What’s your pleasure? Enjoying a peaceful stroll beside a gently moving creek? Gathering the family for a night under the stars, complete with campfire and marshmallows? Reeling in the big one? Skimming across the lake on skis? Perhaps some swimming in spring fed lakes and streams and a picnic on the beach.

Or, maybe you are the type looking for the escape from the big city, sleeping in with no alarm to jar you into reality. Your most strenuous activity might be a little “retail therapy” as you gather up treasures, followed by some time on the massage table and someone else taking care of you.

What ever your pleasure is, you will find it in the Arbuckles. From north to south, this patch of God’s great earth is blessed with beautiful waters, diverse ecosystems of prairie and forest and geological formations. Lakes, rivers, creeks and springs lend to all types of water sports and peaceful retreats. National, state and city parks offer family fun and historical information on our surroundings. South Central Oklahoma’s

jewel is the Arbuckle Mountains, which are said to be a geological window into our past and a classroom to many modern day students. With I-35 slicing through them, the unusual formations are laid open for all to see.

With an abundance of activities and businesses to serve you and friendly people to welcome you, we hope your visit to the Arbuckles will be memorable. The Fun Times Magazine has been created to assist you on planning and enjoying your time in this land we love. Now in our 25th year, Fun Times Magazine continues to serve the visitor to the Arbuckle Area with information such as references to services, maps to cities and parks, listings of attractions, informative stories and invitations from area businesses.

The Arbuckles are a great place to visit in any season. We hope you enjoy your time here…and come back soon!

A rbuckle Wilderness is located just off Interstate 35 at exit 51, only two miles from another of nature’s wonders, Turner Falls. Exit 51 is less than two hours from the Dallas Metroplex and about an hour south of Oklahoma City. The park has undergone considerable renovations with new habitats, educational programs, attractions, and animals.

A new feature for 2010 is the Geological Park. This new exhibit includes over 2 miles of ancient history and signage about one of the oldest and most visually unique mountain regions in the world, the Arbuckle Mountains. Looking at these rock formations is like taking a peek at the interior of the earth, pushed up and out for viewing. You will be able to see work that has taken millions of years to produce.

A scenic drive through the animal park starts your adventure. The park is filled with exotic animals from all over the world including camels, tigers, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, elands, oryxes, buffalo, wilderbeast and many more. The park has recently added several new species to the exhibit and more are planned. Feed the free roaming animals from the comfort of your vehicle or take a guided tour on our safari buses (requires a minimum).

After you drive through, park your car and continue to our walk-thru area. Here you will find an array of animals, such as monkeys, African porcupines, kangaroos, lemurs and more, and the petting zoo. In addition, our amusement area includes go karts, moon bounces, bumper cars, bumper boats, and more. Make a stop at our new reptile house for a close look. If it is time for a break, why not enjoy snacks and drinks in the walk-thru park. Afterwards, have fun shopping in the largest safari-themed gift store in the region. Featured are an

Go Wild at Arbuckle Wilderness!

incredible array of souvenirs, handcrafted Indian artifacts, educational gifts, stuffed animals, t-shirts, jewelry and much more.

Group programs are available for school and family groups, organizations, fund raising events, corporate picnics, birthday parties and more. Your group outing will include a safari bus ride through the park, an all-you-can-eat cookout, outdoor recreational activities at the pavilion and time at the walk-thru park and amusement area. Groups require only a 25-person minimum and arrangements can be made through our sales and marketing department.

Admission fees vary based upon the program chosen. Our general admission price is only $16.99 for adults and $14.99 for children ages 3 to 11. This includes both the safari drive-thru and the walk-thru and amusement area. Seniors (over 55) save a buck on admissions. Go karts, bumper boats and moon bounce and bumper cars are seasonal and have additional charges. RV sites and cabins are also available. For additional recorded information, phone 1-800-PETPARK, visit our web site at www.arbucklewilderness.com, or phone 1-580-369-3383.

20 beautifully manicured acres dedicated to our guests’ comfort

Getting away to the Arbuckles is a year-round possibility. The south-central section of the great state of Oklahoma is blessed with moderate weather in all seasons. Mother Nature a la Arbuckles dresses herself in splendor for visitors at all times.

The most common time to visit the area is in the Summer. Schools are out and family activities abound. If the going gets too hot, the hot get go-ing to one of the many lakes, streams or rivers for a cool down. And there is always an air-conditioned adventure to be found just around the corner.

Autumn in the Arbuckles is awesome! The temps are milder and the pace is slower. You will still find plenty to do, but the opportunity to stroll through a weekend instead of run and to enjoy God’s handiwork with fall foliage and changing scenery, is worth the effort it takes to “gear down.”

Winter here has a beauty of its own. In nature, winter is a time when plants and animals rest and prepare for the spring. Maybe we should heed the advice. Even in the winter, temperatures are still mild enough most of the time for a walk in our many parks and lake areas. Jack Frost doesn’t often come nipping, but on the rare occasion that he brings some white fluff, the contrast of dark, bare trees against crisp white snow with

crystal clear streams running, leaves you awestruck. Many area cabins and lodging have fireplaces to curl up by. Toss some hot chocolate mix in your bag and come on!

Finally…Spring. The Arbuckles begin to awaken and bloom. While things begin to “green-up”, you could take the opportunity to cure that last bit of cabin fever with a getaway. The landscape seems to change daily with trees leafing out, the Redbuds (our state tree) begin to blossom deep pink buds and cover the mountainside and wildflowers pop up everywhere. Activities, attractions and lodgings are easier to get in to. A springtime sabbatical is probably just the tonic you need to regroup and refocus.

As you can see, the Arbuckles can be your year-round playground. Come have some fun!

NEW!NEW!

Turner Falls Park, the oldest park in Oklahoma, has received national

publicity and has served as a classroom for the naturalist. Many springs

from the world famous Arbuckle Mountains form Honey Creek, which

cascades down a seventy-seven (77) foot fall to a natural swimming

pool, making the majestic Turner Falls the largest waterfall in Oklahoma.

The park is accented with beautiful picnic areas, natural trails, caves,

geological wonders and two natural swimming pools unique in nature.

The Turner Falls area has been described as one of the three geological

windows into our past. The Grand Canyon and the Black Hills of South

Dakota are the other two areas that hold this unique distinction.

As early as 1868, Turner Falls was known as a popular recreational area.

The City of Davis operates the park and you are welcome to enjoy the

720 acres of fun in the “Heart of the Arbuckle Mountain.”

When you visit the Turner Falls area, you are exploring the natural wonder

of Oklahoma. Some describe it as a diamond in the rough, while others

describe it as the “Gem of the Arbuckles.”

Camping is available for those who wish to experience a closeness to one

of God’s greatest gifts to nature.

Plans are never ending at Turner Falls, with the planning board working

to develop even more attractions.

Visit Turner Falls Park and experience the hospitality of Arbuckle Moutain

Area. The whole family will appreciate the clean and safe outdoor fun the

park has to offer.

Chickasaw National Recreation Area worth every quarter!Chickasaw National Recreation Area will be featured on a quarter-dollar produced by the U.S. Mint in 2011. It will be the tenth of 56 quar-ters issued in the recently announced America the Beautiful Quarters program. Approximately every ten weeks, starting in April of 2010, a new quarter depicting a national park or other federally preserved area will be released.

“The coin presents an excellent opportunity to shine light on the park as one of the oldest national park areas in the United States, and our role in protecting the region’s water resources, as well as providing a safe place for millions of Americans to relax and enjoy the natural environ-ment,” said Superintendent Bruce Noble.

Shelly Sawatzky, Executive Director of the Sulphur Chamber of Com-merce said, “We are proud of the selection of the Chickasaw National Recreation Area to represent Oklahoma, and welcome the opportunity for more Americans to discover this often over-looked gem which has drawn generations of families.”

Established in 1902 as the Sulphur Springs Reservation, the land for

the park was purchased from the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations to ensure free access to the freshwater and mineral springs located here; making it the first and only national park established at an Indian Tribe’s re-quest. In 1906, the reservation became the nation’s seventh national park, Platt National Park. For seventy years, Platt was the na-tion’s smallest National Park, yet drew visitors by the thousands. In 1976 Platt National Park was combined with the Arbuckle Recreation Area to create Chickasaw National Recreation Area. The name of the park honors the vision of the Chickasaw Nation in acting to preserve the resources found here.

Congress authorized the America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008 to celebrate the nation’s legacy of conservation.

For more information about the America the Beautiful Quarters Program, please visit http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/NSQuartersProgram/index.cfm.

Arbuckle Lake Cabins

Whatever its form, water has always been the

attraction at Chickasaw National Recreation Area. Freshwater springs attract a variety of wildlife. Mineral springs were once sought for

medicinal qualities. Travertine Creek and Rock Creek beckon

waders and swimmers. Veterans Lake calls to fishermen to test their

skills. Lake of the Arbuckles, the park’s dominant feature, provides excellent motor

boating, skiing, sailing, fishing, and swimming. The springs are formed when water passes through underground rock formations. The water is then forced upward through fissures in the rock layers. Some rock layers contain sulphur and bromine; water coming through these layers collects the minerals and becomes mineral water. Water passing through rock layers that do not contain these minerals remains fresh.

Archeologists believe that this area may have been inhabited for as

long as 7,000 years. The ancient people called this place “The Peaceful Valley of Rippling Waters.” They believed in the healing power of the strong-smelling mineral water. The Caddos, Comanches, Chickasaws and Choctaws came later for the refreshing liquid. In 1855, the lands became part of the Chickasaw Nation.

White pioneers gradually drifted into the Chickasaw Nation and built a community in the late 1800s. A town formed around what is now Pavilion Springs and was named Sulphur. Fearing the springs might suffer from uncontrolled use, the Chickasaw Nation agreed with the Federal Government to create a national park. In 1902, 640 acres were transferred to the United States and given the name of Sulphur Springs Reservation. In 1906, the area was renamed Platt National Park in honor of Senator Orville Hitchcock Platt. During the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps built pavilions and roads, laid out trails, engineered waterfalls, and planted half a million trees and shrubs. In 1976 Platt National Park was combined with Arbuckle Recreation Area and additional lands to create a new national recreation area in honor of the land’s longtime inhabitant: the Chickasaws.

ATV Fun for Everyone “You rent the fun; we do the work” is the motto at Thrills & Chills on Wheels ATV Rental. With the sport of ATVing gaining popularity, Thrills & Chills is opening up the opportunity to ride to everyone.

Thrills & Chills on Wheels ATV Rental provides vehicles for riding at Lake Murray State Park, south of Ardmore and at Cross Bar Ranch, west of Davis. Lake Murray State Park has 1,000 acres of free range trails to travel and is a great family riding area. There are all types of terrains here, including hills, wooded trails, open areas and some sand. Riding at Lake Murray is permitted only in the daytime and is open year-round. Camping is available. There is a park fee per rider. Lake Murray is the oldest and one of the largest State Parks and has a variety of activities.

Cross Bar Ranch is a 2,800 acre park with a very diverse terrain. Located in the Arbuckle Mountains, the area has cedar covered hills, hardwood slopes and valleys and crystal clear creeks and springs. Elevation changes range from gentle slopes to extreme drops of 500 feet or more. Camping is available and lodging can be found nearby. There is a day fee for the park and they are open year-round, only during daylight hours.

Renting from Thrills & Chills on Wheels takes all the work out of the sport and leaves you with all the fun. Helmets and fuel are provided and anyone ages 6 years old and up may ride. Their fleet consists of fully automatic Arctic Cat ATVs, so there is no shifting and no clutching for an easy ride. There is a security deposit required and they give a military discount. They don’t even charge you to clean up the mud when you return! You may rent this fun by the hour, by the day or by the weekend.

They do issue one warning about the sport: they cannot be responsible for a sudden addiction to ATVing. For more information or reservations, go to www.okatvrentals.com or call them at 580-222-6470 or 580-504-5714.

Diving into marriage, moving to another state and purchasing a business in a 48-hour period is a little more adventure than most people would want

to take on in a short span of time. For William and Autumn Claxton, it was courageous steps of faith.

William had a dream to own a restaurant, a fun place to dine where the hospitality was warm,

the greeting was genuine and the food would keep you coming back. He had a favorite place to eat in the

Arbuckles and told the owner to keep him in mind if she ever wanted to sell. Fate stepped in and he was transferred

to west Texas. But fate often sends unexpected gifts, if we keep our eyes open. Fate brought Autumn into the picture. After dating a while, Wil-liam brought her for a visit to the Arbuckles. A trip that she thought would be just a weekend journey, turned out to be an excursion into a new life.

Autumn tells of first coming to the area, riding through the mountains and taking in the scenery. It was quite different than west Texas. She knew right away this was a place she could be happy. Within weeks, William and Autum were married, quit their jobs and became owners of an established burger place. The grill was formerly known as Old Station Onion Burgers and was a regular food stop for locals and visitors.

They rolled up their sleeves and went to work, creating a new life and flip-ping burgers. They renamed the place Minner Hut – Burgers and Bait and

set about making it their own. Located almost at water’s edge of Arbuckle Lake, many travelers regularly put a stop at the Minner Hut on their agenda. They know they will always get a hot, fresh onion burger, known as “the regular”, or the no-onion version, “the unleaded”. They also know that small-town friendliness is served up in heaping portions.

The onion burger is the most in-demand item but they offer hot dogs, Frito-chili pie, and BBQ prepared over a wood smoker that William built. M-m-m-m-m, just the smell will you draw you off the lake. Brisket and hot links are available daily; ribs usually need to be ordered in advance. Want something a little different? Have them put together a smoked bologna sandwich for you. There are different homemade desserts every day, so don’t leave until you properly finish your meal!

If you are on the lake and hunger pains are striking, call and they will cook up some lunch or dinner and meet you at the Guy Sandy Boat Dock to deliver. This great service is only available in the summer and is a real plus for the boaters to the Arbuckles.

Oh yea, for the fish portion of our Love and Fishes story, the Minner Hut has live and frozen bait to sell. They keep bait year-round for the fisherman. So, whether you need burgers or bait the Minner Hut will fix you up. Stop in to eat or order your lake delivery ahead of time at the grill located on Chickasaw Trail, 3 miles south of Hwy 7 between Sulphur and Davis. (also ½ mile north of the Guy Sandy Boat Ramp) For further information, call 580-622-3386.

Fireside Dining, south of Ardmore, near Lake Murray, has been known for fine food since

1976. After a day on the lake or sight-seeing and shopping, Fireside offers a

quiet respite with delectable dishes to feed spirit and tummy.

For many, Fireside is THE place to celebrate a special occasion. Mark-ing your big day, whatever it is, is a tradition for couples and fami-

lies. But, it doesn’t have to be your birthday to pull up to a tender slice of

prime rib at this establishment, although any excuse is a good excuse. Fireside’s

A special night at Fireside

The Fun Times Magazine celebrates its 25th birthday in 2010. Each year has seen progression and change in moving forward to serve the businesses of south central Oklahoma, and it has been a fun journey.

The old saying goes that “necessity is the mother of invention” and that was never truer than with the birth of the Fun Times. In 1985, I owned a bed and breakfast and needed an effective, but cost-efficient, method to market the business. During this time, I picked up a tabloid paper in Eu-reka Springs, AR and a vision was hatched. Surely there were other area businesses that had the same need. Perhaps we could pool our money and achieve a common goal. By spring of that year, tourism related es-tablishments had joined me and a publishing project was underway. The “sales office” was the top of my washing machine and “sales calls” were made between serving breakfast and cleaning rooms! The first edition of the Fun Times was a tabloid size newspaper with one color, 12 pages and a print order of 10,000 copies. The Fun Times is now a full color, all gloss magazine, with as many as 100,000 copies printed in a year.

25 Years of Fun!

cannot go wrong. Steaks and seafood are always excellent choices but stay open to the possibility of the days special. Fresh ingredients with a creative twist make for wonderful dinner selections on the daily offerings.

In addition to the main course, a heaping bowl of fresh mixed greens, salad veggies topped with sunflower seeds, served with your choice of homemade dressings and croutons made in-house are sure to please. A full bar is also available. Special occasion or not, use any excuse to try one of their desserts. The huge brownie, ice cream and chocolate sauce masterpiece is a chocolate lovers dream.

Enjoy a quiet evening at Fireside Dining, where generous meals are served up by warm and welcoming people. They are located on Scenic Hwy. 77, ½ mile west of Lake Murray Lodge or 2 miles east of I-35 at exit 24. Open for dinner Tues – Sat at 5:00pm. For more information, call them at 580-226-4070.

anniversary

celeb

rating 25 years of publishingTo coin another phrase,

“ignorance is bliss” and sometimes is it better to not know what you don’t know. I had no journalism training or a clue as to what I had stepped into. I did know that I en-joyed visiting with the businesses in the area and working to pro-mote them as well as this beautiful area known as the Arbuckles. I loved meeting visitors to the area and potential visitors needing information to plan a vacation. I learned along the way about printing, graphics and layout, about story writing and editing, about circulation and distribution. More fulfilling than all of that, I got to know better my advertisers and the dreams they had for their businesses. I experienced the excitement of start-up entrepreneurs and that helped recharge those that would become discouraged. I have been able to network advertisers together. These factors of the Fun Times are the most enjoyable and being a small part of helping businesses grow is a tremendous satisfaction.

I am very appreciative of the enterprises that came on board with me when this was just a vision. Many of those are still with me 25 years later. Each year I meet new advertisers, as well as catch up with friends that continue to market their business through the Fun Times. These long-standing partnerships are a blessing to me and I value and am honored by the trust they place in me. The mission that was the seed that started it all is still the driving force… to promote the area and the businesses in the Arbuckles and to welcome and inform our guests about this beautiful piece of God’s earth that we inhabit.

Many thanks to family, friends, the advertisers and our readership for riding along with me for these 25 years. It has taken a village to raise this child and could not have been done without the contributions of so many. Fun Times Magazine is looking forward to many more years of moving tourism forward in the Arbuckles.

Oklahoma’s First PlaygroundLake Murray Resort Park is Oklahoma’s first state park. It is named after one of Oklahoma’s early governors, William H. “Alfalfa Bill” Murray. The park is home to Tucker Tower, a nature center and museum.

The land for Lake Murray Resort Park was acquired in 1933. Lake Murray Dam was completed in 1937 with Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Projects Administration labor. You can still see the original CCC stone structures scattered around the park.

In 1949, Oklahoma’s first state lodge was built at Lake Murray State Park. Today, Lake Murray Lodge is still a relaxing and comfortable getaway for the entire family. With 52 rooms and deluxe suites, the lodge offers a country inn atmosphere.

Eighty cottages are within walking distance of the lodge. Most have kitchenettes, fireplaces and color televisions, and sleep two to eight people. Three larger Heritage cottages sleep six, ten or twelve people.

Lake Murray Resort Park is Oklahoma’s largest state park. with 12,496 lush, wooded acres. Lake Murray itself is 5,728 surface acres with 150 miles of state-owned shoreline. The lake offers a beautiful setting for a variety of activities.

Lake Murray Resort Park is a camper’s paradise with 468 RV and tent sites. The park also features three group camps, each with a community center with cooking facilities.

Finding fun things to do at Lake Murray Resort Park is easy. Finding time to do everything might be a problem. Tucker Tower Nature Center and

Museum is on the lake’s southwest side and has great natural displays of discoveries from the area.

Several swimming areas are marked at the Lake and a public swimming pool is located

near the lodge. The lake’s beautiful water is popular among scuba divers from both near and far.

For maximum golf, Lake Murray’s beautiful and challenging 18-hole golf

course features a full-line pro shop, driving range and putting green.

Lake Murray Resort Park is conveniently located off I-35 at exits 24 or 29. For information on Lake

Murray’s many activities, call the park office at (580) 223-4044. Visit us on the web at www.oklahomaparks.com.

The Arbuckle Area of Oklahoma is home to a multitude of winners

of the Oklahoma Redbud Award. The Redbud Award represents the

highest honor given in the Oklahoma Tourism Industry. They highlight the

accomplishments of industry leaders in marketing to and serving visitors

to our state. Awards are given in 13 different categories and, in 5 of those

categories, applicants from the Arbuckles were cited.

Outstanding Agritourism Attraction Award went to Buckhorn Lodge.

Located south of Sulphur, this 1,700 acre ranch offers a lodge for

vacation rental, guided hunting trips and horseback riding. The ranch is

set on a beautiful native grass prairie that looks out over the Arbuckle

Mountains, south of Lake of the Arbuckles. Outstanding Tourism Attrac-

tion Merit Award went to the Chickasaw National Recreational Area.

This facility is Oklahoma’s oldest National Park, formerly known as Platt

National Park. Beautiful in any season, the Park is host to over a million

visitors a year.

You can’t lose with a visit to the Arbuckles!

Best Partnership Merit Award went to the Sulphur Chamber of Com-

merce and Chickasaw National Recreation Area. These 2 entities

became partners in providing information and services to visitors when

the Sulphur Chamber extended a hand, and some square footage, to the

Park to house their Visitors Center. Best Website Merit Award went to

Premier Lake Property for their informative, colorful, user-friendly site

that not only markets their business but provides support and easy ac-

cess to area information. The Best Social Media Campaign Merit Award

went to Ardmore Convention & Visitors Bureau for their efforts in this

new field.

Congratulations to all of these winners from Fun Times Publishing

and the visitors that enjoy your services.

See more, Do more, Live more... On the sunny side of the Arbuckle Mountains, lies Ardmore, Oklahoma. Over a century old, Ardmore is located halfway between the Oklahoma City and Dallas/Fortworth. Established in 1887 with the arrival of the Santa Fe railroad, it took its name from Ardmore, Pennsylvania. Soon it became the largest town in the Chickasaw Nation, and is now the largest city in the south central portion of Oklahoma.

An abundance of outdoor activities are available, including hiking, biking, swimming, boating, fishing, camping, picnics and more. That is just the beginning of the fun visitors can have while visiting Ardmore. Stroll the downtown area with its brick sidewalks, period street lamps, benches and landscaping for some leisurely shopping. The downtown area, the Carter

County Court House and other structures are on the National Register of Historic Places. City parks, golf

courses and lakes provide something for everyone.

On the cultural side, Ardmore has an array of visual and performing arts. During your visit to this city, you may take in a theatrical, dance or chorale performance. Or, enjoy a collection of Western and

Contemporary art at a local gallery.

History is a very big part of Ardmore. Learn more about

southern Oklahoma’s past at the Greater Southwest Historical Museum. With displays of life from turn-of-the-20th century Ardmore, the museum is a wonderful learning experience. The Tucker Tower on Lake Murray houses natural exhibits of local flora and fauna.

Surrounded by the beauty and abundance the Arbuckle Mountain area has to offer, Ardmore shines like a star. Stop in and experience this city’s Southern Hospitality and friendliness... you’ll be glad you came.

A rbuckle Wilderness has opened their new Geological Area to park visitors. Oklahoma’s Premier Exotic Animal Theme Park now includes over 2 miles of ancient history and signage about the Arbuckle Mountains, one of the oldest and most visually

unique mountain regions in the world.

The Arbuckle Mountains are the defining geographical entity in the region. Their peaks, once taller than the Rockies, have now eroded down to their current elevation of 200-300 feet above the surrounding terrain. It is generally believed that, mil-lions of years ago, the Arbuckles were as tall as the Himalayas. They are thought to be among the oldest mountain ranges on the earth. The information preserved here not only tells the story of the Arbuckles existence, but of the development of the entire earth.

With the help of renowned Geologist Bob Allen, Arbuckle Wilderness has opened to view, teach and preserve this one-of-a-kind exhibit. “You have, on your property, one of the most incredible windows of the past showing almost all the formations and

outcroppings of the Arbuckle Mountains.” Allen said after his first visit.

Undergoing dramatic topographical changes over millions of years, the Arbuckles were there when life began. They watched the dinosaurs come and go. Already ancient when the Great Rocky Mountains were being formed, they are now worn down to their root-exposing formations for scientists and geologist to uncover the secrets hidden within.

It is a combination of age and chain of events that occurred in the region over millions of years that make the Arbuckle Mountains visibly remarkable, abundant in mineral resources and a rare setting for world class geological study. Many of the remains and imprints of plant and animal life found in the Arbuckles are paleontologically significant in understating the history of life on Earth.

Rock formations originally deposited horizontally are now faulted, twisted, thrust and inverted. Rising up at unusual angles, these outcroppings repre-sent an excellent demonstration of the powerful forces of nature.

Whether your interest lies in ancient rock and exploration, exotic animals, serene beauty or fun-filled outdoor activities, there is something for every-one at Arbuckle Wilderness. For more information, call 580-369-3383 or visit www.arbucklewilderness.com.

Dining at Café Alley in Ardmore is pure delight to the senses. Your tongue and taste buds will do a happy dance, the aroma of fresh foods, herbs and spices waft past and your eyes take in the unique charm of this warehouse-turned-restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy and casual and encourages you to relax and enjoy this overall sensory experience. Perhaps those best able to describe a Café Alley experience, are their loyal, repeat customers….if they will put their fork down long enough to talk! Once a meal is served, savoring it is their focus. A few diners did share with us some of what they love.

“The pork shops are to die for. Mustard-crusted and grilled to perfection with apple and onion on top”

“Hands-down, it’s the chicken-fried steak. Unlike any place else, this has a great jalapeno gravy.”

“Everything I have tried is awesome but I really love that it is peaceful, relaxed and the wait staff totally takes care of me. When I need to take a break from my hectic, hurry-up schedule, I come in for lunch.” “I love the salmon just about anyway. I usually try the special of the day. Jasyn is very innovative in his special creations; always a wonderful

surprise. The one insider tip I would pass along is ‘don’t leave unless you have had the Chocolate Roll’. You will really miss out.”

It seems that the Chocolate Roll has a stand-alone reputation. Café Alley patrons say it is a must. This dream on a plate consists of a hand-made chocolate pastry topped with chocolate pudding. Throw the calorie counter out the window. If you need to ease your consensus, share it with a friend.

Café Alley is known for always using the finest and freshest ingredients. Soups, dressings, sauces and stocks are all made from scratch. Beef dishes are USDA Choice Aged Certified Angus. Salads look and taste like the garden is outside the door. At lunch, the atmosphere is light and casual and, in the evening, you will enjoy an intimate, cozy setting. The service is outstanding. Customers at the Alley will tell you that, in every aspect, it is the great attention to detail that you will notice.

Owners Jasyn and Samantha Norton invite you to come, dine and be delighted at Café Alley. They are located in the Historic east end of downtown Ardmore, on A St. just north of Main (126 A St. N.E.). They are open for lunch Tues-Fri from 11-2 and for dinner Tues-Sat from 5-9. You may contact Café Alley at 580-223-6413 or on the web at www.cafealleyardmore.com.
