Dear CIS, I AM so proud!!!!! And I can’t thank you enough for all the help and encouragement you gave Jacob. He is a very blessed child to have had so many people behind him cheering and channeling him on toward this goal. I truly, in the depths of my heart, do not believe he would have stayed in school if he hadn’t gotten in trouble in March and sent to you. CIS was probably his sav- ing grace this semester. Back in January and February I had deep fears that by graduation time he would be long gone from home and school (as I’m sure you remember from some of my desperate emails LOL). Thanks again for all you have done. Thanks for caring and putting Jacob in your heart. I know y’all come across so many kids, and I know it must be hard to really care. But I know Jacob KNEW you cared about him and believed in him, and I know that too. I hope your summer is relaxing and enjoyable. You do a great work. You save lives. I have no doubt of that. The work you do is so important. Now that I can redirect my energy from Jacob graduating, maybe I can work toward getting into the counseling field. After I got my Masters in 2003, with a full-time job, I just didn’t want to take more time away from being home for Jacob to pouring that much energy into an internship or job in the field. Now maybe I can do that. If you ever hear of any opportunities, let me know if you think about it. You’ve inspired me!!!! Thanks again for everything. I’ll let you know how things continue. Dear CIS,

I AM so proud!!!!! CIS was probably his sav-ing grace this semester.

Talk to you soon. --Janet, Proud Parent

Empowering kids to stay in school and achieve in life. SPRING 2012

Congratulations to the five CIS of Houston recipients of this year!s Gulf Coast Section of Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Scholarships. In addition to their open scholarship program, dedicated to increasing interest in thepetroleum industry among graduating high school seniors, SPE - Gulf Coast Section has supported CIS by designating a number of awards specifically for qualified CIS seniors. The scholarship awards are approximately $1,500 per semester and are renewable pending the student meets the renewal criteria; supporting their college tuition needs up to $12,000.

Since 2003, more than $130,000 has been given in scholarships to support CIS graduates. Special thanks to CIS Lifetime Board Member Bill White for first introducing SPE to the CIS mission.

Thank you Gulf Coast Section of Society of Petroleum Engineers and con-gratulations recipients!
