Who We AreOhio Valley Voices teaches children with hearing loss to listen and talk. Our outcomes rate us as one of the best programs in the country and families are drawn to us because of our excellent results. Ohio Valley Voices serves children and their families from birth to eight years old, and children can enter our program as soon as they are diagnosed with hearing loss; even as young as four weeks old.

Our program is designed to create a comfortable, loving environment that fosters confidence and a life-long love of learning. Our children are given the tools not only to talk, but to positively impact their future.

Our dedicated and talented staff includes speech language pathologists, educators, audiologists and early interventionist specialists. We are fortunate to have an excellent team of specialists working together to provide a program that allows children with hearing loss to excel.

Our Philosophy - Our MissionOur mission is to teach deaf children to listen and talk. Ohio Valley Voices believes all children succeed when they are given the proper tools, and we provide those tools in an environment where children with hearing loss learn to listen, talk and succeed.

History Ohio Valley Voices was formed in 1999 by three families that had young children with cochlear implants. With the funds raised by these families and the generosity of the Oberkotter Foundation, Ohio Valley Voices opened its doors in the summer of 2000. Since that time, over one hundred children have graduated from Ohio Valley Voices. In 2006 Ohio Valley Voices moved from our leased facility in Montgomery, Ohio and purchased our current facility in Loveland, Ohio.

We are proud of what we have accomplished and continue to strive to be among the best programs in the country to teach young children with hearing loss to listen and talk.

Program DescriptionOhio Valley Voices operates five programs: an audiology program, a birth to three program (Family Center), a preschool program (Discovery Center), a kindergarten to second grade program (Learning Center) and an outreach program.

AudiologyOhio Valley Voices operates a full-service audiology clinic. Teaching deaf children to listen and talk starts with the proper access to sound. Our audiologists work full time trouble-shooting, fitting, and mapping the children’s listening devices. Each child receives an annual audiological evaluation to access how well the child is improving in his/her listening skills.

Family CenterThe Family Center serves children birth to age three and their families. The Family Center supports families as they begin their journey of learning how their deaf child will listen and talk. The Family Center provides one-on-one sessions with families and their infants, and a center-based program for our toddler children. We are proud of the commitment we make to our young families and look forward to seeing their children progress in listening and talking.

Discovery Center The Discover Center serves children with hearing loss ages three to five years old. The Discovery Center children attend Ohio Valley Voices five full-days per week. The class sizes are small, with a 2:1 student-to-teacher ratio. The children receive individualized instruction on how to speak, and spend time in a language-rich preschool classroom which focuses on increasing oral language and preschool skills.

Learning Center The Learning Center serves children from five to eight years old. Our goal is to prepare children to successfully mainstream into their community schools. Our children receive a standard school curriculum and continue to focus on closing the language gap they have with their hearing peers. Literacy development is an important focus in the Learning Center.

Outreach ProgramOhio Valley Voices provides support and instruction to the educational professionals who work with our alumni students. We provide direct service to our alumni who have integrated back into the public or private school system.

Message from the Board of Trustees of Ohio Valley VoicesOhio Valley Voices had another exciting and successful year. The best measure of our success is the progress of our graduates. Over the past year, eight students graduated from our program and are continuing their education in mainstream schools. Ohio Valley Voices has now been in existence for more than twelve years and the earliest graduates are now in high school and continue to achieve great results. We have over one hundred children that have graduated from Ohio Valley Voices programs.

The Board of Trustees is made up of a diverse group of individuals with a variety of professions. We all have one thing in common: we are dedicated to our mission - teaching deaf children to listen and talk. We are excited about what the future will hold for each of the children.

I continue to be inspired by the children at Ohio Valley Voices and their families. These children and their families have beaten the odds. As I walk down the halls of Ohio Valley Voices and listen to the chattering of young, deaf children talking, I am constantly reminded that nothing is impossible. The children of Ohio Valley Voices are my heroes; they rise to the challenge that their hearing loss brings with a grace and wisdom beyond their years. I look forward to watching each of them grow and succeed in the future.

As we look to our future, we realize the urgency for us to “get the word out” to more families with young deaf children. We are proud to announce that the 2011-2012 year begins with higher enrollment in the Family Center than ever before. We look forward to continued growth in this area.
