Hays CISD to continue bus transportation to Post Oak!
By: Leanndrea Zaczek-Turbeville
On the last day of school, May 31, Tobias Elementary School sent out a notice that Hays CISD wouldno longer provide bus transportation to Post Oak.
ResearchUpon hearing the news I started an email campaign to
find out some statistics on the student population and
its correlation to Post Oak. I also inquired about the
formal process to complain and/or petition the
decision.
Results
I received an email from Tim Savoy, Hays CISD,
Public Information Office, on June 18, stating:
We have decided to reverse our decision about
discontinuing bus service to Post Oak. After
reviewing all of the data and taking another look
at the roadway, we plan to continue bus service.
Your inquiry into this matter is a big part of thereason we looked into it further.
With the added safety features, the intersection
does not meet state-defined criteria to be
considered a hazardous intersection. Our Board
policy would ordinarily not allow for bus service
to students who live less than a mile from
campus and who do not have to cross a
hazardous intersection. However, we believe
because of this unique situation, the roadway isstill too dangerous for young children to cross at
the present time.
Continuing bus service will require the Board to
waive policy for this case. It will be the
recommendation of the administration to do so
and we do not anticipate that the Board would
object. We will have the item on the Board
agenda at its regular meeting in August. The
Board does not meet in July.

Local News & EventsACC campus breaks groundPhoto and article By Kim Hilsenbeck
Austin Community Colleges We are ACC motto rang true at the
groundbreaking of the Hays campus as a Hays High graduate told heremotional story about what the college did for her.
Probably the most powerful speaker of the day, Dr. Christina Sheely
is an orthopedic surgeon and ACC alumna. Sheely spoke poignantly
of her path from high school to doctor.
I went to Hays High School, Sheely said. When I was in Kyle,
there was a DQ and thats about it.

Rumors and promises, oh my!
By: Leanndrea Zaczek-Turbeville
I recently spoke with a resident who was inquiring if HOA dues would be increasing for 2013.
The rumor is that DR Horton sales are slower than expected in Post Oak and therefore, the dueswill need to be increased to make up for the lack of sales. I emailed Justin Davis, DR Horton, LandDevelopment and Post Oak 1s elected Board of Director. Justin replied within a matter of minutes, stating, . sales have no relation to HOA dues. Justin did say that the HOA needs to be able tosustain itself, which it is currently doing.
Typically the yearly budget is reviewed at Post Oak 1 HOAs Annual Meeting. This year, it was
unfortunate that Real Manage did not provide agendas for our Annual Meeting to stimulate thisconversation. I have requested that Real Manage come back out to discuss this information and I
was turned down by Rick Jenkins. However, Mr. Jenkins did say, all homeowners are entitled toall of the financial info & budgets. I encourage all of you who are interested in this information toemail our community manager at Real Manage, Candace Douglas, your request:[email protected].
Budget requests for 2013 are due July 24, 2012 for the upcoming board meeting to discussfinancials. At the last HOA meeting there were some requests from committees and residents forevents money, pool furniture, as well as some ideas to supplement the HOA funds by someresidents.
Weve also made some much needed changes to the pool party reservation form. Parties may nowoccur anytime during regular pool hours. There is a $75 deposit however, it will be returned after
the party as long as there were no damages made and there was no additional clean up required dueto the party. Please see the website for more details, www.wix.com/postoak1hoa/home.
Ground breaking and installation of our long awaited playscape is expected by late July, earlyAugust 2012. Justin Davis sent out a few bids at the end of May, which I emailed and thecommunity voted on. I will keep you posted on any additional updates in regards to the playscapethat may arise.
And yes, the facebook group, Post Oak 1 HOA was taken down and all of its members were
removed. The facebook group was the first social media effort used by Post Oak 1 HOA. Since itsinception, we had 150+ members and it was used as a means to locate lost pets and let each otherno when to watch out for solicitors. Being actively involved with the community involves free time
from dedicated volunteers. We now have an active website, weve always had an email accountand we now have consistent communication by means of rotating monthly newsletter and HOAmeetings. Unfortunately, I no longer had the time or volunteers to lean on to responsibly use socialmedia as an outlet for our official community communications.
Our next HOA meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 9, 2012. I know everyones busy but the
meetings typically last for one hour, from 7PM-8PM. I post the agenda online about a week beforethe meeting. Its a way for us to make sure our voice is heard, if we dont express our needs andwants to the builder and developer we cant expect things to change in our favor. Try to come and
bring a friend!
