It all began in 1999, when that big yellow bus pulled up at our house for the first time. Gary Road Elemen-tary was our first stop. We stayed there from kindergarten until second grade, and that is where we started making our life-long friendships. We had recess and naptime, the things that we wish we could have back. 2011 Senior Reflects: Defining Senior Year

Once, we were freshmen, gazing unknowingly at the magnitude of the seniors command. They paraded the halls and looked unstoppable. We realized then, se-nior year would be something we couldn’t define until we finally made it there. Now we are at the end, and some of us seniors may admit that the freshmen don’t know how good they have it, and others may not take back the years for any-thing. The truth is, senior year is still inexpressible. Ex-citement one moment, despair the next, regrets, and tak-ing chances. To all of the curious underclassmen, senior year is constantly changing, and has the potential to be more jolting than any experience you have had thus far. However, events tie us to memories of our senior year, and many may argue that in essence, these events de-fined the senior class. Being the last year in high school, one remembers moments such as painting our parking spots, the first pep rally, homecoming week, senior sign the wall, the senior cook out, senior skip day, and prom. One remembers the first college acceptance letter that is opened, the anxiety felt when the next chapter in life is only a tear of an envelope away. Take this advice; the best way to define senior year is to make it one of a kind. Make it definable, and don’t rush it. This year isn’t over yet, so Terry High School Seniors enjoy the few days we have left. Finish out this school year like it’s your last.

Every April brings with it loads of important decisions for (about half of) every high school. What dress should you buy? Who should you go with? Where will you eat? Where will you go after? Obviously these questions point to one weighty event – Prom. Prom can be classified as the most important affair of everyone’s high school career. Any adult who went to Prom can say they en-joyed it; and just as well, any adult that confesses to missing the hap-pening will admit that they regret it. This year’s Prom held to its traditional magnitude, and any sort of participant could confess their high spirits in the face of this experi-ence. It was held on April 21st at Wahabi Shines, but little do most stu-dents know, it started long before 9 o’ clock that night. Ms. Wilkinson, the leader of Terry’s Prom Committee, was in charge of decorations this year. The theme was “Cirque du Soleil,” which predestined balloons, streamers, and lots of lights. Mr. Smith, who helped to circulate all the money that Prom required, estimates that at least twelve thousand dol-lars was made from the event, but about nine thousand dollars was spent on it. Obviously, all of the money and hard work paid off, as everyone seemed to enjoy themselves in the midst of it all. The two most important parts of Prom are the Senior Walk; and afterwards, the crowning of the Prom King and Queen. The four contestants for Prom Queen this year were Samantha Grant, Ashlee Holden, Hannah King, and Jimmiesha Morris; with the winner being Hannah King. When asked how she felt about this honor, she simply replied,” It feels pretty awesome!” Surely, though, this phrase could be used to describe everyone’s experience at Prom.

On April 15, 2011, at Country Woods Baptist Church, the community held Relay for Life to walk in honor or memory of their family members or friends that had or cur-rently have cancer. This event also helps raise money for current cancer patients. Altogether, there was close to $1000 raised from this considerate event. Separate from this event, our school encouraged each individual grade to raise money for this cause, and in the end, the sophomore class succeeded and raised the most money. Relay for Life is a very helpful event and there are plenty of things people can learn from it. Rachel Elkins stated, “I learned that we need to be more aware of what cancer can do to you. We don’t actually realize how many people are affected until we see the dif-ferent people walking for their loved ones.”
