Dear Friends:

We have reached the conclusion of a very diffi cult and challenging year. In the past year, CPS determined that it could not fund parenting classes, United Way funds further diminished, marriage programs that showed such wonderful promise were not renewed by the State, and the Mansfi eld and Bedford offi ces had to be closed due to budget issues. It was a year of news that would have sunk many organizations.

However, our resiliency and hope prevailed.

This year of uphill battles was met not by pessimism and entrenchment, but by an increase in positive energy and creativity. If we were having a tough year, our organization was determined to be stronger as a result of it. The Parenting Center’s supporters should be very proud of the response from the Executive Director and her talented and dedicated team. Let’s review!

This year’s Building Strong Families Luncheon featuring Linda Armstrong Kelly and honoring Justice Deborah Lehrmann in April was a resounding success. We made over $40,000 and also introduced the agency to many new people. The 18th Annual Tee it Up Fore Kids Golf Tournament raised just over $51,000 for The Parenting Center. We surpassed our goals and revenue expectations for both of these events which will allow us to help even more families in our service area.

At the beginning of the year, The Parenting Center added an additional evidence based curriculum, Nurturing Parenting, to enhance its parenting education program. Later in the year, the University of North Texas launched a study to research the long-term effectiveness of this renowned curriculum on The Parenting Center’s clients. This academic partnership underscores the agency’s focus in the area of effectiveness and self-assessment.

Quite possibly the biggest and best news of all: The Parenting Center received an $800,000 federal grant in October to begin the Empowering Families project. This one year grant to promote healthy marriages has the potential of being renewed for a total of three years. Additionally, the Texas Workforce Commission included The Parenting Center as a subcontractor in their Fatherhood grant, which will allow The Parenting Center to provide local parent education programs to fathers.

These are just a few of the many examples of how The Parenting Center is building strong families in our community. The 2011 Annual Report will show you how the year’s investment in the agency provided 14,222 individuals with the tools to succeed. Stronger parents. Stronger families. Stronger communities. That is The Parenting Center’s call to action.

Sincerely,

William Foust2011 Board President
