INFORMATION

The braking system is a critical component of any vehicle and literally controls the safety of drivers, passengers, and anyone else sharing the road. The tubing which carries the braking fluid between the master cylinder and the slave cylinders at the wheels is a vital part of this system. This tubing is extremely susceptible to the high-pressure it must handle (during braking) and the environment (adverse weather, road treatments, and road debris) to which it is continuously exposed. AGS lines and coils are made of the most advanced materials and processes available today. Our tubing construction and coatings allow for the most workable, corrosion resistant, and safest product possible. In addition, the quality of the flares (end-forms) and tube nuts of all AGS lines meet and exceed standards for the best seal possible. While the vast majority of vehicles utilize 3/16", 1/4", or 6mm diameter tubing for brake applications, all AGS lines offer the same advanced construction and technology. EZ-BEND ® Technology refers to the combined features of the AGS Poly-Armour ® lines and coils that make them easy to work with and bend. In the case of 3/16” diameter lines and coils, bending tools are not even necessary. All lines and coils (including AGS Standard Steel) are kink-proof and will retain shape after bending.

FITTINGSAGS Fittings are comprised of Tube Nuts, Unions (Couplers), and Adapters; used primarily in the automotive hydraulic braking, fuel, and transmission systems. Fittings are offered in a variety of packag-ing options, including: retail clam-shells, bulk boxed, and plastic tray assortments. The following provides guidelines for selecting and identifying fittings.

Automotive hydraulic brake fittings are formed to work with either SAE Inverted Double Flare (Domestic and Japanese vehicles) or ISO Bubble Flare (European and British vehicles). In either case, the fitting (whether a Tube Nut, Union, or Adapter) must be selected to match the end form of the tube or port it will be mating to or a proper seal will not be possible.

The charts and diagrams on the left refer to the standard thread measures for the nominal tube sizes and how they are determined for both imperial and metric fittings. Non-standard thread sizes do exist for each of the nominal tube sizes however and this is only used as a guide. Example: BLF-41 has a tube size of 3/16” and a thread measure of 1/2-20.

Measuring Imperial Threads: Measure the O.D. of the threads and the number of threads in one inch.

Measuring Metric Threads: Measure the O.D. of the threads and the crest to crest distance (pitch) in millimeters between threads.

ISO Bubble Flare SAE Inverted Flare

Tube nuts are used in all types of automotive hydraulic lines, including: brake, fuel, oil, and transmission. To make connection, place nut over the tubing with the threaded end pointed towards the end to be flared (repeat on other end of tube). The tube flare will be clamped between the nut and the flare seat when tightened.

FITTINGS

Unions are used to join two brake, fuel, or transmission lines together. This may be needed, for example, in long runs from the dual master cylinder to the rear axle. Match the thread and flare type to the lines being connected. It is important that both flare type and thread match for a leak-proof connection.

Use for joining 3/16” Domestic brake lines.

UNIONS

Compression unions are used in low pressure application such as: air, oil, and water. They are generally used to connect lengths of copper, brass, and aluminum tubing. To make connection, place the nut and then the sleeve over the tubing and then insert tube into the fitting body. When tight, the wedging action of sleeve between body and nut create a leak free connection.

Sil-Glyde® Brake Lubricant is a silicone-based brake lubricant recommended for the entire brake assembly and is compatible with rubber. It is moisture-proof and heat resistant to over 425˚F (218˚C), which means it won’t burn-off like other brake noise products. Using AGS brake lubricant is one of the keys to eliminating disc brake squeal.

Thread-Magic® Avoid stuck plugs and bolts. Assure easy removal on aluminum and cast iron components to prevent seizing, galling, and damage during disassembly. Suggested Applications: Spark plugs, bolts, and fasteners.

Silicone Brake Fluid is specially formulated, high-temperature fluid required in some modern brake systems. Reduces corrosion in the braking system. Provides even braking performance in temperatures from -75˚F to +600˚F. Recommended for Domestic, European, and Japanese vehicles. Excellent for motorcycles, heavy duty vehicles, and trailer units.

Mr. Penetrant® Proven and trusted to be more effective in breaking-up rust than spray-on petroleum products. Innovative “Squirt On” Applicator gets product quickly where it needs to go. Perfect for chassis bolts that are rusted in place.

Oil Drain Plug and Filter Thread Sealant Prevent engine damaging oil leaks with AGS Thread Sealant. Apply to threads on all types of all filters and oil drain plugs to prevent freeze-ups. Allows for easier, safer, and trouble-free removal.
