2011 Buick Regal$26,245 - $28,745Buick brings back one of its well-known nameplates -- Regal -- for its new entry-luxury midsize sedan. Based on the Opel Insignia from Europe, the Regal has a striking resemblance to that model. It’s offered with a choice of four-cylinder engines, one of which is turbocharged. Competitors include the Volkswagen Passat and Acura TSX.

2011 Hyundai Sonata$19,195 - $25,295The Hyundai Sonata is a midsize sedan that competes with the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Ford Fusion in the crowded family-car segment. The Sonata was redesigned for the 2011 model year and receives much more distinctive styling and better gas mileage. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a hybrid model will be offered.

2011 gMc teRRain $24,250 - $31,400GMC’s Terrain is the twin to the Chevrolet Equinox. The five-seat crossover comes with front- or all-wheel drive with a four-cylinder or V-6 engine. With front-wheel drive and the four-cylinder, the EPA rates highway gas mileage at 32 mpg. Competitors include the Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.Trim levels include the base SLE and uplevel SLT. Characteristic of a crossover, the Terrain has a four-wheel-independent suspension and car-based frame -- a design that emphasizes ride comfort and fuel efficiency over off-road capability and towing.

2011 Mazda2$13,980 - $15,435Launched internationally in 2007, the subcompact Mazda2 arrives stateside for 2011 as Mazda’s entry-level offering. It’s only available as a hatchback and is slotted below the Mazda3. However, the Mazda2 has more standard features than its larger sibling. The Honda Fit looks to be a major Mazda2 competitor, as do a host of other small cars, from the Ford Fiesta and Chevy Aveo to the Nissan Versa and Toyota Yaris. The Mazda2 comes in Sport and Touring trim levels. Both employ a 100-horsepower, 1.5-liter four-cylinder. Manual and automatic transmissions are available.

2011 Buick enclave$35,615 - $44,095The Buick Enclave crowns GM’s newest batch of crossover SUVs, a group that also includes the GMC Acadia. Like its sibling, the Enclave offers three rows of seats standard, with seating for up to eight people. While the Acadia competes with garden-variety Hondas and Toyotas, Buick says the Enclave will go head-to-head with the Volvo XC90 and Acura MDX, among others.

2011 gMc SieRRa 1500$20,850 -- $48,190 The GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado share the same platform, but the GMC product is often positioned as a more upscale offering. Mechanically, the trucks are the same. There might be slight differences in curb weight and payload, but they share the same powertrain and chassis components. The Sierra comes in regular, extended and crew-cab forms. Standard (6-foot, 6-inch) and long (8-foot) cargo beds are available on regular and extended cabs, while the crew cab gets a short (5-foot, 9-inch) bed. All configurations are available in two- or four-wheel drive. Most V-8 models are rated to tow around 9,000 pounds, but some models get more than 10,000 pounds with an enhanced trailering package. A more efficient hybrid version is also available.

2011 Mazda6 Mazda’s midsize front-wheel-drive sedan benefits from a sportier nature than some of its competitors. The Mazda6 was redesigned for 2009 and now sports a more sophisticated exterior and interior design. It is also larger, making it more comparable to its competition. Inline-four-cylinder (in “i” models) and V-6 (“s” models) engines are available. Competitors include family sedans like the Honda Accord and Chevrolet Malibu.

2011 Hyundai Santa Fe The Santa Fe is a midsize crossover SUV that competes with models like the Nissan Murano. Though it still compares on many levels to the Toyota Highlander, the Santa Fe no longer offers a third-row seat, while the Highlander still does. Last year brought changes to the Santa Fe’s interior, exterior and drivetrains, including improved mileage.

2011 DoDge Ram Heavy Duty$35,120 -- $51,465 Last year, the Ram 1500’s big brothers, the Ram 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty pickups,

were overhauled. Almost everything above the heavy-duty Ram’s frame was brand new, including its aerodynamic exterior and all-new interior, which is shared with the Ram 1500. The front axle and suspension were strengthened to accommodate a wider range of snowplow prep packages for winter work. Hydraulic body mounts under the cabin

are said to smooth out freeway hop.A new four-door crew cab with bigger back doors and more rear passenger space replaced the previous, smaller four-door Quad Cab. Diesel and gas engines are offered.

2011 DoDge NitRo $22,245 - $28,995The Nitro SUV, which is related to the Jeep Liberty, features Dodge’s distinctive crosshair grille. Nitro competitors include the Nissan Xterra and Suzuki Grand Vitara. It seats five in two rows of seats.


2011 DoDge gRaND CaRavaN The Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country twins are the last remaining minivans offered by an American automaker. The minivan-originator, the Grand Caravan, is offered with a long list of interior, exterior and mechanical options.



2011 Ford Fiesta$13,320 - $17,120The Fiesta is Ford’s new subcompact car, intended to compete with models like the Honda Fit, Nissan Versa and Toyota Yaris. The 2011 Fiesta sedan and four-door hatchback are Americanized versions of Europe’s second-best-selling car, the current generation of which has been sold since 2008.The Fiesta marks Ford’s attempt to market the same basic car here that is sold in Europe at higher prices, by standardizing the basics and making optional some upscale features, including heated leather seats, automatic climate control, heated side mirrors, keyless entry and push-button engine start. Some of these features have never been seen in this price class.

2011 Ford F-150 Ford has a version of the F-150 to meet almost any buyer’s needs. In the time since the redesigned F-150 went on sale, the half-ton pickup has garnered numerous awards and recognition, including PickupTrucks.com’s Best Overall Light-Duty Pickup. There are three cab styles: regular, extended and crew cab. For 2011, the F-150 gets three new engine choices -- a 3.7-liter V-6, a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 and a 5.0-liter V-8.

2011 Ford Fusion$19,695 - $28,505Ford used the previous Fusion to usher in its new three-bar grille, which has been a hit with buyers. The new Fusion has an even bolder chrome grille, as if announcing to the world, “Yes, bigger is better.” In ascending order, trim levels are the S, SE, SEL and Sport. All-wheel drive is optional. There’s also a Fusion Hybrid version.

2011 Chevrolet Silverado heavy duty$27,965 - $44,950The 2011 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty might not look all that different from the outgoing model on the outside -- much like its parent company might not look significantly changed to a casual observer -- but underneath, almost everything has changed.What’s changed underneath? A better question is what hasn’t. The front stabilizer bar link that connects the stabilizer bar to the lower control arm is carried over from the 2007-10 HD pickup. That’s it.Much of the frame improvements were aimed at giving the 1-ton 3500 Silverado maximum towing and hauling capability in the segment. GM has Ford’s once-untouchable specs right in its crosshairs. Maximum trailering is up to 20,000 pounds with a dual-rear-wheel model pulling a fifth-wheel trailer with a Duramax diesel and up to 14,500 pounds pulling a fifth wheel-trailer with a single-rear-wheel 6.0-liter gas V-8.

2011 CadillaC SrX$33,830 -- $52,360 Redesigned last year, the SRX is about as different as a redesigned model can be from its predecessor. It’s still a midsize five-seat crossover, but it’s on a new front-wheel-drive platform, replacing the rear-drive version used from 2004 to 2009. All-wheel drive is still optional, but the new foundation promises mileage improvements and only a minor loss of passenger volume despite a decrease in the vehicle’s length. The SRX competes with the Acura MDX, Lexus RX and Lincoln MKX.

The coupe has a sleeker profile, and there are no visible door handles on the outside. The nose is subtly different, and the distinctive tail is marked by a center exhaust outlet. The 3.6-liter V-6, manual transmission and limited-slip differential are standard. All-wheel drive and an automatic transmission are optional. Two suspension tunings are offered, as are the sport seats from the performance-optimized CTS-V. A CTS-V coupe will also appear in 2010.

The lineup grows for 2011 with the addition of a station wagon and a 50-state diesel engine option for the sedan. In addition to extensive front-end restyling, it also has an updated interior. Though Mercedes has bulkier SUVs, the R-Class crossover is the company’s most spacious model. It comes in R350 gasoline-powered and R350 Bluetec diesel versions, each with standard 4Matic all-wheel drive. The R-Class competes with the Audi Q7, Acura MDX and BMW X5.

2011 Mercedes-Benz sls aMGMercedes re-enters the supercar market with the SLS AMG. The last time Mercedes swam in these waters, it partnered with the McLaren Formula One race team, but this car was designed completely in-house. Standout features include gull-wing doors and a 563-horsepower, 6.3-liter V-8 engine. Competitors include the Bentley Continental GT and Lamborghini Gallardo.
