Mission Statement

Youth Services Emergency Response Rehabilitation

Disaster Relief Spiritual Ministry

Adult Rehabilitation Center

The Salvation Army’s ADULT REHABILITATION CENTER (ARC) provides spiritual, social and emotional assistance for men who have lost the ability to cope with their problems and provide for themselves. The center offers residential housing, work, and group and individual therapy, all in a Christian environment. The physical and spiritual care that program participants receive prepares them to re-enter society, reunite with their families, return to gainful employment and resume productive lives.

The ARC of Genesee County accommodates 121 participants and is open to men from Genesee, Saginaw, Midland, Bay, Ingham and Shiawassee counties. The Family Thrift Stores in these counties provide revenue to fund ARC operations, as it receives no government funding. In fiscal year 2011-2012:

420 men received 26,770 days of care

88,777 (duplicated) participants were in classes/services for rehabilitation

117,018 meals were served and 17,625 additional services were provided

sixty five men completed the six month rehabilitation program and

686,562 customers benefited from The Salvation Army Family Stores in our service area.

The Flint Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center generated

$7,344,807 and had $7,231,686 in expenses. The net income of $113,121

helped offset the year end deficit from the prior year.

Service to Community

The Salvation Army, a Christian organization, has been providing spiritual ministry, emergency assistance for basic needs, and programs for children and families in Genesee County since July 26, 1893.

William Booth, who founded The Salvation Army in London, England, in 1865, dedicated his life to preaching the Gospel and serving suffering humanity. Since then, The Army has reached out to virtually every corner of the world, operating in 124 countries and territories for over 148 years.

For 120 years, The Salvation Army of Genesee County has continued William Booth’s work by assisting with the most basic spiritual and physical needs. Families who are in the process of losing their homes to evictions or foreclosures, or residents who are struggling to keep food on the table or pay their utility bills know they can turn to The Salvation Army for help. Thousands of Genesee County’s residents have been helped by the Army since 1893 and tens of thousands more have helped the Army in its mission to share the love of God through service to others.

Thank you for enabling us to do the most good.

“...there is no reward equal to that of doing the most good to the most people in the most need.”

- Evangeline Booth

Volunteer Activity

The Salvation Army continues to count its blessings for the many volunteers that support its mission during the Christmas Season and throughout the entire year.

The following volunteer statistics include volunteer hours at the kettles and during the Christmas distribution process; time given to assist with office tasks; time spent on the canteen by Emergency Disaster Service volunteers and time given by members of the Advisory Board:

In fiscal year 2011-2012 (October 2011 through September 2012), 526 individuals or groups volunteered 7,504 hours.

During the 2012 Christmas Season (late October 2012 through December 2012), 319 individuals or groups volunteered 6,760 hours - a savings of $147,300.

More than 200 seasonal workers were utilized to help staff the Red Kettles during the seven week campaign in 2012, providing much needed job skills and income for underemployed Genesee County families.
