3pm-4.30pm APPLICANT SESSIoN: Academic Session Your chance to take part in a sample lecture run by our expert academics. This is where you can find out more about your chosen subject area, be introduced to some of our current students and graduates and meet fellow applicants who share your interests.

BuSINESS, mANAGEmENT AND mARkETING The Art of Innovation and the Entrepreneur Success in business takes both skill and passion and this session will require you to use both. Split into two parts the first half focuses on a competitive team-based business simulation where you’ll be asked to devise strategies and tactics to outwit your rivals. In the second half you’ll be tasked with developing a marketing communications campaign with the aim of re-launching a well known brand.

Followed by a question and answer session.

ChILDREN, YouNG PEoPLE AND fAmILIES Children and Young People: Their Future in Your Hands? Recent events have once again seen issues involving children, young people and families become the centre of media focus and therefore high on the political agenda. This session will encourage you to investigate and question just some of the complex issues facing those working within this sector, including; what is the purpose of punishment? Using play to communicate with children, do we begin formal education of our children too early in the UK? What do we mean by “family”?

Followed by a question and answer session.

ENGLISh The Writer’s Story Explore the writer’s craft as one of our English academics shares with you their particular passion for the written word. Combining elements of literature analysis, as well as giving you the chance to produce your own creative piece, the session is perfect for anyone with an interest in the English language.

hISToRY / humANITIESGet the Message

This is an interactive session focusing on posters and how they convey their messages. You will discuss how a range of historical posters used as evidence in a number of our modules (‘Votes for Women’, political posters from Nazi Germany, the USSR, the USA, Britain and the British Empire) get their message across. Then you will have the opportunity to design your own campaign poster.

ThEoLoGY AND RELIGIouS STuDIES “Does the Existence of Suffering Disprove the Existence of God?” Join our academics in a lively and fascinating debate covering one of the most polemic issues facing religion in the 21st century. This session will also introduce and discuss a number of key texts and philosophical positions providing you with new avenues through which to articulate your opinions and beliefs. Followed by a question and answer session.

foRENSIC PSYChoLoGYThe Psychology of a Riot

We will discuss the widespread breakdown in public order that occurred across the UK last summer. This will be examined in terms of the range of known psychological influences that facilitate antisocial behaviour and we will also consider the psychology of policing riots effectively. The question will be posed to those attending- can psychology prevent such widespread lawlessness in the future or are we limited in our contribution to “picking up the pieces” afterwards?

PSYChoLoGYAnalysis in Action

Working with psychology specialists and students from the department, attendees will be working in teams to solve various puzzles and tasks. What factors influence how we tackle such tasks? How and why do individual teams work differently? How can psychologists explain this and apply the results to a ‘real world’ scenario?

Followed by a tour of the psychology labs.

JouRNALISm / SPoRTS JouRNALISm Creating News You’ve made the first tentative steps towards joining our vibrant community at the Centre for Journalism but now it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get involved. This session promises to give you a taste of life as a journalism student at Leeds Trinity. You will produce your own news programme in our state of the art television studio before moving on to looking at the editorial skill involved in scheduling news stories in the modern day.

mEDIA, fILm AND CuLTuRE Media in Motion Whether your speciality lies in theory or production, this session is sure to appeal. The first part will revolve around the discussion and analysis of contemporary media examples. In the second half you’ll be hands on in our state of the art television studio where our lecturers from the industry will aid you in in producing your own programme for broadcast.

NuTRITIoN AND fooD Nutrition, Food and Health in Daily Life This interactive practical session will see you working with our expert lecturers and will put your nutritional knowledge to the test by designing a healthy muesli. Split into teams, you’ll be working with a number of ingredients in order to make the muesli, taste it, sensory evaluate it, and calculate the energetic value and the contents of protein, fat and carbohydrates. Followed by a tour of the Sports Lab.

SPoRT, hEALTh, EXERCISE AND NuTRITIoN /SPoRT AND EXERCISE WITh PSYChoLoGY The Detail of Success Join our team in the sports science laboratory for a whistle-stop tour of performance assessment. Ultimately elite sport is all about performance. Consequently, the ability to measure performance is highly sought after. In this session we will be demonstrating how we assess a wide range of contributing factors to performance including fitness, sports technique, diet and psychological skills.

SPoRTS DEVELoPmENT AND PE / PE (PRImARY) AND SPoRT DEVELoPmENTCreating the Teachers of Tomorrow

We firmly believe that the best advertisement for our courses is our students and so, after introducing you to our lecturers, we’ll be handing you over to some of our students who will be demonstrating the practical skills that they have learnt on their degree. With many hoping to become PE teachers or work in Sport Development, they will give a snap shot of their teaching practice by taking applicants through a session in technique and skill development in sport.

ACADEmIC SESSIoNSRun by our team of renowned lecturers the academic sessions give you a real feeling for what it’s like to be a Leeds Trinity student. Remember to get the most out of these sessions – don’t be shy! Get involved, ask questions and meet other applicants who share your passion.

INfoRmATIoN fAIRThe Information Fair covers our range of Student Support Services – including accommodation, finance and careers. The perfect option for those not involved in the academic sessions.

CAmPuS TouRSTake a tour with one of our Student Ambassadors to get a feel for our campus and environment, including our accommodation. You will be able to ask questions and it’s the ideal way to find out more about the academic and social facilities. Each tour will leave from the Information Fair and will last approximately 45 minutes.

Leeds Trinity has great transport links – it’s easily accessible by road, there’s a railway station ten minutes’ walk from campus and plenty of buses from Leeds stop directly outside the main entrance. Right on the doorstep is Leeds Bradford International Airport – only five minutes away by car.

PARkINGThere is free car parking available on campus. When arriving please look out for our Student Ambassadors who will guide you to an available space.

BY TRAINLeeds Trinity is situated approximately one mile from Horsforth Train Station on the Leeds-York line, with trains arriving every 30 minutes. Telephone 08457 484950 for further information or visit: www.nationalrail.co.uk. The Leeds Trinity free shuttle bus will be operating between Horsforth Train Station and our campus.

BY BuSThere are frequent bus services between Leeds city centre and Horsforth. West Yorkshire bus routes 97 and 731 travel from Leeds Central Bus Station and both stop outside Leeds Trinity.
