March 2, 2012 Re: Invitation for the Freddie Solomon Football Showcase Dear Athlete: On behalf of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, I am pleased to extend you an invitation to participate in the Freddie Solomon Football Showcase on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the University of Tampa, in Tampa, Florida. You have been identified as one of the top up-and-coming prospects in the Tampa Bay area and are therefore eligible to participate in this highly selective event. Since 2004, this program has showcased the top talent from the Tampa Bay area and across Florida. The event is modeled after the NFL combine and named after football legend and community hero, Freddie Solomon, who spent a lifetime mentoring Tampa Bay area youth and helping them reach their highest potential. We remember Freddie and continue his mission through this event. You will be tested in the areas of speed, strength, explosive power, and agility. In addition to these standardized performance measures, you will be evaluated based on your performance during position specific and 1-on-1 competition drills. The event is conducted by experienced combine performance specialists and a professional coaching staff. This is an outstanding opportunity to prove yourself for an audience of scouts, members of the media, and college football coaches. Enclosed in this packet you will find detailed information on the event, registration and waiver forms and a brief questionnaire that will be used to develop your biography page as part of the event recap. Completed registrations must be received by May 25, 2012. Forms may be faxed, emailed, or mailed to our office. ABOUT FREDDIE SOLOMON
Known as “Coach”, “Fabulous Freddie”, “Fast Freddie”, or simply “Freddie”, Solomon will forever be remembered as a hero in the Tampa community because of his tireless commitment to serving families and underserved youth. Solomon attended the University of Tampa where he was a record-breaking quarterback. As a senior in 1974, he rushed for a then-NCAA-quarterback record 1,300 yards and 19 TDs. That same year he finished 12th in Heisman Trophy balloting, receiving 13 first place votes. In three years, he accounted for 5,803 yards of total offense and 39 TDs. His career total of 3,299 rushing yards was a NCAA quarterback record. The Dolphins selected Solomon in the second round of the 1975 draft. As a pro, Solomon would go on to play wide receiver, quarterback, running back and kick returner. He spent his first three NFL seasons with Miami and his final eight in San Francisco, finishing with 371
receptions for 5,846 yards and 48 touchdowns in 371 games. Solomon also ran for 329 yards and three TDs as an important member of late Hall of Fame coach Bill Walsh's West Coast offense. With the 49ers, Solomon was part of two Super Bowl championships while being an All-Pro selection in 1980. He was inducted to the Univeristy of Tampa Athletics Hall of Fame in 1983 and, in 2002, was honored along with Tino Martinez as the University of Tampa Athletes of the Century. After his football career ended, Solomon worked for two decades in community relations with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in Florida, where he mentored youth and taught vital life lessons through football. He assembled scores of youth football teams and training camps. He used the teams, his coaching, his wisdom and his soft-voice to help children find themselves and see a brighter future. Through his work with the Sheriff’s office he assembled family fun days for hard luck families and hosted an annual Christmas party that generated thousands in donations and provided groups of children and their caregivers with presents. "There was no one who gave more on and off the field than Freddie," Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana said. "The kindness he demonstrated was inspirational to all that knew him, and a joy to be around. The warmth of his smile will be forever imbedded in my mind and heart." Solomon was born on January 11, 1953, in Sumter, S.C. and passed away on February 12, 2012 after a 10 month battle with cancer.

The vertical jump tests lower body explosion and power.
Each participant will be given two successful jumps. Participants will start directly below the Vertec.
When the athlete leaves the ground he must do so off of two feet (no drop step), and attempt to touch the
highest possible vane. The best score will be recorded.
The pro-agility or short shuttle tests an athletes lateral quickness and explosion.
Athletes will begin this test in an athletic or defensive position. Measurement will be taken with an
electronic time and a hand-held time. Time will start on the athlete's first movement. Athlete will run 5
yards, touch the line with their hand, run 10 yards in the opposite direction and touch the line with his
hand, change direction and run 5 yards back through the starting line. Each athlete will receive two
successful attempts. If the athlete fails the attempt, he will be given one more attempt.

The broad jump tests an athlete's lower body explosion and power.
A two-foot take off and landing is used with the athlete attempting to jump as far as possible, landing on

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Please visit www.FreddieSolomonShowcase.com and follow the directions to "Nominate an Athlete"
Your high school football coach, College Coaches in attendance, recruiting analysts and scouts, college football
coaches that request the information, and anyone else that the participant wishes to share the information with.
Can my parents and coaches attend and watch me compete?
Absolutely, this is encouraged. This is an important time during your life and it's important to share these
experiences with the people that have helped get you to were you are today.
What surface will I be testing on and competing on?
All activities will be completed on a grass surface.
I know of an athlete that deserves an invitation to this combine, how do I get him invited?
Who will see my testing scores?
What makes the Freddie Solomon Football Showcase different from other football combines?
The Freddie Solomon Football Showcase focuses on featuring true football talent and ability of the best football
players from the Tampa Bay area. The drills have been designed to allow players the chance to take on the best of
the best. All athletes have been nominated by their coach to participate in this event that has been modeled after the
NFL Combine.
Can I "scratch" my score if I'm not happy with the results?
Yes. All participants will have the opportunity to withhold their scores before their information is made available to
scouts and coaches. NOTE: NO TESTING DATA WILL BE RELEASED AT THE EVENT. Athletes will
receive their testing scores via email on Friday, June 8, 2012. Participants will have until Friday June 15, 2012 at
5:00pm EST to notify the Freddie Solomon Football Showcase of their intent to scratch their scores. This must be
done by submitting a request in writing to [email protected].
Will the Freddie Solomon Football Showcase help with my college recruitment?
Yes. The program is annually attended by college football programs and scouts that are eligible to attend per the
respective governing body regulations. Additionally, every college football program and scouting network in the
country has access to the combine data. While you likely won't walk away from the combine with a scholarship offer,
it will at the very least give you some additional exposure through the media and introduce you to college programs
that you previously may not have had access to.
I can't come, can I give my place to a friend?
You may recommend someone to attend in your place, but there is no guarantee that he will be selected to
participate. Nomination forms may be downloaded at www.FreddieSolomonShowcase.com. At this time there is
already a waiting list for this combine. If you are not able to attend, your roster place will be given to an alternate.
What should I bring to the showcase?
You will need to arrive to the combine ready to be active, which means you'll need cleats, shorts, and gloves (you
will be provided a testing shirt). You will also want to bring with you the following: photo ID, sunscreen, something
to snack on throughout the day, 2 copies of your highlight video, and if you wish, a copy of your transcript.
Quarterbacks are encouraged to bring a ball that they prefer to throw with.
