2011 PARADE OF HOMESEnergy Freedom Home

This “Energy Freedom Home” at Wild Pointe Reserve was one of the first

residential homes to be certified with the 2012 Energy Star Version 3.0

standards. The Décor & You Team teamed up with GJ Gardner to provide a

home that was not only built to sustainable standards but also furnished with

sustainable items. Our goal at Décor & You was to prove that a sustainable

interior can be a beautiful well designed space with no compromises on

function or style.

Designers: Linnore Gonzales, Jen Linder, & Linda O’BrienTurnberry Tower Project: Introduction

Our client came to us after purchasing a vacation condo in the TurnberryTowers located in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Turnberry Towers are located off the strip near the Stratosphere and Hilton Hotel and provide great views from inside each of the units.

The unit they purchased was a 1405 square foot unit with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, kitchen, great room, and 2 decks.

After purchasing our client not only needed help with finalizing the finishes but also needed professional design help with furnishing the space especially because at that time they still lived in Colorado and have not moved to Nevada yet.

We put 3 different looks together for them that reflected their style of elegance, simplicity, versatility, clean lines, and of course the spirit of Vegas.

“What’s a Man to Do?”

We’d love to say that our client contacted our office on his own accord, but that would be lying. Rather his mom called onhis behalf. Like any good son, he listened to his mother who wanted this recent divorcee to get back on his feet and work onhis bachelor’s pad! He has 4 children that he shares custody with and all the leftover furniture his ex wife didn’t take. All heneeded was the gentle nudge, okay, big push from his mother to move forward on his new life.

Meeting our client we could see his home needed mending. The wall paint was an unusual flesh color and he had a sofaand a loveseat the size of small boats floating around his small living room. We could see the shrapnel of toys left behind fromthe kiddos throughout the home along with the remaining sectional and 80’s style spider light that was strategically placed toilluminate said sectional. A change was definitely needed as we toured the home and we sensed from the client’s unhappinesshe felt in his current surroundings with the weight of the world on his shoulders. He wanted his home to feel new, and like“a million bucks”. He said he didn’t want the typical bachelor’s lair, with the black leather sofa and Beer posters hangingabout but instead a warm inviting space that he could share with his children in making new memories. He had the amounthe wanted to invest ($30,000.00) in this design project and asked if we could give him all his wishes with this amount. Wetold him we would work within his budget and give him new spaces for his family. He was very excited and wrote us a checkon site and off we went to design!

We presented our client the design options for the new look and was immediately drawn to one in particular. We began thedemo on the flooring and began the process of painting the entire home’s interior. He was nervous with the color’s selected towarm up his walls (we were happy to get rid of the Barbie flesh color!) and asked him to please give it a chance and wait untilwe completed the look.

Install day came and we had coordinated all products to arrive and be installed on the same day. We sent our client off towork while we worked on putting the entire home together in order to give him that “wow” factor when he arrived home. Ashe walked through the door as the sun had gone down, he didn’t speak a word. He said he had no words to how he felt otherthan he felt like his home looked like the million bucks it deserved to be. David’s wish to have his home feel more valuable wastruly more about his own self confidence. We wished our client the very best in his new beginnings and know he’ll call uponus next time and not his mother to work on future projects. His mom also recently visited and gave her stamp of approval onthe new design. Our client was a wonderful client to work with and we appreciated so much him sharing his home andcircumstances openly with us. We feel we played a small part in creating a warm, inviting home for him and his family whenthey needed it the most.

Commercial Projects

Page 28: 2012 Portfolio

Designers: Linnore Gonzales, Jen Linder, & Linda O’BrienLouis & Company Project: Commercial

This commercial project began with a phone call to our office from our client whom was the branch manager of Louis & Company which is a national distributor of fine quality products to the wood working kitchen design industry. What he explained next to us was intriguing and offered an enormous challenge to the design staff. Our client explained to us over the phone that he was the manager of a large warehouse in Denver that he had reserved space for within to implement his “Dream Studio” where he envisioned showcasing his kitchen accessories and wood products to the trade and now to the public. He had guarded this empty space with his life for over a year, not wanting to give up his square footage to anything but his vision. . When asked why our client didn’t go with the other kitchen designers interviewed he said they didn’t “listen” to him and didn’t feel they cared as much about his “baby” as he did. They hadn’t asked him one question about what he saw for the space. He saw that we where different and with that signed a contract was signed and work began immediately.

Once in the space we saw the task in front of us and knew this was no small project but one that we knew was as special to us as to our client. It was clear to us that this design studio represented our client’s vision for the company as well as his reputation being on the line. We made sure he was involved in each step and every meeting held so he would feel his voice was being heard.

The goal of this job for our client was to have corporate recognize the need for design studios in every warehouse across the country, 12 to be exact. If this proved to be a success he would have his wish and be the “father” of what was finally named The Studio.

After one year of building walls, approving budgets, selecting colors, cabinetry, flooring, knobs and lighting, we had the Grand Opening of The Studio. Many compliments were expressed and a success we all shared. The last we heard from our client is that Louis & Company had deemed his vision a success and is considering The Studio nationally.
