Structural Steel Frames

Hot rolled structural sections are manuactured withinevitable variations in exact dimensions, while steelerection techniques will create unavoidable tolerancesin straightness along beam length and other dimensions.

Accurate adjustability during installation is thereore anessential prerequisite o the cladding support system.

Lindapter acilitates this requirement with convenience,allowing the cladding contractor to simply slide thebracket or other xing assembly along a vertical orhorizontal structural beam with precise alignment,beore tightening the Lindapter components witha torque wrench. This method enables the rapidinstallation o large areas o cladding and signicantlyreduces the period o crane operation.

Lindapter Type A clamps connect the stud rame o glass reinorced concrete (GRC) panels to structural steel. The Type Aholds the bolt head captive during tightening o the nut or ease o installation. The clamping arrangement allows verticaland horizontal adjustment o the panels on-site.

Square/rectangle Structural Hollow Section (SHS)is a popular material amongst architects, with manycontemporary designs eaturing the exposed smoothproles o the structural steel to enhance the aestheticso a building.

Responding to industry demand or a aster alternativeto welding or through-bolting, Lindapter invented theHollo-Bolt, a structural expansion bolt specicallydesigned or primary or secondary connections oSHS. The Hollo-Bolt is particularly well suited toexternal or internal glazing support rames due to itsdiscreet prole. Installation is carried out quickly andsaely by inserting the product into pre-drilled holesthen tightening to the recommended torque usingonly hand tools.

Project Case Study

St Davids Shopping Centre CladdingLocation: Cardiff

Lindapter Type LR clamps were used to attachthe precast concrete cladding panels to primarysteelwork as part o the 675m expansion o StDavids Shopping Centre in Cardi.

The consulting engineers invited Lindapter to designa bespoke adjustable xing system to acilitate theaccurate positioning o precast concrete claddingpanels on this major retail construction project.Lindapter proposed a solution comprising o a steelbracket with slotted holes that could be clamped to thestructural members with Type LR xings. The cladding

panels could then be lited into place and connectedback to the same steel bracket, with the xing systemproviding convenient adjustability on three axes.

The design was promptly approved and Lindaptersupplied 534 pre-assembled connection systems,tted with size M16 Type LR clamps, to secure theentire sandstone aced aade. The highly adjustablesystem not only simplied the positioning o the panels,but the sel-adjusting capability o the Lindapter Type

LR allowed this specication to be standardised toaccommodate dimensional variations o the structuralsteel.

Stephen Maddalena, Chairman and Joint M.D. o theMarble Mosaic Company, who designed, manuacturedand installed the precast cladding panels, highlights thebenets o speciying Lindapter:

Given the projects construction and programmeconstraints, the use o Lindapters connectors providedan eminently practical means o attaching the precastcladding panels to its structural steel rame and the

helpul support o Lindapters team proved to beespecially valuable in developing this solution
