Dear Students,

I’d like to welcome you to Ivy Tech Community College - Bloomington, as this year brings more exciting developments to campus. Our comprehensive community college mission to develop a skilled and trained workforce and to change the lives of our students directs and energizes our activities on your behalf.

We now offer more than 450 credit hours that transfer to Indiana University Bloomington, as well as courses and associate degrees that transfer to other Indiana four-year institutions. We continue to develop new academic programs for you such as health information technology, hospitality, respiratory care, biotechnology, and radiation therapy to meet the needs of our regional employers.

As we expand our offerings in the Student Life area, we continue to provide opportunities to get involved in sports, student politics, campus activities, and more. We are committed to creating an educational environment for you that both values and models civic engagement and community service.

Main Building Hours: Monday - Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 10 p.m. Saturday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

For non-instructional days, we are open: 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Friday, and closed on Saturday. The campus is always closed on Sunday barring a special event. All regions share the same start/end dates for fall and spring terms. Tobacco-Free CampusIvy Tech’s Bloomington campus is tobacco-free. Smoking or any use of tobacco on college owned or leased property is prohibited. Individuals using tobacco products in personal vehicles parked on college property must extinguish and dispose of tobacco debris in the car before exiting the vehicle. Violations will result in disciplinary actions outlined in the student handbook. Locations included in the tobacco ban are the Main Campus, Indiana Center for the Life Sciences, Liberty Drive location, and the John Waldron Arts Center. ParkingIt is the responsibility of all students and employees to read, understand, and abide by the Ivy Tech - Bloomington campus parking regulations. A complete list of rules and regulations can be found at the main campus entrance. The regulations govern the driving and parking of motor vehicles at Ivy Tech Community College – Bloomington. Ivy Tech Community College students and employees must obtain a parking hangtag for each vehicle driven to the campus. Hangtags are available free of charge and are to be displayed on the rear view mirror of the vehicle while it is parked on campus. Please note that Ivy Tech Community College is not responsible for the damage to any vehicle while parked on campus nor is the College responsible for loss of personal property in any vehicle. SecurityThe College has designated specific employees who are responsible for addressing security-related matters. During regular building hours any security related issue should be reported by contacting campus security by dialing “0” on a campus phone or (812) 332-1559. Campus Security is located at all Ivy Tech - Bloomington locations. The receptionist can also assist in reaching security officers.

We encourage you to get involved with Ivy Tech-Bloomington outside of the classroom. There are a number of opportunities and resources that are available to help you reach your potential. Please take your education seriously and make it a priority. If you need help, please be sure to ask. Student Identification CardsAll students are required to have an Ivy Tech Community College Student Identification Card in their possession while on campus. Student ID cards are free and available during orientation and in the Human Resources office throughout the semester. You must be registered for classes to receive an ID card. Students are also required to get a new sticker specific to each semester for their ID card.

Your education must be a priority if you are going to be successful. Earning a college degree is challenging, but the reward is worth every bit of sacrifice. Please take your education seriously and know there are resources on campus to aid in your success. Earning a college degree is a great experience when you are in charge of your academic career. Good luck and remember to set goals and share them with your family and friends.

Academic Support Center (ASC)The Academic Support Centers (ASC) at Liberty and the main campus are eager to help you improve study skills; become a more successful writer; effectively use learning technology such as Blackboard and Campus Connect, and word processing software; help you with time management, stress reduction, and test anxiety; improve your math skills; and engage with peers and staff in a dynamic learning environment. Library (Main Campus)Students may check out books and magazines for two week periods. Many current textbooks are available for use inside the Library. Private study carrels, as well as computer workstations, are located in the Library. Your must have a student ID card to check out materials.

Recreational SportsIvy Tech-Bloomington has recreational sports you may participate in throughout the year. The campus typically has teams that play basketball, dodgeball, flag football, softball, and volleyball. Sports activities are not limited to the previous list. If you would like to play a sport that you do not see on the list, please visit the Assistant Director of Student Support and Development, or call (812) 330-6333 to learn how easy it is to start a team.

Clubs and OrganizationsSign-ups continue throughout the year, but you are encouraged to sign up during Welcome Week at the beginning of the fall or spring semester. Clubs and organizations are usually not active in the summer sessions. If there is not a club or organization that interests you, you can start one that does! Please visit the Assistant Director of Student Support and Development or call (812) 330-6333.

FINANCIAL AID

Financial aid is money to help you pay for college. If you qualify, financial aid can help pay for tuition and fees, books and supplies, and other related costs such as housing, food, transportation and personal expenses. Ivy Tech offers grants and scholarships (free money), student and parent loans (repayment required) and Work Study.

To apply for most aid programs, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

To receive financial aid, your admission file must be complete and you must be enrolled in an eligible certificate or degree program. Satisfactory academic progress standards must also be maintained in order to receive financial aid. Remember, you must be in a degree-seeking program in order to receive federal financial aid.

Financial aid award notices are posted on your Campus Connect account. Check your account for current information. Adding, withdrawing or dropping classes can impact your financial aid. If you are considering a change in your schedule, we advise you to contact the financial aid office before doing so.

Veterans and students receiving Veterans Education Assistance should meet with the Veterans Education Benefit Certifying Official prior to registration. Applications, update forms and worksheets may be required to process your benefits. The Veterans Benefit Certifying Official is located in the Financial Aid office.

Financial Aid Office Hours: The financial aid staff is available for walk-in appointments Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Making PaymentsStudents can pay via cash, check, Money Order, Visa, MasterCard or Discover.

Tuition is due the Friday before classes begin. If the student wishes to pay his/her bill in installments, then deferred payment arrangements must also be established with the Business Office. Please see the Business Office for details.

Students can pay on the Web using Payment Gateway (accessed through Campus Connect), mail payment to: Business Office, Ivy Tech Community College, 200 Daniels Way, Bloomington, IN 47404. Please call the Business Office at (812) 330-6075 to pay with a credit card, or stop by the office Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Financial PlanningMake a budget for the semester that includes all of your expenses (tuition, books, car payments, etc.).

Do not borrow more than you need - student loans must be paid back.

Be careful with credit cards - the average credit card interest rate is 17%.

Tips for SuccessAttend class.1. Study.2. Get involved. Studies show the more involved stu-3. dents are, the more successful they are in school.Share your goals with your family and friends. 4. Friends and family can feel like they are going to school too because of your schedule, but let them know why you are making sacrifices and why school is a priority.Take school seriously. This is not an extension of 5. high school. For every hour spent in class, three hours should be spent studying.Practice time management. Create a realistic study 6. schedule with your other time commitments in mind (family, work, etc).Set goals. Goals should be written down and 7. reviewed frequently.Don’t be afraid to ask for HELP!8. Don’t procrastinate!9. Plan ahead. Review your course curriculum early 10. and often.

Counseling and OutreachStudent Development and the Indiana University Center for Human Growth provide services to Ivy Tech students in the form of individual counseling and personal growth groups.

All counseling is provided on a confidential basis and typically last 50 minutes. Counseling is tailored to an individual’s needs and may include topics such as: personal development, relationship skills, balancing work, family, and school, time management, family problems, anxiousness, grief and loss, stress management, communicating with others, feeling down, boyfriend/girlfriend troubles.
