The Bremer TafE’s Community Services lead vocational teacher, Judy Williams is officially a legend. She was named a 2011 auSTafE legend for her leadership and innovative contributions to community services over her 13-year career. Judy’s extensive experience has been sought by beginner teachers and she has provided mentoring to others by promoting technology and its application in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. auSTafE is a professional association dedicated to VET and developing leaders within TafE.

didn’t get the overall position (op) or Tertiary Education rank (TEr) you needed for uni? studying at taFe is an alternative pathway to university.

TafE graduates make great university students. They’ve got practical knowledge in their field and are already in the study groove. They typically achieve better results than school students who go straight to university from school.

once you know what program you’re interested in, check out the TafE Qld website to see which universities you can gain direct entry into. Visit www.tafe.qld.gov.au for all the information required for articulation to university.

reduce your study time and cost of study

The Bremer TafE has credit agreements with major Queensland universities. If you complete a diploma or advanced diploma, universities will welcome you directly into a wide variety of their degree programs and they’ll give you credit for the study you’ve completed.

This means you could skip the application process with QTaC and jump straight into the second year of university. as most TafE programs are government subsidised, choosing this option could deliver significant cost savings.

Studying a Certificate III or higher at The Bremer TAFE will improve your overall position (op) rank or Tertiary Entrance rank (TEr). The table below shows a minimum TEr and op which may be awarded upon successful completion of our programs.

unemployed, just left school, or looking to change careers or upgrade your skills, and not sure what you want to do? The Bremer TafE is a great starting point where you can gain the relevant skills and knowledge to get you job ready.

We have over 250 programs on offer, ranging from short courses to advanced diplomas, and they can provide you with the qualifications required to find employment or follow a different career calling.

If you want a career change, The Bremer TafE has a training solution for you. Just over a third of students in 2010 were studying programs in areas different to their current profession.

The Bremer TafE also offers part-time, evening and blended options so you can study around work and family commitments.

The more skills and qualifications you have, the more likely you are to increase your wage level.

pathways based on your experience

Have you gained knowledge and skills through your work, life experience, training or education? If so, you might already be part-way to completing a qualification.

applying for recognition of prior learning (rpl) or a credit transfer can fast-track your studies so you can kick-start your career sooner and also save on the cost of your qualification. It adds up to apply so the cost of study and time taken to attain your qualification doesn’t.

rpl and credit transfers recognise your current skills and knowledge. They are an important assessment pathway, particularly for people who are considering undertaking study as the recognition gained may considerably reduce the money spent and the study time needed to obtain a qualification.

a credit transfer recognises previous formal learning already completed at registered training organisations. Students simply need to show official evidence of the learning and results achieved. rpl is the formal acknowledgement current skills and knowledge - no matter how, when or where the learning occurred.

potential students should apply for recognition of prior learning or a credit transfer at the same time they enroll, before their training actually commences.

Even if you have never formally studied or trained in a particular area, you may be able to have your skills formally recognised at The Bremer TafE.

pathways to your QCe

You can gain vocational skills and academic qualifications while studying for your Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). The Bremer Institute of TafE has great relationships with many schools within the Ipswich and South-East Queensland region. The schools programs on offer at the Institute can provide secondary school students with access to a range of vocational courses not accessible within a mainstream schooling environment.

Benefits of studying subjects not offered at school

If you successfully complete a program at The Bremer TafE you can gain credit towards the QCE.

• Certificate I programs provide 2-3 credits

• Certificate II programs provide 4 credits

• Certificate III programs provide up to 8 credits

• diploma programs provide 1 credit for each unit of competency successfully completed.

Gain direct entry to the Bremer taFe or uni

After you finish school, you can gain direct entry to further training at The Bremer TafE.

If you study units from a diploma program at school, you can gain direct entry to the full-time program when you complete school, and in most instances you will have a direct entry pathway into university after the diploma is completed.

pathways to an apprenticeship or traineeship

Want to earn while you learn? The Bremer TafE has been offering apprenticeship and traineeship programs longer than most other training institutions have existed, so we have the experience and relationships to provide you with the best training.

apprenticeships and traineeships

an apprentice is trained in a skilled trade and upon successful completion will become a qualified tradesperson. Trades such as electrical, cabinetmaking and automotive mechanics are just a few that are a part of the apprenticeship scheme.

a trainee is someone who is trained in a vocational area. These vocational areas include, but are not limited to - office administration, information technology, and retail. upon completion of a traineeship you will be eligible to receive a minimum of a Certificate II in your chosen vocational area.

school-based apprenticeships and traineeships

Secondary school students are able to work for an employer and earn a wage as well as train towards a recognised qualification while completing Years 11 and 12. A school-based apprenticeship or traineeship effectively allow school students to get a headstart on gaining a qualification.

our get Set for Work program and Studying, Training and Effective parenting program (STEpp) are designed to re-engage young people who have left school (with education and employment opportunities) through holistic and support frameworks to encourage further education and employment opportunities.

Blended learning

Blended learning provides you with flexible choices about how and where you learn. It combines self-paced external study with face-to-face workshops and one-on-one assistance as required. Balancing a job, family and busy lifestyle with further education and training goals? Blended learning could be for you.

The Bremer Institute of TafE’s new range of Blended learning courses allow you to study where and when you like off campus, supported by regular one day face-to-face workshops so you can interact with teachers and other students.

Certificate II/Prevocational

prepare for entry-level positions or apprenticeships in a variety of industries. as well as providing basic knowledge, a Certificate II demonstrates to a potential employer that you are actively interested in their industry.

Certificate III

develop career-relevant skills, theoretical knowledge and problem-solving abilities. This level of qualification is ideal for people wanting to move out of entry-level roles, or shift into a new career. apprenticeships and traineeships are generally at this level. provides a minimum Tertiary Entrance Score (TEr) of 68 or overall position (op) equivalent op15 to apply for university.

Certificate IV

designed for supervisory and management positions and ideal if you want to advance your career or further develop skills acquired through previous study. provides a minimum Tertiary Entrance Score (TEr) of 74 or overall position (op) equivalent op13 to apply for university.

Diplomas

how to enrol

once you know what program you are interested in, follow the steps below to enrol.

step 1: phone the Customer Service Centre on 3817 3000 and let them know the program you are interested in. They can give you the most recent program information and send you an enrolment pack.

step 2: once you are accepted into the program, select an enrolment and payment option. You must provide payment for the program at the same time as you enrol.

how to pay

phone: Enrol by calling the Customer Service Centre on 3817 3000. please ensure you have your credit card details and your “Enrolment Selection form” handy.

in person: Bring your completed enrolment form to one of our Customer Service Centres located at Bundamba, Inala and Springfield. Payment can be made by cash, cheque, money order, EfTpoS, Visa, Mastercard and American Express. See pages 9 and 10 for campus locations and opening hours.

By mail: Mail your completed enrolment form with cheque, money order or credit card details to: The Bremer TafE, PO Box 138, Booval Qld 4304. Please ensure all details are completed on the enrolment form.

Government assistance

State government assistance is available to students, job seekers, apprentices, trainees and people with disabilities. Visit the department of Education and Training website at www.training.qld.gov.au for more information.

If eligible students are planning to study or train, or are currently studying or training, they may be able to receive assistance and support from the Commonwealth government. payments include Youth allowance, austudy payment, aBSTudY, pensioner Education Supplement, assistance with Isolated Children, and fares allowance. Contact Centrelink on 13 24 90 to find out if you are eligible for a fee concession or support from the government.

for Centrelink recipients to be regarded as full-time students, they must be enrolled in a minimum of 11.5 nominal hours per week.

Folio preparation

The program is delivered by professional artists with considerable experience in the art and design industry. The program includes four accredited units - CuVVSp14B; CuVVSp34B; CuVSp11B and BSBoHS201a. The course covers development of basic drawing skills, introduction to a range of painting skills in acrylic and water-based media, introduction to adobe design Suite, photoshop and Illustrator, and introduction to workplace health and safety.

Learn the basic training needed to be certified in the safe operation of loadshifting equipment eg, forklifts, order pickers, elevated work platforms (under 11 metres) and electrical pallet jacks. all training and assessing is conducted in accordance to oHS guidelines.

entry: participants 16 years and 9 months can undertake this training but will not be issued a licence under the age of 18 years.
