patients but for those of us that witnessed it. Thank you!"

“The concert Alison Reed gave here at the Sammons Cancer Center on
10 April was one of the most beautiful performances we have seen. The
first two venues were in our Cancer Treatment waiting rooms. Many of the
listeners were either receiving news of their diagnosis or receiving chemo
treatments. All of the patients, their family and friends, and our staff were
visibly moved.
The third and final venue was on the mezzanine of the Sammons Cancer
Center. All within hearing were just as visibly touched as those in the
treatment areas. One man approached Alison and told her that he really
appreciated her playing a certain song. He asked if she would play it
again, which she did, of course. As she played the song for him he sat
there and sobbed the whole time. It seems that his wife had died of
cancer about 18 months ago. He had recently been diagnosed with the
same type of cancer. The song Alison played just flooded him with
innumerable pleasant memories of him and his wife together.
We are so grateful whenever the Texas Winds perform on our campus. The
response is always heartfelt appreciation. A lady approached me as
Alison was departing and stated, ‘These musicians that... play for us - are
not human - they are angels.’ With musicians like Alison Reed performing I
whole heartedly agree with that statement.
Thank you, Texas Winds Musical Outreach.”Daniel Bouchard, Baritone, Cecily Gordon,

J. S. Bach Program
Texas Winds receives evaluations from facility administrators throughout the year. One of the most touching letters we received was from Benny Barrett, Sr., Healing Arts Coordinator at the Charles A. Sammons Cancer
Center at Dallas.
