EASTER RACE 2012

» The first qualifications of this year started grey and drizzly. Since real changes were not in sight other tires were mounted and a part of the radiator was covered.

Around noon the warm-up laps could commence. Hugo made four laps with a best time of ‘2.12,562’ this however still on a wet track. Four drivers managed to beat this time. The motorcycle lacked power due to the moist conditions, since this is never adjusted to that kind of circumstances.

Our luck changed and Hugo managed to take pole position! The bad weather however took its toll ;many drivers competing in other categories went from track. This was one of the reasons why our competition had a rather large delay. The race started at 17.46 hours. Hugo, starting from pole position, managed to get of the line very well.

The engine had still a lot of troubles with the high humidity; due to this Hugo was not able to get all the power out of the NovaBike. In the corners it was possible to gain some time. However, with the lack of power, we were hopeless on the straight parts. After the seventh lap a pit stop was necessary, the engine was running on a too cold temperature and more changes were made to the bike.Due to this stop Hugo was running at 14th place. In the last lap (9th) NovaBike stopped running. This was due to an empty battery. After some research we found that the data logger used more power as predicted.

Despite this setback, we are very happy with our achievements. With the pole position we showed that a lot more is possible! Also our teamwork improved tremendously; more structure and also routine was added. This all has to ensure smoother races. Also Hugo was satisfied, despite all these set-backs we all, including Hugo, are looking forward to the next races.

The new body is getting shape, the fi-nal designs are ready and already positive molds are made. These molds are milled by the faculty of Industrial Design at the TU Delft. The next step will be to produce negative forms. First many imperfections have to be fixed; this is done by using bodyfiller, after which it has to be sanded to receive a smooth finish.

At the end the body will be produced out of carbon fiber, provided to us by TenCate. This is done by the technique of vacuum infusion. To conclude it can only be stated that a lot of hours will be spent laminating the final parts.

At the moment the other parts are also getting the last hand concerning design, after this these will undergo the same procedure.

Hugo van den Berg, Randy van der Wal, Malte Verleg … many will handle the clip-ons this year. It is for this reason that it is very favorable to have as many adjustable parts as possible.

A nice riding position can certainly help to improve the results of the driver. However care has to be taken that these parts do notdrastically affect the weight of the motorcycle.

We chose to make variable steps, by doing so every driver can choose his favorite set up. Malte, which is also our test driver, designed very lightweight steps which are able to offer this kind of adjustability.

RECRUITMENT NB04To ensure the future of this wonderful project it is essential to have, each year, a very motivated and eager team. Since NovaBike is a student-team, a very dynamic atmosphere is present. New students join whilst other graduate. It is for this reason that the recruitment of new members is an essential and annual task.

The 3rd of May NovaBike held an interest drink, this in cooperation with the other teams and the university itself.

Ensuring the future of NovaBike

We are very pleased to say that a lot of enthusiastic and potential new members showed up to show their interest in our project.

From now of on a lot of ‘interviews’ will be held; this to ensure a large inflow of new and capable members.

By doing so we certainly hope that we will be able to present a wonderfull NB04 team to you at the beginning of next college year!
