We are the church, when we gather together for the worship of God. We are the church, when we offer prayers of petition and peace. We are the church, when we raise our voices in grateful song. We are the church, when we answer the relentless call of God. We are the church, when we call out ministers from among us and commission them to the Gospel ministry. When we offer our lives to the service of God together, we are the church! Let us worship God!

ORDAINING FOR MINISTRY: MORGAN RENEE CARUTHERS

SERMON We Are the Church: Commissioning for Service Amy Butler MUSICAL REFLECTION A Living Prayer arr. Ron Block (b. 1964) Natalie Barrens-Rogers, soprano BLESSING Morgan Caruthers, candidate Ordination Committee ORDINATION VOWS Amy Butler

Will you, the congregation, support Morgan as she walks among you, comforting, exhorting and witnessing for the Church of Jesus Christ?

We, the members of this church, do support Morgan Caruthers as an ordained minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We recognize that her talents, training, and commitments qualify her for such a designation. We have observed her gifts and recognize her calling; by her work among us, she has enlarged our vision of the Kingdom of God. We anticipate her ministry of reconciling people to one another and to God. As the church of Jesus Christ, we commission her today and ordain her to the Gospel ministry. Amen.

LAYING ON OF HANDS Calvary Congregation

All are invited to come forward, as you are comfortable, forming small groups surrounding Morgan. As a circle is formed around her, offer a prayer silently or aloud. You might extend your hands as a sign of blessing.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND LORD’S PRAYER Jason Smith

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power,

and the glory, forever. Amen.

WORSHIP Today we continue our four-week series, We Are the Church: Comforting, Commissioning, Nurturing, Blessing. This series helps us to remember and to celebrate some of the ways we function as the church of Jesus Christ: a memorial service, an ordination, an intern preaching, a wedding… all in Sunday morning worship!

TODAY OUR THANKS to the following members of Morgan Caruthers’s Ordination Council: Chuck Andreatta, Amy Butler, Soren Dayton, Rick Goodman, Edgar Palacios, Nancy Renfrow, Allyson Robinson, Kim Sisk, and Becky Vaughn. We appreciate your time and commitment to this important work of the church.

CONGRATULATIONS Rev. Morgan Renee Caruthers! Rev. Caruthers is now serving as Associate Pastor for Youth at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Austin, Texas.
