Men, Women & God [4/4]‘Quiet Women?’

I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.

1 Timothy 2: 12

1 Corinthians 14: 34-35Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to enquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church. [NIV]

1 Corinthians 14: 34-35

As in all the churches of the saints, 34 the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. 35 If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church. [ESV]

1 Corinthians 11: 4-5 & 33

Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonours his head, 5 but every wife who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonours her head, since it is the same as if her head were shaven.----

33So then, my brothers,[j] when you come together to eat [the Lord’s supper], wait for one another

[j]1 Corinthians 11:33 Or brothers and sisters

1 Corinthians 12: 1, 7 & 271 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers[c], I do not want you to be uninformed. ----

7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.----

27 Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.

[c]1 Corinthians 12:1 Or brothers and sisters

1 Corinthians 14: 1-2, 6 & 261 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. 2 For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God;----

6 Now, brothers, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you …----

26 What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, …

Colossians 3: 1616 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve; 14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. 15 Yet she will be saved through childbearing - if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.

I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. [NLT]

1 Tim 2: 12

Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honour, especially those who labour in preaching and teaching.

He [Apollos] began to speak boldly in the synagogue, but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

Acts 18: 26

Aquila and Prisca, together with the church in their house, send you hearty greetings in the Lord.

1 Corinthians 16: 19

Greet Prisca and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus,

Romans 16: 13

So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptisedinto Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Galatians 3: 26-29
