The Redhawks will take on Cal State Bakersfield (4-6-5) on Friday, Oct. 29, in a 7 p.m. match in Bakersfield, Calif. head coach julie woodward14th season/seattle university ‘93 The dean of coaches at Seattle University, Julie Woodward has earned the respect of her peers with her style of coaching. With such an accomplished coaching resume, in 2009 Woodward helped guide the Redhawks through their first full season at the NCAA Division I level. During her 13 coaching seasons, she boasts 12 winning seasons, establishing her as the winningest coach in SU women’s soc-cer history with a 182-67-23 overall record

and a .711 winning percentage. Seattle University’s former two-time NAIA All-American soc-cer player came home to her alma mater as the head coach of the Redhawks women’s soccer program over a decade ago. She has coached the Redhawks to three NCAA Division II Tournament ap-pearances (2004, 2006 and 2007). A 2004 Far West Coach of the Year, she boasts three NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division II honorees, 18 Far West Region selections, three GNAC Player’s of the Year, eight GNAC all-conference team honorees and 27 players who have earned NAIA All-America accolades. Her team’s have also boasted great academic success in her tenure, including a 2007 NCAA Woman of the Year, five ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans and 19 ESPN The Magazine All-District selections.

After conceding an 11th minute goal to the Buffaloes, Seattle U’s leading scorer Emma Levy responded in the 19th minute to even the score. The Red-hawks took CU to a 1-1 double overtime draw. SU remains unbeaten in overtime contests this season.

What Woodward Says: “We are excited to conclude the road half of the schedule, after being on the road for the last four games. We are look-ing forward to heading to Cali-fornia to play a pair of solid teams and be in the sun,” said head coach Julie Woodward.

No. 9 in the West:The Redhawks moved up a place in the NSCAA Regional Poll this week. Currently Se-attle U is tied-9th in the West Region. They have been in the poll for a majority of the sea-son, being ranked as high as No. 8.

Levy Continues to Score:Sophomore transfer Emma Levy has been an offensive leader all season for the Red-hawks. She scored her sixth career goal and of the season this past weekend at Colorado, to lead the team in the catego-ry. She also has three assists for 15 points on the season.

The Kuttler Counter:Senior captain Kara Kuttler continues to rise on the all-time Seattle U goal scorers list. She currently is ninth all-time with 24 career goals. Kuttler has four goals and a pair of assists for 10 points on the season.

Closing Out the Road Swing:The Redhawks will conclude their six game road swing this weekend with their pair of matches in the Golden State.

In the Golden State:Seattle U currently sports a 3-1 record when playing in California. They saw their only loss this past week to UC San-ta Barbara 1-0.

Unbeaten in Overtime:The Redhawks remain unbeat-en in overtime contests this season. Seattle U is 2-0-2 in all four double overtime con-tests played this season.

Redhawk Invite Champs!: Behind a pair of victories and being the only team to go per-fect at the Redhawk Invita-tional, the Seattle U women’s soccer team earned their first NCAA DI tournament title since reclassifying back. Ava Ames was named tournament MVP, and Julia Besango, Mo-nique Escalera and Emma Levy were named to the all-tournament team.

Scouting Cal State Bakersfield:

The Last Time Seattle U Faced CSUB:

This will be the second con-secutive season the Redhawks will travel to CSUB. In their last meeting on Oct. 16, SU defeated Bakersfield 3-1. Goals from Jamie Coe, Jamie Peterson and a final one from Kara Kuttler in the first half solidified the victory.

SU and CSUB will close out the 2010 regular season in Seattle on Saturday, Nov. 6, in a 1 p.m. match.

Scouting Cal StateNorthridge:

Cal State Northridge snapped a two game winning streak with a 2-1 edging at Long Beach on Oct. 24. Prior to the loss, they had defeated UC Riverside and Cal State Bakersfield.

This season the Matadors have played four ranked squads, falling in each contest. They did take then-No. 18 UC Irvine to double overtime, before fall-ing 1-0 on Oct. 15.

Leading the CSUN offense this season is Farryn Townley, who

has five goals and an assist for 11 points in 18 games. Sonia Espitia leads the team in as-sists, with three. She also has two goals in 18 games.

Between the posts, Cynthia Jacobo has been the Matadors primary goalkeeper. She has seen action in all 18 games played and posts a 10-8 re-cord. She has six shutouts, behind a 1.11 goals against average and 78 saves. She’s allowed 20 goals in 1618:09 minutes of work. Haley Hawes has seen 25:33 minutes of work over two games, allowing one goal.

The Last Time Seattle U Faced CSUN:

This will be the first meeting between SU and CSUN since reclassifying back to NCAA Di-vision I.
