Anne Marie Rodola and her partner Roberta Miller know the difference that Hospiceservices make in a family’s life firsthand, as both had a loved one served by Hospice. AnnMarie witnessed the caring and compassion that Roberta’s mother received for six months, while in Home Hospice care. Not only was the patient care extraordinary but the familysupport was invaluable. Hospice of Orleans was also privileged to take care of Anne Marie’sown mother and also benefitted from palliative care services provided to her brother in 2007.For him, she watched his anger turn to peace during his two weeks of Hospice service. Likeso many, it was not until their personal encounter with Hospice, that they ever gave theservice much thought and like so many, it prompted them to think about ways of givingback. As residents of Orleans County for the last 10 years and with an established cleaningservice for twenty eight years, they found a unique way to make a serious difference. Theiry g y y q ygift to the new Martin-Linsin Residence is full janitorial and cleaning services for one year.In Anne Marie’s own words “we wanted to do something more than write a check. Givinghas much more meaning when effort is involved”. The Board and staff of Hospice extend aheartfelt thank you for this very generous and unique gift.

Thoughts from the Development Director“The kiss of the Sun for pardon, the songs of the Birds for mirth, one is nearer God’s heart in a garden thananywhere else on earth” Such fitting words from a poem by Dorothy Frances Gurney During the last decadeanywhere else on earth . Such fitting words from a poem by Dorothy Frances Gurney. During the last decade, there have been many changes at Hospice, more services added, office upgrades and new staff - all very evident. However, one that is probably the least noticeable is the Hospice Memorial Garden.

Hospice recently said goodbye to a very dear friend, Paul I. Miles who, as a onetime board member and longtimesupporter, was Chairman of the original garden planning committee. Under his leadership, land was reclaimed, afoundation plan was laid and with an army of volunteers, funds and horticultural expertise, the current garden was

With the Martin-Linsin residence under construction for a year, only minimal maintenance was possible, however, that will all

o y a a te a ce was poss b e, oweve , t at w achange for spring 2013. Thanks to a very generous donationfrom BMP America, a new Gazebo will be added and we hopeto expand the memorial brick walkway. The Fountain will againflow and more perennial beds will be constructed. As and whenfunds become available, we would also like to add moreoccasional seating.g

The garden volunteer base has expanded and under the watchfuleye of Master Gardener and Designer Vicki Jansef and with JanetBolton as the volunteer coordinator, there will be almost 30pairs of “green thumbs”. As a lifelong English gardener, I am soexcited about the prospect of creating an even more beautiful
