What developing problems affect the growth of the mandible and thereby affect the growth and development of the face? This pre-sentation will provide you with the reasoning behind the problems and some solutions that improve the growth of the face. The Pedi-atric Dentist is the first to see these problems and the best to follow them and advise the parents about the corrective solutions that are available. The normal growth and development of the dentition and the face should be a major goal in every Pediatric Dentist’s practice!

Dr. Miranda holds both DDS and MS degrees from Baylor University and graduated from University of Missouri Kansas City with a specialty in pediatric dentistry. In 1980, he founded POGO Seminars to help pediatric and general dentists manage developing occlusions in growing children. Dr. Miranda taught both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics at Baylor University until 1990. He has lectured internationally and continues his educational focus with dentists in Early Orthodontic Therapy and limited Complete Orthodontic Therapy. In addition, Dr. Miranda has conducted post gradu-ate research in physiology and holds a PhD in Education.

Oh No! Ectopic Eruption...What Do I Do Now? 2 CEUsTimothy R. Fagan, DDS

If you’re treating children, you’re likely to see patients with ectopic eruption as this condition has been reported to occur in up to 10% of the population. Any permanent tooth in the mouth can erupt ec-topically. Do you feel confident in your abilities to correct these con-ditions or to prevent them in the first place? This presentation will examine the diagnosis and treatment of ectopic eruptions through the use of easy, simplified interceptive techniques that can be used every day in your office to prevent and/or correct ectopic eruptions of all permanent teeth.

Dr. Fagan received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the College of Dentistry at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and his pediatric dental training at the University of Iowa. He is a media spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and has also served as chairman of the Academy’s Practice Administration Committee and the Council on Continuing Education, and is a former Trustee on the Academy’s Board of Trustees. Dr. Fagan is a past President of the SouthWestern Society of Pediatric Dentistry and the Oklahoma Association of Pediatric Dentists. He is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Oklahoma Dental School. Dr. Fagan has written several published articles on pediatric dentistry and, throughout the year, he gives dental presentations to other dentists and to the general public.

Airway Evaluation: Why, When, How? 1 CEUJeffrey D. Rhodes, DDS

Dr. Rhodes will discuss why and how to assess airways in growing chil-dren. He will touch on when optimal time is to do an evaluation. You will also learn how to go about doing an effective airway evaluation and screening.

Dr. Rhodes is a 1984 graduate of Austin College in Sherman, Texas. He graduated from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1988, and completed specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry in 1990. His special interests lie in growth and development. He has completed fellowships at Scottish Rite Hospital for Crippled Children, Children’s Medical Center of Dallas and teaching fellowship at Baylor College of Dentistry. He is a member of Arkansas Society of Pediatric Den-

tistry, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Arkansas State Dental Association, American Dental Association, SouthWestern Society of Pediatric Dentistry, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and Diplo-mate of American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He is a Past President of the SouthWestern Society of Pediatric Dentistry.

Orthodontists and Pediatric dentist who treat young patients are faced with unique treatment challenges. Dr. Tim Auger has been using the Wilson Bi-Directional Distalization Arch and Modular Lower Lingual holding arch as adjuncts to early interceptive orthodontic treatment for 20 years. His presentation will cover the following:

2. Molar distalization in conjunction with Rapid Palatal expansion for a complete phase 1 result.

3. Simple, effective and efficient lower arch space maintenance with the Wilson modular lingual holding arch.

4. Case examples of interceptive Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 treatment modalities. Specifics to be outlined are;

a. What cases to treat early and why? b. Specific phase 1 goals for simplified patient management. c.. Cases in which to avoid early treatment.

5. Step by step guidance to help incorporate these simple appliances into any orthodontic or pedi-atric dental practice.
