    Enterprise KVM Solutions

  • ATEN International Co., Ltd. has specialized in connectivity and management solutions in information technology since its establishment in 1979, and is today considered the leading manufacturer of KVM switches worldwide. ATEN offers a broad range of solutions to meet the needs of consumers, small office/home office (SOHO) users, small and medium sized business (SMB) customers, and global enterprises.

ATENs s tate -of-the -ar t K VM switches are easy to use, highly integrated, and demonstrate ATENs commitment to innovation. For example, ATEN was first-to-market with a Cable KVM switch featuring a patented built-in cable design and tiny desktop footprint with full KVM switch functionality. Having recognized the increasing demand for USB and audio applications, ATEN also offers the CubiQ range of KVMP switches for desktop multimedia applications. Incorporating the latest advances in high-definition video and audio, these all-in-one solutions transform a KVM switch into a desktop control center.

Since 2002, ATEN has been expanding its ALTUSEN line of high-end server management solutions for the enterprise-level KVM switch market. Our product offerings in this sector have increased exponentially over the last few years and continue to develop to meet the demands of enterprise users. With a keen eye on your future enterprise growth, ATEN offers a new series of KVM Over IP products as a next-generation solution for expanding KVM applications. And to meet the demand for remote management, ATEN has recently upgraded its KVM on the NET range of external and embedded solutions that allow you to effectively manage your IT infrastructure from anywhere in the world.

ATEN has also consolidated its 30 years of video technology expertise into our new Applied Video Solutions range for a wide variety of corporate, industrial, commercial and home theater applications. Benefiting from numerous patented technologies, our VanCryst range of v ideo- integrated solutions include high-quality audio/video switches, splitters, extenders, and converters, available with VGA, DVI, HDMI, and high definition component video interfaces. Furthermore, the ProXime range of KVM extenders brings control closer to you wherever your instal lat ion is located. At ATEN, we are committed to protecting the environment. Our manufacturing operations are ISO 14001 certified and we are continually searching for ways to reduce their impact on the environment. In addition, we are fully compliant with both the European Union and Chinas RoHS directives restricting the use of hazardous materials in electronic products.

To offer the best service, we are continually expanding our presence throughout the world to better assist our partners and customers with localized solutions, services, and support. • Internal Power SupplyEvery ALTUSEN KVM switch features a built-in full range power supply not a bulky external power adapter

so that it will not horde valuable power strip space. Standard IEC power inlets also allow quick and easy

cable replacement if the original power cable is ever lost or misplaced.

Space-Saving DesignALTUSEN KVM switches are designed for real-world applications. Our engineers continually explore new

ways to conserve rack space for our customers. One example is the Dual Rail LCD KVM Switch. It offers a

space-saving, streamlined approach to KVM switch technology by integrating an LCD monitor, keyboard,

and touchpad in a Dual Rail housing. The Dual Rail housing is slightly less than 1U high for easy installation

and manipulation in 1U of rack space.

Firmware UpdatesIn keeping with our commitment to ongoing product support, we provide firmware updates for our KVM

switches. As firmware updates become available we place them on our website so that customers can easily

download and install them at their convenience.

Rigorous TestingALTUSEN KVM switches are rigorously tested to ensure that they meet our high-quality standards. At our

state-of-the-art research and design center, prototype KVM switches are put through a battery of tests to

eliminate problems. Such tests include, operating the switch for ten thousand continuous hours, operating

at elevated (or lowered) temperature levels and increased humidity, horizontal and vertical vibration tests,

and even robots that push the buttons thousands of times. To ensure product reliability, ALTUSEN products

have received certificates of compliance with the following standards CE, FCC, UL, TUV, PSE and ISTA 3A

    drop test.

New Levels of Accessibility Many ALTUSEN switches offer unrivalled levels of administrator accessibil ity, including platform-

independent, browser-based access via the Internet or LAN. Combining application-specific functionality

with unbeatable flexibility, the ALTUSEN range provides IT administrators with the management tools for

server rooms everywhere, both for now and in the future.

Exceptional Price PerformanceOne final reason to choose ALTUSEN KVM switches is the exceptional performance they offer at

considerably lower prices than the competition. Dollar for dollar, ALTUSEN enterprise-class KVM switches

outperform the competition. Our know-how and high-tech automated manufacturing process enable

us to produce superior KVM switches. We believe an efficient solution is a great benefit to server room

management, and providing the most economical and exceptional price performance solutions is one of our

    missions.

Quality EngineeringAt ATEN we believe that a KVM switch is neither greater than its design nor better than the sum of its parts. For this

reason, we employ engineers who are experts in their fields and provide them with an environment where they can

thrive and give wings to their ideas. Furthermore, we carefully select and test every component before it goes into

    our ALTUSEN enterprise-class KVM switches.

And we do not stop there. Throughout the design and production processes we continue testing to ensure that

when you buy ALTUSEN enterprise-class KVM switches, you get the reliability and performance you demand.

ASIC OnboardThe Application Specific Integrated Chip (ASIC) represents a new level in KVM switch reliability. By incorporating

our own patented ASIC into each new design, we enhance the functionality and compatibility of ALTUSEN products.

Moreover, our ASIC enables us to deliver unique KVM switch features at competitive costs to our customers while

maintaining our high mark of quality.

Easy InstallationMany ALTUSEN KVM switches provide a modular approach to network infrastructure management. Console modules

are required to connect consoles (monitor, keyboard, and mouse) to KVM switches, and KVM adapter cables

connect the KVM switches to servers. To help manage and arrange the cabling and installation, most KVM adapter

cables are equipped with an adjustable buckle and mounting bracket. The adjustable buckle keeps everything neat

and tidy, while the mounting bracket allows them to be fixed on the rack.

Detachable Front PanelMany ALTUSEN KVM switches have a unique, detachable front panel, enabling the switch to perfectly fit in any rack

depth. The front panel separates from the chassis for front-rack mounting, while the chassis can be mounted at the

rear of the rack. This design provides the utmost convenience because it allows users easy access to both the front

panel controls and rear panel connections. It also makes connecting computers to the switch a cinch.

Ten Reasons to Choose ALTUSEN Enterprise KVM Solutions

  • ALTUSEN, the enterprise-class KVM product l ine from ATEN,

provides a range of advanced IT infrastructure management

solutions that suit the server room needs of most companies and

    data centers.

ALTUSEN offers single console and multi-console KVM switches,

allowing users to control and manage multiple servers. You can

choose the KVM switches depending on the number of servers and

users, platforms, and server/console interfaces. ALTUSEN products

support the most popular connectivity interfaces available in the

market: PC, Mac, Sun, and Serial.

The ALTUSEN KVM Over the NET series of IP-based KVM control

units allows you to upgrade your IT management efficiency by

increasing productivity and reducing operational costs. KVM Over

the NET products utilize TCP/ IP for their communication protocol,

allowing operators to monitor, access, and troubleshoot multiple

server room assets from any computer on the Net whether

that computer is located down the hall, across the street, or

halfway across the world. ALTUSEN also offers Dual Rail LCD KVM

Switches to provide a space-saving, streamlined approach to KVM

switch technology by integrating an LCD monitor, keyboard and

touchpad in a Dual Rail housing. The ALTUSEN Dual Rail product

line maximizes space in your server room: the keyboard hides

away when not in use, while the thin profile LCD monitor provides

    continuous monitoring of computers.

ALTUSEN provides KVM Over the NET as well as Serial Over the

NET, Power Over the NET, and Guardian Over the NET. Most

of the Over the NET devices can be centrally controlled through

ALTUSEN Control Center Over the NET. Administrators can

control servers and serial devices, control the power, and monitor

the health of their network infrastructure using a single IP address.

ALTUSEN offers perfect options for enterprises. Regardless of the

platform, interface, the physical location, or the scale of server

room, with ALTUSEN you can consolidate and manage your network

    infrastructure from just about anywhere.

    KH1508A / KH1516A Cat 5 High-Density KVM Switch

Easy InstallationSetting up an ALTUSEN High-Density KVM Switch is fast and easy. All you have to do is simply plug the cables into their appropriate ports. And because the switch intercepts keyboard and mouse input directly, there is no software to configure; no need to get involved in complex installation routines; no need to be concerned with incompatibility problems.

Simple Space-saving CablingWith Cat 5e/6 cable offering complete KVM connectivity in one slim cable, an ALTUSEN Cat 5 High-Density KVM Switch installation reduces cable bulk while the unit itself comes in 1U-high housing for convenient rack mounting.

Long Distance TransmissionThe Cat 5 High-Density KVM Switches feature RJ-45 connectors and Cat 5e/6 cable to link to the computers. Combined with Signal Compensation, 1280 x 1024 signals can travel up to 50 m (163 ft*) eliminating the need for KVM extenders.

Multiplatform SupportUtilizing KVM Adapter Cables for the final linkup, ALTUSEN Cat 5 High-Density KVM Switches permit any combination of PCs, Macs, Sun computers, and serial devices to coexist on the installation.

Convenient Management FeaturesAccess to any computer on the installation is easily accomplished either by pressing the port selection pushbuttons located on the units front panel, entering hotkey combinations from the keyboard; or by means of a powerful menu driven OSD (On Screen Display) system. A convenient Auto Scan function also permits automatic scanning and one-by-one monitoring of the activities of selected computers.

Affordable, ExpandableAn ALTUSEN High-Density KVM Switch installation is affordable right now, yet will allow you to protect your original investment and your future. You can start out small and then can easily add additional units as your business grows. When your installation is ready to expand, simply daisy-chain additional switches.

Dedicated Expansion PortsHigh-Density KVM switches feature dedicated chain ports so you can daisy-chain up to 31 additional switches for a maximum centralized control of 512 systems from your original console.

    Adapter ID*

The Adapter ID Function stores port information such as the Adapter ID, OS, keyboard language, adapter name, etc. It enables administrators to relocate servers to different ports without having to reconfigure the adapters or change the user authorization settings of the KVM switch.

Non-blocked Access** Both consoles connected to the master switch have simultaneous access to any computer on the same level and also have independent access to any computer in the installation.

All-in-One Dual Rail DesignALTUSEN KL series of enterprise class LCD KVM Switches/LCD Consoles offer a space-saving, streamlined approach to KVM switching technology by integrating an independently retractable LCD monitor, keyboard, and built-in touchpad in a Dual Rail housing. The Dual Rail housing is less than 1U high for easy installation and manipulation in 1U of rack space. To maximize space in your data center, the keyboard hides away when not in use, while the thin profile LCD monitor reclines against the rack to enable continuous monitoring of computers.

Adjustable LCD PositioningErgonomic design allows the LCD module to rotate for a more comfortable viewing angle. ALTUSEN LCD KVM Switches/LCD Consoles rotate up to 120 for optimum comfort.

Second Console Port for Shared AccessLCD KVM Switches/LCD Consoles provide second console ports for connecting an extra KVM console. The second console can be added easily via the rear port that enables a user to control the KVM switch and servers from an external console. Or, connect a KVM extender or CN8000 KVM on the NET* to the second console port to provide remote access to the LCD KVM Switch/LCD Console and the attached servers.

    * The CN8000 from ATEN is an ultra-compact, over IP solution for remote access to computers and KVM installations. Please see ATEN catalog or www.aten.com for more details.

Extra Mouse PortLCD KVM Switches/LCD Consoles have the added convenience of a mouse port for customers who want to use an external mouse instead of the touchpad.

Port Selection via Pushbuttons, OSD, HotkeysThe LCD KVM Switches provide three port selection methods to access computers on the installation including Hotkey, OSD and manual. Many models also have conveniently located station and port selectors with 7-segment LED displays to quickly switch to target computers.

Dedicated Invocation KeysDedicated Invocation Keys allow you to conveniently invoke Hotkey and OSD modes. They reduce the number of keystrokes necessary to access important features.

Auto Scan / Broadcast SupportALTUSEN LCD KVM Switches feature auto scan functionality to scan and monitor the status of all connected computers. The scan interval can be set from 1255 seconds at the administrators convenience. In addition, many models feature time-saving broadcast functionality that allows your commands from the keyboard to be broadcast to all available computers on the installation.

Console LockThe semi-automatic lock/unlock design enables the keyboard module to remain securely locked away in position when sliding the LCD out. When finished, just flip the cover down and unlock the release catch, then slide the module away. This function makes control and operation more safe, secure and convenient.

Icon IndicatorsEach LCD KVM Switch has helpful labels and intuitive, color-coded icons which help users to operate the device more easily.

    * Not all products support these features. Please see the comparison table for difference.

16 17Control Center Over the NET

Physical server sales diminished in 2009 as a result of an increased migration to virtual server systems. Recently,

however, due to older equipment replacement, and a greater emphasis on cloud computing, the server market

has rebounded, which has resulted in larger, more sophisticated, data centers than ever before. ATEN's CC2000

Management Software updated with new, powerful, features including VMware support provides IT

administrators with the tools they need to access and control their entire distributed data center environment.

Offering convenient, economical, centralized management of all their IT devices, the CC2000 Management Software

puts administrators in complete control of their remote data centers and branch offices no matter where in the

    world they are deployed.

When used in conjunction with any Over the NET product (KVM Over the NET, Serial Over the NET, Power

Over the NET), the CC2000 management software allows IT administrators to remotely monitor and control all

installed devices, including blade servers and virtual machines. The CC2000's Master-Slave architecture safeguards

data transmissions through built-in redundancy factors, including automated database backup of Master, Slaves and

devices in addition to real-time database updating. Redundancy ensures that should any of the CC2000 servers go

down, the CC2000 management system will keep functioning, since a redundant slave unit takes over and provides

the required services until the master unit comes back up. This double redundancy feature, in which each slave

server can have its own redundant slave, ensures smooth, uninterrupted access management of all your devices.

Centralized Control and ManagementCC2000 management software provides centralized management of remotely distributed IT devices. This includes ATEN/ALTUSEN Over the NET devices such as Power Over the NET, Serial Over the NET, and KVM over the NET as well as redirection to other generic devices.

Master-Slave ArchitectureCC2000 management software uses a Master-Slave architecture to offer service redundancy with real-time database updating. With this feature, a Slave server can substitute for the Master if the Master server fails. Redundancy also means that should any of the CC2000 servers go down, its function and information is not lost a redundant slave unit can take over to provide the required management services until the downed unit comes back up. In addition, double redundancy ensures smooth system management, since if a slave server in a remote site goes down, its redundant slave server will take over to provide the required management services.

Easy to use interfaceThe CC2000 offers a user-friendly, intuitive, browser-based GUI for simplified access to IT equipment in global data centers and remote offices. The browser-based GUI offers a multilanguage interface to minimize user training time and increase productivity.

Task SchedulingTime and date scheduling of routine tasks, updates, configurations and file loading that can be performed across the installation couldn't be easier. Automatic scheduling of system and maintenance tasks include: exporting event logs, power controlling devices, upgrading the firmware of selected devices, export device log, and the backup of master server database, the device configuration and account information.

Logging, Audits and AlertsThe CC2000 offers a wide array of flexible logging and reporting options with audit trails for diagnostics and troubleshooting. Powerful search functions and extensive sorting and filtering of log categories to quickly pinpoint the events you are searching for are also provided. Complete logs, as well as log search results can be exported for audit and analysis.

Panel DynaArray View the output of multiple ports in individual panels on the same screen. The panel allows you to be flexible open, move, resize and close displays easily. This enables you to monitor priority devices or cascade panels accordingly.

Virtualization SupportVirtualization lets offices consolidate their server rooms, such that fewer physical servers are needed to perform the same tasks. This not only saves hardware cost and power consumption, but also increases the efficiency and longevity of the companys network infrastructure.

Multiple Sessions, Concurrent AccessKVM Over the NET switches support up to 5 buses, allowing 1 local and 4 remote user access. With multiple login support, up to 32 users can log in at the same time to securely monitor, manage, troubleshoot, or run applications for connected devices.

Share Mode SupportThree types of Share Mode are available for each port: Exclusive, Occupy and Share, Exclusive: The first user to switch to the port has exclusive control over the port. Occupy: The first user to switch to the port has control over the port. Up to 32 users may view the ports video output. Share: Up to 32 users simultaneously share control.

Panel Array ModePanel array mode permits simultaneous monitoring of the video output of the installations servers. Operators can monitor the screen display of up to 40 servers for server monitoring.

Message BoardTo alleviate the problem of access conflicts arising from multiple logins, the Message Board functions like an Internet chat program, allowing users who are logged in to instantly communicate with each other.

Power Association NEW!Used in conjunction with ATEN/ALTUSEN PDUs power management device, you can associate a KVM Over the NET Switchs port with a PDUs power outlet, and then manage the power operation of a server from the switchs interface a single interface point. It also enables you to associate a second outlet port if the server has a dual power supply, and lets you synchronize the operation for both power supplies. In this way, Power Association reduces maintenance time and increases management efficiency

Dual IP/Dual PowerDual IP Dual Power supply operation provides the backup redundancy and reliability. Should one of the IP or one of the power supplies become unavailable, the other will take over in order to keep the system functioning normally.

Magic PanelA special hideaway control panel with configurable function icon enables you to control and manage the servers more conveniently.

Ease-to-use user interfaceA user-friendly, intuitive GUI provides convenient access, configuration and operation. Local Console, browser-based and AP GUIs offer a unified multilanguage interface to minimize user training time and increase productivity.

Multi-Keyboard Language Support On-Screen KeyboardThe switches support multiple keyboard language input including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Traditional Chinese. There is no need to have a separate keyboard for each language.

Virtual Remote Desktop* The remote desktop can appear full-screen or as a window with a flexible scaling video display. Advanced features such as the Message Board, Mouse DynaSync, Virtual Media, and Keyboard Pass Through, create a Virtual Remote Desktop that allows users to operate servers from remote locations just as if they were actually at the local site.* Not all products support all the Virtual Remote Desktop features

Mouse DynaSync Automatically synchronizes the local and remote mouse movements for perfect alignment of mouse pointers, regardless of server mouse acceleration settings.

Intelligent Bus Assignment Flexible Port SwitchingWith Intelligent Bus Assignment users are automatically assigned to one of four buses as they log in. With Flexible Port Switching, up to 32 users can be flexibly distributed over 4 separate bus sessions and multiple users are allowed to share access to one server for maximizing system efficiency.

Adapter IDThe Adapter ID Function stores port information such as the Adapter ID, OS, keyboard language, adapter name, and etc. This enables administrators to relocate the servers to different ports, without having to re-configure the adapters and the switches.

Virtual MediaVirtual Media support lets you map DVD/CD-ROMs and other storage media to a remote server. This function allows you to conduct file transfers, application and OS patches, and diagnostics remotely.

Green IT Variable Fan SpeedThe switches have support for four temperature sensors that can control up to six fans. The sensors regulate the fans to run at optimum speed, using energy more efficiently and prolonging the life of both the fans and the switch.

Audio EnabledThe switches are audio enabled. On the local unit, speakers and a microphone are supported; while remote units offer support for speakers only.

Blade Server SupportSupport for blade server associations with KVM switch ports allows the blade server chassis and individual blades to be integrated into the sidebar tree view and can be accessed as devices connected to the port.

Improved SNMP TrapMonitor the critical events on your system and customize the settings according to your needs. Logged events are divided into categories providing clear and complete information to administrators.

Not all products support these features. Please see the comparison table for difference.
