In this workbook, children are experienced to form different shapes ofpeople from a tangram puzzle. With these activities, children explore anddiscover the relationship among the geometric shapes of the tangrampieces that are triangles, a square and a parallelogram. In addition,tangram puzzle is a great way to teach children to stretch theirimagination. This workbook is suitable for children all ages.

How to Play Tangram

Tangram is an ancient Chinese puzzle consisting of seven pieces that arefive triangles, one square and one parallelogram. The basic rules ofplaying tangram are the seven pieces of tangram must be used, theymust lay flat and touch without overlapping.

Use the tangram patterns on this page or page 24 to print a tangram ortangrams on a thick paper, such as a photo paper. These patterns havethe same size as the tangram activities used in this workbook, page 1through 20. The tangram activity on the left page is designed foryounger children. In this activity, they will learn to recognize and matchthe tangram shapes. The next step on the right page is the activity toform a person shape, given only the silhouette. For older children oradults can use page 21 for the silhouettes and page 22 for the solutions.Large tangram patterns can be found on page 23.
