Our student chapter President, Randy Floresca and Vice President, Jeff Yan attended the 2010 SAE World Congress in Detroit, Michigan. Sponsored by our SAE International Mid-Cal professional section, our two officers spent three days and two nights representing our San Jose State University student chapter to over 10,000 engineering industry professionals from all over the world. They represented SJSU and handed out fliers, displayed posters, and played videos that showcased and explained the projects and programs our student chapter participates in. They were ex-hibited amongst other student chapters, including Western Michigan University, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Lawrence Tech University, and Duke. The event housed over 80 exhibitors including Honda, GM, Chrysler, and TARDEC. There were also techni-cal seminars / classes, Ride and Drive’s, a career fair, and even an elementary school Jet Toy competition.

During their stay, they also had the opportunity to vis-it the SAE International student chapters at University of Michigan Ann Arbor and Lawrence Tech University. They were given facility tours of their machine shops and labs. They also had a sneak peak of the U of M Ann Arbor 2010 Formula SAE racecar and Lawrence Tech University’s 2010 Formula Hybrid and Formula SAE racecars.

Every year, San Jose State University’s College of Engineering hosts a banquet awarding alumni, faculty, and students for their accomplishments and contributions to the engineering society. This year SAE International was in attendance since our very own President, Randy Floresca, was awarded the Donald Beall-Rockwell Stu-dent Award for Engineering Accomplishment.

At the banquet, students from the College of Engineering were seated with industry professionals from such companies such as Cisco, Novellus, and our proud sponsor, Club Auto Sport to mingle and network with po-tential employers. Over a hundred professionals and students were treated to an exquisite three course meal along with speeches from guest speakers, awardees, and even a raffle for prizes at the end.

Congratulations to all the awardees!

Our student chapter has been volunteering for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and its Sport Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula since 2008. Earlier in the month we were invited to their volunteer orientation where we were officially rec-ognized as one of their volunteering organizations. Presentations were made by the SCRAMP President, Dean Fewtrell and Vice President of Administration, Kathy Hayworth. There was also an awards cer-emony recognizing volunteers that have contributed many years of dedicated service to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and the Monterey community.

After the orientation, a few of our members had the opportunity to check out some of the historic cars and racing action on the track.
