On the heels of two multi-platinum albums, Brooke Fraser is starting anew with her latest effort, “Flags”. The title was inspired by her writing trips into the more remote parts of the U.S. Brooke states, “our lives are like flags...we fly our colors—our history, belief system, culture, identity—but eventually our flag will wear out and return to the ground...” The earthy, self-produced album reflects this newfound perspective and the events that helped shape it. The first single, entitled “Something In The Water,” is an upbeat, summery romp. The song, “Betty” (co-written by Switchfoot’s Jon Foreman) is about a cool, unapproachable girl who hides her birthmark—a thinly veiled metaphor for the things she is afraid to show people. Other standouts include “Flags,” “Who Are We Fooling (featuring Aqualung),” “Coachella” and “Crows and Locusts”. Brooke speaks through the voices of different characters to tell timeless truths.

And in an age where hardcore has reached almost laughable proportions of oversaturation and repetition, finally a band has come along which has not only pushed the envelope, but completely shredded it. On Healing In Surrender, the debut release from At The Onset, we find a band which has captured authentic-scene metalcore sounds alongside soaring pop/rock hooks. An ambitious undertaking? BIOGRAPHY : “Blood World” is Mortification’s fourth studio album originally released in 1994. The album’s feel hovers in the thrash metal genre.
