10 MScan MScan is a muscle recording device that compares one clench to another. It is designed for the dentist that cares about more than protecting the teeth. Whether you are trying to educate the patient on creating a more balanced bite, controlling their parafunction, or being proactive about the effects of your OSA appliance, M-scan informs you and the patient about the influence of your treatment on their musculature. In a matter of 60 seconds you should be able to demonstrate the difference between “Clench 1” and “Clench 2,” in order to educate your patients. MScan ™ M-SCAN The goal of the MScan project is to provide an extremely simple, fast and accurate means of evaluating splint efficacy in the office. The MScan user will place two snap electrodes on either the temporalis or masseter muscles and instruct the patient to clench on their natural teeth. The appliance to be tested is then inserted, and the patient is instructed to clench again. The MScan will display the strength of the natural clench and splint clench in micro-volts and show the impact of splint as a % of Maximum Voluntary Clench. MScan is a muscle recording device that compares one clench to another. It is designed for the dentist that cares about more than protecting the teeth. The above examples of Mscan's Screen 1 & 2 show that the appliance reduces the ability of the patient to clench to 14 and 18 percent of maximum voluntary clench. The Mscan will also objectively measure an increase in muscle strength if that is the goal of the appliance. It can be used to compare the balance of muscle pairs.
