2011 was another year of growth for the Boys & Girls Club of Huntington County. Last year I reported that the average daily attendance increased from 80 kids per day at the Huntington site in 2009 to over 120 kids per day in Huntington and 25 kids per day in Warren in 2010. This past year, the daily attendance at the Huntington Club grew to over 130 kids per day and Warren added another 30 kids per day. That brings the overall number of kids in served on a daily basis to twice as many as just two years ago!
The goal of the Boys & Girls Club is not just to get as many kids as possible to enter the doors. The real goal is contained in the mission of the Club, “To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.” In order to enable all young peo-ple to reach their full potential, the Club implemented a new men-torship program. In the program, Club members are assigned a staff or community member to serve as their mentor. The program allows one-on-one, Club supervised and sponsored interaction between members and mentors to provide individualized direction toward the goal of developing productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
The outlook for the Boys & Girls Club in 2012 is for contin-ued growth. The Club is actively seeking growth in its membership, growth in its program offerings, growth in the quality and availability of its facilities, and growth in the positive impact on each and every member of the Club. I thank you for your past support and look
